  1. No, you can do it all from above. The only picture of mine I can find with the part in is one I did for the tps sensor. Ignore the big red arrow (that is the tps sensor). The flow control valve is circled in green, and you can see the operating cable in the pic. Check the cable is still clipped on. As you adjust the temp inside the car, you can see the cable operating the valve. Just because it is moving the valve, doesn't neccesarily mean it is set correctly though. You can unclip the cable and move the valve manually to check the operation. i.e. disconnect the cable, put the interior fan on (once the car cooling system has warmed up of course) and operate the valve manually over different positions and check whether you get heat or not. If you establish you can get heat, put the interior temp up to max (so the cable moves to the max position) and then clip the cable back on with the valve in the max heat (from previous test) position. It should then work correctly again when you tirn the temp up and down. If need be, you can flush the matrix by either undoing the pipes at that valve, or by following them to the bulkhead and disconnecting there. Like I mentioned, do be carefull not to p*ss water all over the top of the engine, as water down the plug wells is a pain to get to and dry out (don't ask me how I know ).
  2. There is a flow control valve in the bulk head (pretty much in line with the back end of the engine). Check that the cable hasn't come adrift or loose. Is the antifreeze up to scratch, maybe the heater matrix froze? Or possibly the matrix needs a flush which can be done by disconnecting the two hoses at the Bulk head and flushing with a hoze. If you do flush, be careful not to let water spill on top of the spark plug covers, as it can fill the plug wells with water and cause some serious misfiring.
  3. Don't bother with the shops or ebay for any adapters, they all end up being for left hand drive if you email them for details. Toyota do some parts for the Aristo, but for some reason Lexus don't list the parts. There are some of the part numbers in my post here clicky The actual brackets you'll need to check with Toyota. I made my own, but I think there are genuine ones, it is just the parts diagram is w&nk and is impossible to tell what is what. You would just have to take a punt and order a few numbers I think.
  4. I like it. Your brother has had work done by them on two cars, but you still want complete strangers opinions
  5. For day to day driving, it should be "ON". Although do remember that when it is on "ON", there are no lights. It is only when you turn it "OFF", that the "O/D OFF" light will come on on the dashboard.
  6. I would assume that the company would have to pay the premiums though, and that if you get to use the cars privately, it would become a declareable tax benefit to individuals and have income tax implications? Or would that not be the case? The inland revenue always seem to have a way of stitching you up at every turn.
  7. Wouldn't it be the average between resets, rather than the journey you are making or just made? So if you never reset, that average would be more accurate than the tank average. So I guess the usefulness of either is dependent on how you use them, and how long you want the average over. i.e. neither is better than the other, just depends what you want to know. To the OP, I assume if you reset the average MPG, while using the first tank of petrol it should pretty much mirror the Tank Average. After the second fill up, and as fill ups go by, it will settle and move slower as it measures across more miles and more fuel.
  8. The spring rate for the IS200 suspension is different to the IS300, due to the heavier engine aye. But I'm selling IS300 ones anyway :P I could've sworn it said IS200 under your name when I replied
  9. aren't the IS200 front springs too weak to support the IS300 engine?
  10. <<BUMP>> just in case anyone has some.
  11. yip road legal.....its normally only the head lights that people have issues with as the beam patteren is wrong.. Just a point to remember, reflectors. The light might be legal, but that doesn't mean the car is once they are fitted. My understanding is that the rear of uk cars must have reflectors fitted on each "corner", so you would have to fit separate reflectors if the LED Lights didn't have them. I think the factory lights do, but most of the aftermarket lights don't. Just make sure you check which bucket the aftermarket lights drop into.
  12. Do you mean it doesn't release from the lever by the drivers seat? or not from the little pull cord in the boot either - assuming that pull cord exists on an IS? If the worst comes to the worst, you should be able to get to the actuator by removing the boot liner from that side and twisting the actuator to remove it.
  13. The GS300 powerplant is the same as the Toyota Supra. You will probably find more info on reliability by searching on the Supra. By all accounts, they are very good, strong engines. They have weaknesses, like the rear crank oil seal, so a good maintenance schedule is important, not neccesarily a Lexus one, just a good one.
  14. There are lots of choices for alloys, if you do a quick search on eBay, you will see lots on there as a taster. If you have the normal "sport" wheels, especially with the 10" wide rears, I would get them refurbed, as I personally don't think you can beat that wheel setup on the mk1. In fact, I think those wheels are so good, I even put a set on my mk2 Sport.
  15. The ect/pwr button purely changes the gear box, it doesn't adjust anything on the fuel/ignition side. It will kick down sooner and hold the gears for longer. With it turned off, the "ect" bit learns your driving style. If you are heavy footed, it will learn to kick down sooner. If you are light footed, it rarely kicks down unless you do litteraly floor it. I tended to leave mine in "pwr" as the car felt much safer with the extra response from the gearbox. I also think I got slightly better mpg too. If you disconnect the battery for a while to clear the ecu you will notice less of a difference between the two modes until it "learns" and becomes annoying (IMO) in ect mode.
  16. Nope, only differences are cosmetics. Wheels Grill Spoiler Front bumper sticker Rear quarter light stickers Lowered suspension Everything else is the same.
  17. Report them to the police for harassment as this is clearly causing you distress.
  18. Welcome to LOC. what year GS have you got?
  19. Last time I needed some obscure sized bulbs I got them from Maplins. They do a range of coloured 12 volt bulbs with legs, which can be used to replace blown bulbs in the bayonet style caps (by wrapping the legs back on to the cap like the old bulb) or soldered on directly. Might be worth a look.
  20. To put it politely, I would tell them to "f@#k off" and tell them to cease harassing you. Point out you have all the texts saved and will involve the police if they harrass you any further.
  21. The lack if response could be that you are asking about a '96 mk2. A '96 would be a mk1. My mk1 sport has 245000 miles on it and still going strong, so I would say 180000 is not an issue as long as it has been serviced on schedule. At a constant 70, I get about 33 mpg. Average I get around 25mpg. Never do. Constant 56 so can't help with that. My mk2 sport has 100000 miles on the clock so can't comment on mileage from experience. Although I would expect it to be fine. Not really checked mpg yet on it. Never been in an LS, so no idea on noise levels. My mk2 is much quieter in the cabin than the mk1.
  22. Are the discs the right way round in the cartridge? Not used mine for a long time (as i removed it) but from what i remember they dont go the way up you expect. It can also have problems reading cdr's, are they all genuine original cd's just to check? Definately not the security code, that comes up when you power on after a battery disconnect. In normal use, it just flashes up "SEC" when you turn the stereo on to show that a code has been set.
  23. Here is a link to a tutorial I did a while ago on the AC control Panel, which may help. Clicky
  24. Mine does nothing on a 3rd click. Maybe there are some dealer settable options?
