Impossible to diagnose without testing, it could be all sorts of things, you need to take it to a garage who can run a diagnostic check on it...

Most of those are probably down to low voltage, your battery may have been close to dying anyway and a few discharges have finished it off... Dealers will have some hardware to plug in that will measure voltage use so they should be able to get to the bottom of it, having said that most auto electricians should be able to isolate the exact drain from a multi use fuse...

The cats have a pre and post cat lambda, the pre cat lambda tells the engine ECU how the engine is performing, the post cat lambda checks that the cat is working correctly, most faults to do with the cats are down to faulty lambda probes, sounds like one of yours is failing which is not unusual at that sort of mileage. A study of live values with a diagnostic tool should help to diagnose this. I would have thought the garage who did the clean would have checked the before and after emissions..??? did they reveal anything...?? If it does turn out to be the cats, then look for a local place that makes stainless steel exhausts, they can fit a generic lambda for much less that will work and be as good as the original... VSC is unlikely to have been affected by anything in your post so maybe just coincidence, again, diagnostics should reveal the issue...

Well depending on the severity of the damage it can either be pulled out or replaced, it is not a simple DIY job, any body repair garage will be able to do it and quote for the repair... -
Totally agree, I like all the bells and whistles more than a perceived drop in longevity.... It will be the cheapest one I can find, I run a Range Rover L322 at present that does well if it gets into double figures MPG... Nobody was going to talk me out of it, I just wanted to know what problems people were having with them, lots of false information on the web about how unreliable modern Lexus are... personally I couldn't see it but knew that asking here would reveal the truth... it seems to be that they are issues with the suspension around 100,000 miles with airbags but my argument would be that they are a service item anyway, even coil springs fail at around that mileage... I won't be put off, the only thing that could throw a spanner in the works is if I don't get what I think the Rangie is worth...!!! In which case I may look at a GS450h, but that's another story...!!!

Cheers, the ones in the 430 didn't seem to get cool, they just blew air at you that couldn't get through the seat because you were sitting on it...!!! Undoubtedly the 400 was the best made, they even had a forged crank which was dropped for the 430, Lexus bought a dozen S class Mercs, took them totally apart and designed the 400 to be better wherever they could... but alas, nothing lasts, rumour has it that they didn't make much money on the 400 so when they decided to update it and build other models the accountants got involved and quality suffers... They are still streets ahead of the competition though... I'm on a Range Rover forum and a guy on there who can't even check the oil himself uses the dealer for absolutely everything, he spent £35,000 (no that's not a mistype thirty five thousand) over three years of repairs and servicing....!!!

Thanks for taking the time to type all that, really does seem like they enjoy eating suspension parts... any one I get will have done well in excess of the miles on yours so hopefully some of it will be done already... I have been doing around 15,000 miles a year so it won't be having an easy life, I don't mind fixing them, just wondered what I was in for. There are various places in the UK who can rebuild your own ECU's so saving money and reprogramming problems...

I have to concur, Waxoyl has stood still, it is the same product it was in the 70's, if you have done what you suggest then the rust will just keep eating away the metal under a nice warm wet coating, rusting out the car even faster, it really is awful stuff, I feel sorry for your friend (As well as the fact he owns a Rover...!!!) Dinitrol is superb though and well worth doing.... -
Wow, that's not very good service, I had occasion to use the dealer when I had the 430 and they were nothing but nice... I don't use main dealers for anything these days, I have access to a full workshop so do it all myself... Yes, I wish more did them without sunroofs, it's more the door aperture that limits me, usually too low, the IS is really bad for it.... It was me with the CL, nice car but again only a bit more reliable than a Range Rover...!!! Fed up with fixing them, just fancy polishing for a change....

I'm looking at ones that will not fall into the Lexus (and probably anyone else's) warranty criteria so this type of info is very useful, thanks... I know what you mean about the differences between the older and newer models, this is the same for the Merc, BMW and Audi, I think the Lexus has to be the best bet though....

Thanks Phil, have been reading the USA boards as well, they seem to suffer from different problems than we do, the heat seems to degrade the cars faster in the hot states.... Not fussed on high miles and at least company owned cars tend to get serviced well and problems fixed. The mechanics are pretty bullet proof, just wanted some feedback from UK owners to see if there were any trends, shockers seem to be popular and the GS430, GS450h suffer with them as well so maybe they can't handle the weight of the heavier Lexus... Just after ammo to shoot the price down even lower...... Cheers.
