  1. Are the hazards flashing when you switch the ignition on and off, or just by opening and closing the doors?
  2. They won't need to go anywhere near the timing belt to do the starter so there wont be any money saved on the timing belt side of things.
  3. As above. It will get more and more frequent. And sometimes it will fail to disengage again and will be turning and running with the engine going. Makes a hell of a racket and takes ages to disengage (and continues to crank even if you switch the ignition off). The gs 3.0 straight sixes don't require an engine dismantle to get the starter off. Space is tight, but that's all.
  4. Does sound like the starter/solenoid. There is a link in my signature to a tutorial I did on overhauling the starter. Easy job once the starter is off, a bit tight getting the starter off on a mk1 so probably similar on the mk2, but all in all, a £10-£15 repair plus a man hour or two.
  5. There are lots of options for head unit, and you would need to use a new fascia surround to fit a single or double din unit. If you search the forum, you will find lots of info and tutorials on this subject along with details of the amp bypass cable etc that you will need (and the sat nav cable required to keep the voice through the speakers).
  6. If you use the key, do all the doors lock/unlock? Is the "Dome" fuse blown in the main fuse box?
  7. I travelled to Devon last weekend too, and can only agree how great these cars are as a long distance cruiser.
  8. Here is a link to my tutorial for removing a Mk1 rear seat, can't imagine it would be much different on the mk2. clicky
  9. No probs mate. There isn't any delay in allowing the car to start after a battery disconnect on the mk1 so you should be fine on that score. Off the top of my head, the wiring that is around the airbox and piping is I think the coil wiring and 02 sensor(s) plus the distributor. The main coil plug lead also loops over the top of the pipes. All of those items would most likely stop the car starting (apart from the 02 sensor probably), so I would concentrate on that area first. Checking for a spark should be relatively easy using the centre spark cable from the coil.
  10. Have they checked the wheel bearings for play? Running out of ideas with the brakes themselves. It is still sounding like the backing plate catching, so if it ain't the discs/pads themselves, I can only think the whole hub/disc assembly is moving. Good luck mate, I can understand your frustrations. p.s. I assume the noise is definately coming from the discs and not a heat shield wobbling about and catching on the prop or something??
  11. I've just picked up a spare set of mk1 sport wheels (with new Tyres fitted too which was a bonus). Which means I want to refurb my existing set. I'd like to try out polishing them so the first step is taking the old paint off. Anyone know what best to use for the job without eating into the alloy at the same time?
  12. There is a link in my sig for removing the seat in a mk1, which I wound think should be very similar to a mk2. (follow the link for removing the sub).
  13. If the plate was catching still, I would've expected the noise to have remained, not clearup and then come back. Does the noise stop if you apply the brakes? Only other things I can think of off the top of my head are 1. A rogue stone stuck somewhere 2. Spring clip on back edge of pads not put back on (the ones in the pic below), so maybe the pad is moving about a bit and resting on the disk in an odd position.
  14. I would double check that the backing plate isn't rubbing on the edge of the disc. Quite a common thing when the brakes have been worked on.
  15. I think the poster was saying that the oil capacity is greater, not that it "used" it between changes ;)
  16. You can use a credit card under the edge to pop it out.
  17. Does the engine turn over when you turn the key to start it? Or does it click? or does it do nothing? Do the dash lights come on? When you push start and it goes, do all the lights on the dash go off that should go off? A few more details will help diagnosis.
  18. I have the Sport wheels on my GS300 Sport with the 10 wide rears. They fill the arches spot on IMO.
  19. The rear upper wishbones are sold as a single unit, I've not seen any aftermarket ones anywhere for the rear uppers. DO you know what has actually gone? The upper wishbone has two rubber bushes at the inner end, and a ball joint at the outer end. It may be possible to get a rubber bush from something else to fit, but no idea if the ball joint can be replaced seperately. Only sources I can think of off the top of my head are Lexus or breakers yards. I would assume if there are after market ones available, your local motor factor shop will be able to tell. Blueprint make front uppers, not sure about rear uppers though.
  20. If you are concerned about the MOT, keep the original bulbs and pop them back in for the MOT. I have hids in my GS, and not had any bother. Infact, the tester did give a little gripe about my side lights as I had changed them to LED's because they match the hid colour better. It still passed though.
  21. Divide the number of litres by 4.54 to get it into gallons 37.56/4.54 = 8.27 Gallons Divide the number of miles by the number of gallons 315.1/8.27 = 38.1 mpg
  22. Sounds like the solenoid on your starter motor. I have a link in my signature to a tutorial that I did for overhauling the solenoid.
