  1. Looking good :) Strange how there is such a large gap between the headunit and fascia.
  2. What do you mean mate? Someone removed the baby seat before getting in and doesn't let the seat belt wind all the way back in first? The ratchet will kick in as soon as you pull the seat belt all the way out. So if someone is sat with it on, and leans all the way forward so it reaches the end, the ratchet will engage.
  3. It is normal. If you pull them out to their full extent, a ratchet kicks in which stops them pulling out again until it is fully retracted. I assume it is to allow things to be strapped in without them rocking back and forth under acceleration and gentle braking. Can be a right pain at times. Would be nice if there was a switch to toggle it on or off.
  4. We're being optomistic :D :D He would have to be very unlucky for it to have stripped any teeth off the flywheel.
  5. The fluid is most likely the photochromic fluid that auto-dims the mirrors.
  6. You just need to make sure they have a reflector section in them. If not, you would have to put some separate ones on the car to remain legal.
  7. I have fitted a double din touchscreen in my '99 Sport. The fascia adaptor looks very much like the one you linked to. You may be lucky with bypass leads as you have a 2000 car. There seems to be more wiring adaptors available for 2000 on. Both links you posted don't seem to specify which Lexus they are on about, but the first one is worth a shot I would think. You will also need an iso adaptor for the head unit end of things as well, not just the amp. I bought a couple of different cables, which in combo gave me the hook ins to the factory harnesses with out having to cut anything off. I did have to adapt things in between the various cables I bought though. I installed a parrot handsfree kit at the same time but if the head unit you go for already has it built in then it wouldn't be an additional job to do with the wiring. Whilst I was at it, I also installed my Vibe active sub in the boot and put a reversing camera in. I'm happy with it all so far.
  8. If it does turn out to be the rear crank oil seal, the cost depends where you go. Lexus quoted me £900 odd plus vat, I got it done by a local independent for £311 (can't remember if that was plus vat or not). Needs the engine out or gearbox dropping to do the job, the independent went the gearbox out route. It is DIY'able if need be, I think the seal itself was £50 or something. Fingers crossed for a simpler problem and fix.
  9. Looking good mate. Although I hope you don't have many speed bumps about. Even with only a 30mm drop all round on my mk1, the sleeping policemen were a right royal PITA.
  10. If it is the 2JZ engine, then you could be seeing the start of the rear crank oil seal going home. Does the oil seem to be seeping around the engine/bell housing join?
  11. I would try removal of the mast and re-insertion. It could be that the end of the cord inside the mast has snapped and is causing an obstruction, so you may need a new mast anyway.
  12. Does the problem swap sides if you swap the bulbs from side to side?
  13. I dont know from experience, but I would expect it report them individually.
  14. I'm assuming if it has been decat'ed, then all sensors would trip. If the ecu is tryig to cut everything back to try and get the sensor readings in scope, then that could explain the lack of power. I would've thought a decat would need the sensors disconnecting and something plugging in in their place to fool the ecu. If the ecu is trying everything it can to get the right readings, and failing, it can only assume the whole thing is knackered and go into a limp home type setting.
  15. agree with both above, the actuall piston seal has gone and the boot is taking the strain. I wouldn't leave it like that, it should be repaired or replaced asap.
  16. Try this link, it should have what you are after. Lexus Owners Manuals
  17. Last time I saw any it was on eBay, although to be honest,I haven't noticed if there were any on there recently.
  18. I have it parked outside the local garage, so they can fit it… I am concerned about the clouds of steam that came off the engine….Any idea's ? I would expect the steam was the smoke from the starter burning up. It is also possible the heavy core feed to the starter overheated and started to melt its insulation. Without looking at the car, it is very difficult to anticipate where exactly the steam was coming from. You said it was from the right hand side, which is where the starter and cable would be. The water pump is at the front of the engine so in the wrong place, and I can't think of any reason why that would be affected by what happened with the starter. There aren't any water pipes that I can think of down the right hand side of the engine, so unless you had a major "other" issue at the same time, I don't think it was water related.
