  1. Chris. I changed my front tyres to the 270 when I bought it and one was worn out after 4000miles... anyway tracking was out and after a four wheel laser alignment and a new tyre all was well.... for a while... now both front tyres are starting to wear on the very outer edge, I guess its because the car is so heavy it scrubs a bit... The rear tyres on mine are Federal 595's that were about 1/4 worn when I got the car, they are now down to 1.6mm after about 12000miles they have worn evenly and need changing so I'm in the same boat as you... I think the rear ones may wear quick because the traction lets them slip a little before it cuts in, not enough to hear them spin though. Just try driving it with the VSC off and see how easy it is to spin them... they have to be travelling at a different speed to the front for the VSC to work so I guess they are getting a little spin every time you take off. I'm in two minds about the tyres, the cheap Maxxis that were on the front when I got it were so noisey it was untrue... but I'm loathed to spend too much when they will only last a short while... So who knows of a cheap quiet tyre????? Pete

    Hello

Paul Try asking this question in the Gs section here http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...hp?showforum=51 I think you will get more of a responce. Can't help with the questions I'm afraid. Good luck and welcome Pete
  3. Yeah its a nightmare this I don't think a 5% tint means it lets in 95% light..... I had my last car done and the local guy who did it had had a visit fron the boys in blue who had this "official" piece of tinted perspex that was the same as his 5% tint.... I suppose diferent makers have different names for it.... Anyway I love your car and wish I didn't need four seats or I'd have one..... only a few years to go and the kids WILL have left home and then I'll get one. Oh and I like the original wheels as well.... Have fun Pete
  4. Hi Don't want to sound negative but you will have to be very carefull as you are only allowed a 5% tint on front door windows and that tint you have is much more. A lot of factory tinted windows are very close to 5%. The police around here carry a piece of perspex with a 5% tint and if your windows are darker you get done.... So be very careful... Pete
  5. Lexus2D it was good of you to organise this... it was nice to see you in 3D!!! And the rest of you as well... We must remember some chalk and a tape measure to line the cars up next time LOL Pete
  6. Hi A few years ago they were talking about changing the UK to LHD and driving on the right, they were going to do a trial where all the HGV's would drive on the right first to see if it worked Pete
  7. Sorry didn't see those two.... turning to auto will not make it colder, turning to recirculate will make it cooler as it is cooling the already cooled air in the car. If they can't get it any colder then I would go to a proper air con specialist and get them to check your system, could be a poorly pump or an air temp sensor, or lots of other things, they are quite complicated. Pete
  8. Alan Well thats a bit weird then, aircon systems don't usually lose every bit of gas, if they vacuum tested it then hopefully you don't have a leak, have you had it switched off all winter, this is not a good idea as the oil falls to the bottom of everything and the rubber seals harden and start to leak, always a good idea to use it at least once a week to keep it going. The condenser has nothing to do with the engine coolant it is a totally different radiator and cools the gas in the aircon system. Can't explain why your coolant leak has gone, maybe your mechanic saw a lose hose or something. As mentioned earlier if it does leak get them to add some die to the system and you will be able to find the leak easier, most aircon places also have a gas leak detector which will "sniff" out a leak... Hope you keep cool Pete
  9. Alan Seven degrees is not very cold, three to four is about right when it has been on for a while and is down to temp. Did Quickfit do a vacuum test on your system, to do the job properly they should put the machine into "suck" mode and draw out all the remaining gas and then leave the system in a vacuumed state for 15-20 mins to draw out any condensation in the system, it should then be recharged with the correct amount. 0.7 kg seems about right. If there was absolutely none in the system to start with then Quickfit should have definitely done the vacuum check which will show leaks, as there is little chance that natural degassing would lead to all of the gas being lost. I fear that you will lose the gas over a short period of time and there will be a leak in the system. Do you know if they added any die to help trace a leak? I think that these quickfit type places are too happy to just refill aircon and not do the job properly and tell you it has a leak because then you won't pay for a fill up and they lose money. I would go back in a couple of days and ask them to test the pressure again to see if you are losing gas, if you are then ask them to add some die which will show up any leaks. If they get funny at all ask them why they didn't do a vacuum test to check for leaks before taking your money. Sorry to be so negative about this. I hope it gets sorted for you Pete
  10. Ironmike Love the wheels but i do think you had better polish your car before you fit them it looks very dull in that photo...... Seriously your paint looks 10ft deep....wow Just watch those dreaded curbs.... Pete
  11. Shed.... shed... what do you mean, won't it be cleaned and polished for this gathering.... you can sit in mine as long as you are clean!!!! LOL Looking forward to meeting everyone Pete
  12. Leadfoot This is not a car show, just a gathering of like minded souls, no one will care if your car has a few "issues" I love looking at cars... full stop. They don't have to be pristine, indeed a well used car has far more caracter than some show piece, so come along and have a chat, and certainly don't feel you are letting anyone down. Pete Ryo Great news, I thought I would be the odd one out.... Always liked the look of the 300 but never sat in one before, can I sit in yours please? Pete
  13. Only if he owns a Lexus and can bring the V5 to prove it, he will also have to know the LOC special handshake!!!! LOL Apart from that its fine with me!!??!!? Pete
  14. So are you lot going to leave it up to me to show those IS owners what a real Lexus is all about then???? Somebody must be able to show up.... 2pm on Sunday at Doncaster.... Pete
  15. Leigh You will love it they are great cars, the price seems about right, any cheaper and bells would ring. Enjoy driving it but remember to look at the road and not play with all the toys too much!!!??!?!? Oh and one last thing make sure you get at least one master key with it, the master will let you unlock the door and start the engine whilst keeping the key in your pocket, if this key is missing it's £2000 for a new one, along with the ECU you will need as well... Have Fun, post some pics a.s.a.p. Pete
  16. Steve Where have you been... stranger, I thought you'd sold the Lexus and kept the rangie but it looks like youv'e part ex'd it for a Veyron..... !!! Can't help with the wheel bearing, have you tried one of the american suppliers.... Pete
  17. Hi I'll be there unless the world stops turning or something.... mind you mines in for a service on Friday so I hope nothing else needs doing or I might not have it..... There again it is a Lexus.... what could go wrong.... (I don't think I should have just typed that!!!) Just so all you Is owners know mine looks like this Reminds me of a big Renault Clio!!! I hope it won't feel too out of place LOL Pete
  18. Hi This is the only other supplier of the DVD disc's http://www.lexus-mapupdates.eu/ You will need to remove your disc to check the number on it, then enter it in the website and they will tell you if there is an update, they are cheaper than Lexus and are very quick to deliver. To remove the disc, open the boot, remove the floorboard, prise out the plastic trim clip holding the right (drivers side) side floor panel, under this will be a silver box with a black front that you cant really see as its very close to the rear chassis rail. There are two 10mm bolts on top holding it down, use the spanner out of the tool kit on the other side of the boot and remove the bolts, DO NOT DROP THEM THEY WILL RATTLE FOR EVER!!! Lift the front of the DVD up enough to slide it open and press the button, I think you need to have the ignition on to do this. The disc will pop out and you can read the number. If you want to try with my old number on the site (you need to put a number in to get past the first page) its 08664 - 50860, put this in and it gives details of the latest available, but don't order it with my number because the version will be different, mine was a 2001 disc. The latest disc is a duel layer disc and is greatly improved over the earlier ones. Good luck Pete
  19. WOW never seen or heard of another in my colour combination, mind you there are only two others I see up here a silver one and a gold one, I do think they look nice in darker colours with the cream leather... Do you know what make of LPG kit is fitted? Pete
  20. Try looking here on how to post pics http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...showtopic=33474 Pete
  21. Hi Cambelt is 100 000 for a LS430 and this service will cost about £1000 the 90 000 service is about £450 so it will need some money spending on it soon, you haven't said how old it is? I presume it is an early one. For about £55 a Lexus dealer will do a complete check over of the car, had mine done when I bought it, a 2001 LS430 with 60 000miles, the only thing they found wrong was that the raised air suspension setting should be an extra 18mm but mine only went up 16mm!!!!!!!! that’s how well they check it. It’s a lovely car, you will enjoy it. Pete
  22. Hi Laser cruise was not a UK option on 2001-4 cars, only on home market and some other foreign countries. I presume you have read the report on the later 6 speed boxes having a much smoother change than the earlier 5 speed, well the writer of the report obviously had to make some comparison between the earlier and later cars..... well My earlier 5 speed has such a smooth change that I defy anyone to tell me when it changes gear without looking at the rev counter, the change is so smooth it is unreal, you could not improve on it if you tried, as for the kickdown, well you can't feel it change gear it just goes very fast very quickly, so if the later 6 speed is smoother then it must be better than perfect.... As for consumption who knows, the official figure is 1mpg more for the later car... Personally I'd have a later one if I could afford it because I think the front lights look nicer and I like the clear rear indicators, and unfortunately they will not fit the earlier car. I do prefer the red dial needles on mine to the later white ones but I also prefer the later oval exhaust tips rather than the hidden ones on mine (might put some different ends on mine soon though) So if you are looking to buy I'd just get the latest one you can afford, they are all brilliant... Good Luck Pete
  23. Hi, I have used Lexus MK. They seem fine and serve the most fantastic coffee but.............you pay for it all. If you want to half (probably more) the labour then I know of a specialist who "knows LS400s well". Mine's been to him once and he did an outstanding job. He's in central Bedford, PM me if this is near enough. Steve Please can you tell me the name of the Lexus LS400 specialist in Bedford? I live in Kent but am prepared to travel for a reasonable service! I am afraid to ask a Lexus dealer! I have a 1996 LS400 with 107,000 on the clock with Full Lexus Service History Hi I think you will have to wait ages for Steve to reply as I think he has sold his 400, he hasn't posted on here for months Pete
  24. Hi As is usual with these things I hadn't got round to doing it yet.... There is a place in the USA which sells them for about the same money if I remember right, if I get a chance I'll dig it out and post it up but I am away from the interweb till Friday Pete
