  1. Yeah, new mirror fitted eventually(see topic ' First Impressions')

apparantly the problem was the mirror stalk was too long causing the vibrations.

    No problems since.

Good to hear that your mirror has stopped vibrating. Can you please posts some pictures of the new stalk. I have the same problem, I have had 4 new mirrors but it is still next to useless and lexus GB don’t seem to be much help either. I would go to Glasgow but I live in London.

  2. Have an 2006 IS 220 SE with 35000 miles on clock. Last week the car started missing when in 5th gear and then lost all power in other gears until the turbo kicked in. Took it to Lexus Teesside and they said it needed a de coke. They have had the car for nearly a week now. Stripped engine and replacing valves. The manufacturers warranty runs out today. Very worried how this car is going to perform after this.

We have expereiced the usual complaints - turbo lag in 2nd gear, 6th gear unobtainable until 80 mph, nosiy engine, excessive use of oil and only returning 35 mpg even on motorway runs.

After we were told that the engine needed a de coke, we did some research and found that this shoudn't need to be done on new cars, especially on low mileage cars. We have returned the car several times to Lexus due to the above problems but they say that the computer can't find anything wrong. We sent a letter to head office in May last year stating how unhappy we were with the car and its performance. Basically we were told to keep taking the car back for regular download updates. However, after this recent episode of the engine, we once again wrote to head office explaining our concerns that the warranty soon expires and the engine obviously has a major problem. We heard nothing so we rang them. What a mistake. We spoke with head of customer relations, a lady called Sam.

Firstly, when I mentioned the de coke, her reply was that she was not technical so could not comment!

Secondly, when I mentioned that 6th gear is unobtainable unless doing excessive speed - her reply "This is a european car, and 6th gear was installed for use on the autobahns.

She kept referring to buying a car is like buying a washing machine or a fridge, they are also supplied with warranties in case things go wrong.

There is no chance of them offering an extended warranty as a gesture of goodwill, we, like any other Lexus customer can purchase an extended warranty.

We explained that a member of the family has worked with diesel engines for over 40 years, and engine de cokes are a thing of the past - her reply "We should question that man's ability - as anything mechanical or electrical can go wrong".

Overall, she was rude and abrasive.

This is the first diesel car we have ever had and it will be the last. Even a Lexus employee has said that the first Lexus diesel engine was rushed and has its problems - he personally wouldn't touch one!

Anybody else experienced this engine problem or had bad experiece with Cusotmer Relations.

    Ted

I have had a similar experience with lexus customer services. I have called them numerous times, mainly about the vibrating mirror and bootlid rubbing on the bumper, and their response has always been "this is the FIRST time we have ever heard of this problem and this not a common fault and there is nothing more they can do". I have even printed out posts from here and shown it to my local dealer and they still will not admit there are problems with my car. I have no idea how lexus tops the customer satisfaction surveys. All I can say is this is my first lexus and will definitely be the last.

  3. Can people please tell me which dealers they use, because I went to my local dealer (croydon) who want to charge me to respray the damage caused by the bootlid scratching the bumper :tsktsk: . I have had my 07 car from new, and they said it is not covered under warranty. Thanks.
it may be worth speaking to the dealer again and asking for written confirmation from lex gb as to the warranty position .as you will have read,my dealer quoted five years.

I spoke to various people at the dealer and at their bodyshop, and they all said mine is the first car they had seen with this problem, which I find unbelievable. I then phoned Lexus GB and got the same response. They had never heard of this problem before, and the warranty had definitely not been extended to five years. I will phone again and ask for written confirmation. It would be helpful if you could tell me which dealer you used, so at least I can get my car fixed. Thanks

  4. as far as i am aware the recall was for all 220's,ask the dealer to confirm in writing and check with lexus gb before you purchase.

As I say, I did call Lexus GB, and gave the vehicle identification number, they said the one I'm considering wasn't recalled (sport model) despite being Jul 2006?

I have an 07 plate 220 sport and i had a recall letter a couple of weeks ago, just had it done and still only getting about 26-27mpg. Double check with lexus gb and try and get them to say it in writing

  5. Ok Car was returned and the Jury's verdict below

Mirror sorted even 50 Cent on full couldn't get a shake out of it, so well done on that one.

Handbrake adjusted and seems easier to apply, but why point out that my car was outwith the VIN number that needed a MOD, is that supposed to make me feel better..??? Oh I get it.... YOU did ME, a favour!!!

Cant add on the auto locking that the current model has even although mine is only 4 months old.

Yes Sir we are well aware of the iratic idling but until Lexus can come up with an answer we can't sort it, this was explained to you this morning..... even the service manager has the same problem....

And for the finally the EGR valve needs a new Gasket, would you like to book it in between Christmas & New Year, but you can't get a courtesy car!!!...

Oh and one last thing can we take £11.50 towards insurance for the courtesy car you had and did you replace the fuel you used????

Quality Customer Service.. I think not....

I see that you hav had your mirror sorted out so that it dont shake. Can you please tell me where you had that work done becuase my car has been into lexus 4 times to try and sort it out and it still has a mind of its own. They told me that my music had too much base. Also do you hav the upgraded sound system???

I drive in town all the time and have never got more than 30mpg in my IS220d sport. My car is 6 months old and has done 4500miles
