  1. A test drive will be more useful than anecdotes. The CVT gearbox makes the engine sound noisy under hard acceleration but the power is there. You really need to test drive one to see how you find it. The ride is firm compared to my prwevious RX. Not unduly harsh but it depends what you are comparing it with. Let us know how you get on after a test drive.
  2. Interesting anecdote from a friend. Mazda 3 - 15 years old - no issues but serviced at Mazda every year. 237,000 miles.!
  3. I think some of you missed the cost - £190 not £99. I believe that was just for the foamy cleaner treatment! No mention of a top up. The "work" I turned down came to £357.90 Just Air conditioning ant-bacterial cleanse was £185.02 Offside Front tyre 3mm thread - £171.08 Wiper blades had to be done to pass the MOT. Opinion: If I traded in my car and they put it on the forecourt, do you think they would do the aircon before selling?
  4. Resurrecting this thread, just put the NX in for its "free" MOT. Bacteria found in the AC. They want £190. wipers were also mentioned. I have declined the AC service for now. Will consider it at the next service - though my gut feeling was that it was a revenue maker. I only went in for an MOT! They gave me a health check sheet showing what I had declined to have done!
  5. When someone writes an advert and it is blatantly clear they are exaggerating then the rest of the wording becomes suspicious. Whenever I read a dealer or private advert that says "Fully loaded" I just cringe.
  6. The moral of this story is:- Fit the roof boot a week before you leave - NOT ON THE DAY!
  7. I could not agree more Adam! They are lovely cars to drive. We are inclined to forget that it is a 2.5 litre engine. 37 mpg is more normal for me.
  8. Tried some economy driving just to see what I could get out of my NX. Not totally accurate, as based on computer, but gave me an indication. 50mph - gentle acceleration (staying in the BLUE zone) - Aircon switched off. 20 mile journey - 57.6 mpg Interesting but boring!
  9. My 400h never used any oil. What mileage has it done?
  10. No worries all warning lights now gone! Be patient! Is the key! They repair themselves!
  11. Power steering failed on my daughter's RX300. Turned out to be a pipe - all fixed. 12v Battery dead after holiday. Managed to "fix" windows not working but warning lights on dash - Have charged battery all OK - can someone please tell me the procedure for getting rid of them? I have searched the forum but not found anything? Thank you.
  12. DUMB! DUMB! I have now figured out what I was doing wrong! The lock was in the wrong position! The lock must be horizontal then the key turned clockwise to lock! A whole hour putting on and taking off the roof bars! Relief!
  13. Is there a set way of being able to lock the roof bars onto the roof rails. I have located them in the holes and tightened until they click. But I can NOT for the life of me get the covers to lock. I must be missing something as I can't lock any of the four! Thanks!
  14. I met Pearl when I was in hospital - very nice lady though a tad eccentric. She told me a lovely story about travelling up from Kent to Huddersfield for rehearsals. She had a Merc sports job and tended to drive rather fast. She was stopped by a police traffic officer. The conversation went:- Policeman: "You have been going rather fast Madam. I have been following you for 8 miles. Do you not look in your mirror?" Pearl: "Officer, when I am travelling at that speed I keep my eyes on the road!" Sadly Pearl was still done for speeding! I am not sure now but I think her real name was Julia. Sadly she passed away a while ago. She also starred in Coronation Street - I never watch that though.
  15. Watched a YouTube clip where some 85 plus retired people said that they wished they had spent more money when they first retired. It is not wise to live for just today but don't hang on too long either - you may not be fit enough to enjoy it!
  16. Google Translate Hello everyone, On my 2008 Lexus rx400h I have a cracking/rattling noise when accelerating and braking. This noise goes away if I put the gearbox in N and brake. I think the engine mounts are not to blame because: - if I shift into N and brake, there is no noise - I tested the play of the front left engine mount (with a tire iron) it moves with force but without noise, I'm a little lost I admit, - the cardan shaft has no play when I tighten it on the power strip and want to rotate it back and forth (rotation) with the wheel on the ground (maybe I don't have enough by force), - The noise fades/reduces a lot if I steer well to the right before accelerating/braking. I am attaching a video where you can clearly hear the noise. Thanks in advance...
  17. LS 400, second would be the LS 430. The RX 300 and RX 400h models are a more comfortable ride than the NX 300h - in my opinion.
  18. Brilliant! I know who to ask in future!
  19. Thank you for those kind words. You just know when it is time to change direction. I will advertise on the club site first.
  20. Have decided to swap my LS400 for an electric vehicle. I have had 9 years with Rio but it is time to part with her. I do appreciate I will never be able to go back but my mind is made up. Circumstances / needs change. The electric car will be a family car that my daughter and son- in-law can use when needed. I am too embarrassed to tell you what EV I have purchased! I was hoping to hide the LS but my garden is too small and the garage too cluttered. It will be a sad day but three cars are Two too many. I know Malc will disagree.
  21. Very strange that this has not be recognised.
