  1. Hi It was these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/04-05-06-LE...emZ170067698614 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/04-05-06-20...emZ370096295800 Pete
  2. Hi Have a look at this thread and try the screen test to see if the screen is faulty or if any fault codes come up. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...showtopic=54266 Pete
  3. Hi These are a very personal thing, personally I like them on dark coloured cars... even thought about getting some but they just stick on and I think they will always look lke they were stuck on.... You could say that because you had to ask the question on here you already know the answer...... Pete
  4. Hi You won't find any aftermarket ones, they didn't sell enough cars, you will have to keep looking for second hand if you don't want to pay dealer prices If you google car parts there are loads of sites that will send emails to hundreds of breakers asking for your part... You could try a post in this section as well http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...p?showforum=141 Good Luck Pete
  5. Hi Welcome to the club I hope you like your Lexus... you don't say what year you have but try here for a headlight http://search.ebay.co.uk/search/search.dll...=breaking+ls400 Pete
  6. Hi The date and time were showing GMT so it was 3.35pm and I was in the school car park picking up my daughter who usually walks home but it was chucking it down.... Some of the other pictures were indeed in my work's car park.... i.e my drive. Pete
  7. I always thought people on this forum were very friendly and helpful to newcomers, I think you were trying to say “no need to shout” well as far as I'm aware you have to use capitols to shout.... Personally my sight is not what it used to be and I like the big text. Just remember we are not all computer wizards like yourself and everyone has to start somewhere. Lexusls4302001 was excited about something and wanted to share it with us. So say something nice or don't say anything at all....... Pete
  8. Hi I'm not too sure where mine spends its nights, don’t see it much at that time, the garage block is miles from the front door, I'll have to ask the chauffer but unfortunately Sunday afternoon is his time off, dashed inconvenient at times but the footman will usually oblige if the memsarb lets me have him.... Pete
  9. Hi Firstly I think I'd find a mechanic who knows what he is talking about.... as Bazza says if its over fuelling it isn't blocked injectors, suggesting you use injector cleaner was a positively ridiculous thing to say, if you have done 6 miles to £20 worth of petrol you will have washed the bores. Normally the cylinder bores in the engine will have a thin film of oil on them to help the piston up and down, wash this off with excessive fuel and injector cleaner means you will have dry bores. The next time the piston goes up and down it will scratch the bores as you have a metal to metal contact. Six miles at say 30mph takes 12 minutes at 2000rpm is 24000 engine revolutions with no oil. Probably the equivalent wear as a few years of normal driving. DON'T DRIVE IT ANY MORE. Get it checked by a proper mechanic, as Bazza says it will probably be the air flow meter or throttle body. Good Luck Pete
  10. Hi I never hit the limiter when I tried mine, it got to an indicated 172mph and ran out of puff.... The speedo is about 6% under reading according to a sat nav so that puts the true speed at 161mph. Maybe mine doesn't work.... Did it cut dead when you got there or was it more like a rev limiter?? It was on an unlimited road in Germany and took less time than I thought to get there, then what happens, I get overtaken by a new S class with no badges but with very fat exhausts.... I gave up then and set the cruise for about 100mph.... Hi Totally agree with the first bit above, you can always get a quick take off as opposed to trying to balance a fierce clutch with all that power, if you can get the jump on them and they bog down just a bit then you usually win.... Regarding the second comment that must be the market sector Lexus aimed at and are you my brother??
  11. Hi It’s quite entertaining actually, if you floor it, a light comes on on the dash and a beeper goes off, to let you know you are an idiot, if you are understeering then the line will tighten and you will regain grip before you can say "oh s**t" If the tail has come out it will gently come back in and you will tear off like a mad thing when the grip returns..... If you have chickened out before the car and are braking then it’s just as undramatic. When the EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution) and the TRC (Traction Control System) and the VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) do their stuff it is amasing how hard it is to crash.... Most of the time there is too much power for a full bore take off and the TRC cuts in and you pull of sedately, if however you are on a very grippy surface, shell grip etc, then the acceleration is very impressive for such a big lump of car..... Best time I've had so far is 6.09 sec to 60mph (hot day, two up, on LPG) I find you can beat most people, even in faster cars, because they all have the impression of Lexus drivers being granddads and you get a jump on them..... Pete
  12. Steve, Open the page, then right click on the address on the top line, the bit that starts with http://, it should all go blue when you right click on it and a drop down box will appear, one of the options is "copy" left click on that. Answer this thread and when you get to the point where you want to put it in, put your mouse bar where you want it and right click again, another drop down box appears, left click on "paste" and the link will appear as if by magic!!!! Have a go Pete
  13. Hi Could be the cam covers, you don't see much oil from the top.... look here.. it is a two day job though.... http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/engine/valvecover.html You could get a garage to clean the mess off and see where it is coming from As for stop leak, I used it ages ago on loads of old cars I had and it never ever worked so don't hold your breath.... Pete
  14. 15. Hi If you have, or a thinking of buying, an LS430 then this may be of interest. To access the Diagnostic Menu on the touch screen do the following. 1. Gear selector in park. 2. Handbrake on. 3. Ignition to ACC, (or start the engine if you want to do a speed check etc) wait for navi screen to power up, click "I Agree" (or buy the Vias Ipod or dvd lead and it does it for you) 4. Press and HOLD the OPTION button and AT THE SAME TIME... 5. Turn headlights from off to sidelights five times i.e. off/side/off/side/off. 6. To exit the menu, turn off the ignition, car will then behave as normal. You will then get this screen displayed, it shows if there are any faults stored in the ECU, mine below I presume means there are no faults... If you press Menu you will go to this screen Follow your way through the options and you get more screens, This one shows satellites locked onto, and location etc There is one to test all the buttons (I'm pressing the AUDIO button here in case you didn't guess!!) This one shows battery, speed, ignition, lights and parking brake. These next two check colours These next two allow you to test the touch screen, I have touched the first 5 bars on each one (sorry the second is a bit out of focus) Vehicle signal and sensor test. If you start the engine instead of just switching the ignition on you can drive away and check your speed via the sat nav in MPH or KPH I don't think there is anything you can mess up in looking at this but please do it at your own risk, I have played with mine a few times now with no ill effects. This is for the 2001-2003 LS430. The later cars will be a bit different but I think the access method is the same Have fun. Pete.
  16. Mark I know how you must feel being let down by the battery, but I don't think you have to go to those lengths, after fitting my new battery earlier in the year I have had no issues at all. Modern batteries are far better at holding a charge than those of old, they will keep producing around 12volts and a good amperage right up to the point of failure. With modern, high torque starter motors and very efficient ignition systems it takes far less to start a car than it used to. In the old days the battery would give loads of warnings of impending doom and you had time to get used to it, time to adjust to the fact that you would have to buy one soon. Nowadays you get a few days notice at best. Our modern batteries work fine until the end and we haven't, yet, got used to it. So leave all the gadgets on that made you buy the car in the first place and enjoy your time in France Pete
  17. Steve and Microcat Can you open the rear door and gain access to the trailing edge of the front door enough to get at the screws that hold the exterior lock in place? Just a thought Pete
  18. Hi Just a shot in the dark, could be leaking fuel injectors, when you switch off after a long run, the injectors leak petrol into the engine causing it to flood untill you welly it to clear it through. First thing to do would be use some injector cleaner and see if it makes a difference. Good Luck Pete
  19. Leon See here for step by step guide to cleaning it http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/EFI/throttlebody.html Pete
  20. Hi Could be 1. dirty throttle body 2. dirty MAF 3. plugs or leads 4. clogged injectors 5. faulty coil (s) 6. etc etc etc It’s very difficult to diagnose problems like this on a forum... if the car has done a few miles and not had the servicing kept up it could be almost anything, first thing I would do is clean the throttle body and MAF, try this site for how-to's http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/ Pete
  21. Hi Got mine refurbished by Lexus on a replacement basis, £60 a wheel + fitting and balancing and you get a Lexus receipt for them to keep things original. Unfortunately the SP sport 270 tyre is no longer made. Pete
  22. Hi Done the above, driven about 500 miles since, there still appears to be absolutely no difference, mind you, you wouldn’t notice 5-10bhp improvement when you have nearly 300 to start with!!!! Still, it looks nice.. Pete
  23. Hi You should never "coast" in a car, firstly it’s an offence, you have to be under power at all times and coasting is seen as not being... yes there are loads of times when you have to, changing gear etc but deliberately coasting is not allowed (how they know you are doing it is another matter!!) Also as Dave has said the auto box will get damaged, it will still be turning because the prop shaft will still be turning but the oil pump is driven from the engine side so you will lose pressure and wear it out.... On our clever boxes they do, sort of, slip out of gear when you back off, try it on a flat road and you can just feel the car sort of run on when you back off. The 430's box annoys me because if you are going downhill and you touch the brakes it changes down to help stop you "running away" They think it's a good idea, to me it wastes petrol..... Pete
  24. Hi My 2p worth A well documented problem with Mercedes is that if they are left at airports then the car starts "talking" to all the microwave/radio wave transmitters they have. This puts the car in standby mode for a while, also turns on your interior and puddle lights and so runs down the battery. Haven’t a clue what the answer is and I don't think Merc came up with one.... Never studied it myself but this could be the problem. When I fitted the LPG to mine it was sat on a ramp all day and I had the key in my pocket, it "talked" to it all day and by evening the battery was well down and I had to jump start it, so it doesn't take long... When I fitted a new battery earlier in the year I looked at fitting a bigger capacity one, as the one fitted isn't that big, but there is no space to fit a bigger one, the battery tray is the same size as the battery and you could not make it bigger. My original battery had one of those little green lights and it had gone out so a new battery was needed. I got one from Andrew Page, a Bosch Silver with a four year warranty. GOLD members can get a good discount with them and an account number. Can't remember the exact price but it was less than £70. If this is the problem and it’s because it switches the lights on then you could swap the lights for LED's. These will run for ages without flattening the battery. I have some fitted in my boot because repeatedly telling the wife and kids to not slam it and let the car close it has resulted in them shutting it so gently that it just sits there and doesn't close.... thus leaving the light on and flattening the battery overnight..... We always use the valet parking facilities at airports now, It's usually a little bit more expensive but it's excellent, turn up much later, pull up at short term parking, someone there to meet you with a trolley, unloads your cases and has also checked which check in desk to go to, and then on return, the joy of walking out of the airport to a warm car, have someone put your cases in the boot and leave the airport long before a bus has come to pick you up and throw you about all over the place for 10 mins, then hump suitcases out of a bus, stagger way across a car park, load the cases yourself, then find a flat battery....... etc etc To me it’s well worth the little extra. Pete
