  1. The performance of the 430 is just so far better. Try them both, you will buy the 430. Btw, did you end up doing much with the mk1?
  2. Do you mean it wont start at all after battery chane (turns over ok but fails to start)? If you haven't done it yet, once new battery is connected, you have to put the key in the ignition, turn to on position (don't try to start it) and leave it for 5 minutes (minimum, do 10 to be on the safe side). Turn off, remove key. Then put key in and start as normal. The immobiliser is now reset.
  3. Depending where you are, there is a place in Leeds advertising on ebay that will make a custom cat back for £299, that have 3 sound leeks to choose from and dozens of tips.
  4. Yeah, was good to meet you. Hope the parts are going to good use :)
  5. Hi, there are about 15 fish in there altogether, plus various inverts.
  6. Glad you are finally sorted with it. Luckily for me, it was the arb bushes which was a simpler fix. Having said that, I have replacement springs in the garage ready to go on in the next few weeks, so hopefully I won't have as many problems compressing the springs :eerrrmm:
  7. I have done the photos and submitted the stuff as a "How to" guide. As soon as the guide is approved, I'll add a link from here to it mate.
  8. Ditto the above. There should be a sensor (potentiometer connected via a rod to the suspension arm) on one front leg and one tear leg. They do corrode/break. As above, the car being jacked up and the suspension ending up at full extension may have changed or compounded the issues.
  9. Yeah, there are some good deals around on the mk2's. Having made the switch from Mk1 GS300 Sport, to a Mk2 GS300 Sport, the mk2 is a much better car in lots of ways. Having said that, having now got a mk2 GS430 Sport, I would thoroughly recommend one of those. Not much in it on fuel consumption, and the power and performance of the 430 leaves the 300's feeling rather pedestrian.
  10. I seem to recall something about there being a backup siren in the boot that has its own battery (the alarm system uses that and the two horns in the engine bay). The bleeping is to indicate the battery needs replacing - a bit like a smoke alarm beeps when the battery needs replacing.
  11. Nope, as long as they still flash amber. The silvertec bulbs are very good, as they look silver until they light up and then the amber shines through. If you don't use silvertec ones, you will have to put standard amber coloured bulbs in rather than the original clear bulbs.
  12. No idea mate, Not running a mk1 anymore so can't go have a look like I would've done in the past. If you buy the spares or repair one, at least it is off the car already to pull apart and have a look. I guess a soldering iron will be a requirement to swap out the LEDs though.
  13. Not heard of that before. My old mk2 GS300 Sport used to be reluctant to change properly when cold (I think it is a deliberate thing that stops overdrive gear working when cold or something), but not heard of what you are saying. Having said that, I'm not entirely sure what you are saying. Do you mean it stays in 1st gear and wont change to 2nd? or 1st gear isn't working at all and it uses 2nd gear all the time? If the gearbox has been changed, that certainly would count that out unless you were very unlucky. My first suspect would be the adjustment of the gear linkage.
  14. If it is a cam cover leak, then I can't see it being an expensive fix. Just needs the throttle body removing to get to the cam cover. If you mean the rear crank oil seal, that is a different matter. That is either engine out or gearbox off job. £50 for the seal, and variable amount for labour depending on garage. Lexus qouted be £980 plus vat (or something close to that), I ended up getting it done at an independent for £310 all in.
  15. This item number - 160762285114 - on eBay looks like it is the same as the one I have got. There maybe cheaper versions on eBay but it is a bit of a PITA trying to look at the descriptions on loads of stuff using the iPhone :(
  16. For the internal boot opener, it can be disabled by pushing in the lock button which is located between the boot opener lever and the petrol flap opener. Try turning your key in that lock to see if it pops out and re-enables the lever.
  17. There is one for sale on ebay as spares or repair due to bulbs out, maybe you could cobble a good one out of yours and that one?
  18. I'm pretty sure the mk2 wires weren't already connected. i.e. There was a plug, but nowt plugged into it. Perhaps there is a different sub-loom for the boot lid for the feed from the number plate lamps?? Maybe you will luck out with the mk3 and it is already there. The yanks and Canadians have /no fogs etc, so the lighting is quite different.
