  1. I'd guess at - exhaust gas recirculation valve.

That's exactly right & that's what happened with mine, when it's in get them to check the manifold as well as that the dealer couldn't replicate the problem that I had & the next time that it broke down, they looked in there & it was full of soot which had built up as it couldn't go anywhere...

  2. Thanks for the input mate much appreciated the car was towed away today by rac he told me that as i'd had the fith injector replaced that was the most lightly cause of the problem lexus phoned me a few hours later to say they could not find white smoke or any problems with the car??????????????
I JUST REALISED U HAVE A DIESEL, EVEN MORE LIKELY THE INJECTOR.... White smoke occurs mainly during cold starts, when the fuel tends to condense into liquid and does not burn due to cold engine parts. The most common reason for white smoke are in-operative glow plugs low engine compression, a bad injector spray pattern, late injection timing or injection pump problems.

I would insist on them checking the car again & even having it to test for a couple of days.

I noticed a similar problem especially after sitting with the engine idling (normally in congestion) & then accelerating, I reported it & was told that if the smoke was white then it was fine & probably only condensation. A week later it was being recovered because the manifold was full of soot. Coincidence? Maybe but better safe than sorry....

  3. ...One more week in the service centre.

...One more ECU upgrade, 5th injector change, fuel cap replacement, rear view mirror change, rattle removing, hand brake fixing...

Aah - forgot to say. Two complimentary bottles of wine from the Lexus.

Ok. Things are much better now. Sound like a fantastic - but for now I'm easily got 30mpg in a city, and able to drove at 3rd gear / 20mph - engine works much, much better now.

But - for how long? I've done that for the 3rd time... It looks like that it is a really good idea to replace 5th injector, reflash ECU and so on every 5000 miles. Ridiculous, but true.

Frankly speaking - it's a pity that it is impossible to join forces and to make some class action against Lexus - diesel model is more than worse, even official Lexus technicians are agree (but they don't like to sign anything, for sure :) ). I'm trying to fix the dashboard rattle for the sixth time already. I'm angry...

p.s. i've tried to test new Subaru Diesel engine... It's near from perfect. So much better than Lexus one... Really. But there are no any fancy toys either in Outback nor Legacy, and look && feel is much cheaper than Lexus - for the same price.

Don't build your hopes up - mine's had to be recovered 6 times now - I can't wait to get rid of it, the dealer has tried everything to help sort out exactly the same problems but i've lost count of the number of 5th injectors & ECU upgrades...

Not a word from Lexus HQ though....

  4. yes,i had my recall letter about four weeks ago,it goes in for that and 40k service on july 17th.

I had my recall letter 4 weeks ago & the 5th injector was replaced again (for the 4th time) but it didn't stop my breaking down again last week. 70,000 miles & 6 breakdowns isn't what I expected from a Lexus - not to mention 32mpg...

  5. 5 Months in 4000 miles

    Mirror Replaced.

Awaiting EGR valve gasket to be replaced.

Loud crack like stone hitting windscreen coming from dash when it heats up.... just going to leave it as I expect it would lead to more rattles if Lexus tried to fix it....

Paint Chips on Boot (will get garage to check it out when in for EGR valve)

    Fuel Consumption not as expected

Do like the style, comfort, sound system.... I would buy another but to be honest it would be a Petrol. Although the new A4 might be tempting

    Same here,

My 220d has been backwards & forwards to the dealers SOOO many times (mainly on the back of a breakdown truck) - 6 recoveries, 3 recalls & numerous problems that i've reported. I can't wait to get rid of it but i'd have a petrol one tomorrow...

  6. it's a big flasing yellow light on top of a orange van that parks in front after you don't maintain the oil

    B I N G O - Thanks to Peco84

Just keep the odometer button pressed in & press start without depressing the clutch pedal. The odometer will then show a series of dashes & start counting down, when the dashes disappear it's reset...

Thats it while the ignition is in ACC mode without engine Running ( As mentioned in the owners manual)

    Handy Toilet reading info :winky:

    Regards

    Matt

By the way why do you need an Oil check gauge on the Diesel As this is the first diesel i have owned

    why is it there ???

  7. You shouldn't have any problems Exiled, my IS 220d has broken down in the South East, the South West & the Midlands (twice) & each time the dealers have been very helpful although obviously the inconvenience is a pain. It's the car that's the problem, not the dealers.

Thank goodness that Lexus dealers have a good reputation on the whole, let's hope that Lexus manage to get to the bottom of all of the problems before all the drivers lose their patience & start to vote with their feet....
