  1. Wouldn't it be a bit awkward playing games on a touch screen mounted to the headrest?
  2. Welcome to LOC B) Yes, the exhaust is the same. The back boxes do appear on eBay for around £100 per side from time to time. Failing that, a custom made cat back system can be bought for £300-£400. Suspension ball joints and bushes. These can turn costly from Lexus, some aftermarket ones are ok, some are rubbish quality. Some of the bushes are available seperately aftermarket to overhaul the arms, rather than having to buy the whole arm (Lexus only do complete arms). There is a link in my signature to a tutorial I did for changing the front top wishbones. Sticking caliper and/or slide pins. Very common on many of the older Lexus models, not just the GS. There are a couple of my tutorials in my sig around the the calipers and slide pins. Sticking solenoid on starter motor. Again, quite common on a lot of older models. Again, a tutorial in my sig for overhauling the starter. Actually getting the starter off is a pig (lack of space), but if you are in the trade, I guess that isn't a concern. The 10" rear wheels are prone to cracking the inner rim. They can be welded, but just an added expense on top of a refurb price. Two out of the three sets I have needed welding (3 out of the 6 rears) Rear crank oil seal. A common'ish problem on the 2JZ-GE engine. Gearbox off job to rectify so can be costly, but helped for sure if you are in the trade. On a long steady run on the motorway, mine used to get 32 to the gallon. Around town I averaged low-mid twenties, if you are a bit enthusiastic, then mid to high teens. No idea on comparisons. Power is good, expect it a teeny weeny bit down on the book figures as the big sport wheels look the business, but do add to the unsprung wieght a bit. Plenty of get up and go regardless though. Comfort is great (not as great as the later mk2's, but still great). Handling is OK, but I would expect the handling of your other two to have been better (my only BMW experience was my old E36 £25 Coupe - whose handling was fantastic). As long as it has been maintained well, you shouldn't have any problems. The 2JZ-GE engine is a very strong unit. Good luck if you decide to go for it. With the 10" rears, they take some beating for looks and stance.
  3. There are two screws, which when removed allows the unit to pivot up so that the disc can be removed easily. Be aware that the latest disc available is not 2012 though, from what I remember, mine is 2009-2010 (the latest available for the mk2 Satnavs), which is not really that up to date.
  4. Welcome to LOC. Congrats, and great choice :) As per Dave with the interval.
  5. Yeah, great turnout guys, really good to put faces to names. Couldn't have asked for better weather, cars all looked great (and way better looking than the Volvo meeting in the other end of the car park :yack:) For what it was worth Ray, the food was great Looking forward to seeing the pics :)
  6. Lol.... I don't claim to be an expert, but I am a town person, and have been stranded in the town. Since I got winter tyres, l haven't even come close. Pity there isn't a feature to ignore quoted text from Phils posts as well <sigh>
  7. Just leaving now, will be about 15 minutes late.
  8. I can't see what ******* Phil is writing anymore other than what has just been quoted. However, if he actually read that article from "which?", it actually tells you the benefits of winter tyres in cold/adverse conditions, and the fact the up front costs are not as bad as they sound. His (the journalist) opinion was that he wasn't convinced town and city folk needed them, but still mentioned it may help them in snow/icy conditions. The upshot is, regardless of what you or anyone else says, my car was stranded at the bottom of a steep hill down a crappy side street for weeks, twice. Since using winter tyres, I haven't had any problems at all. So, In my experience, they helped no end. I am more than capable of driving, but if winter tyres are proven to grip better in the colder weather, then that is a good thing.
  9. Phil, I can't even be bothered to read whatever it is you have written this time. I managed the first couple of lines and you had already started to belittle folk. Just give it up. If I want to fit winter tyres, I will, and I'm not gonna listen to some trumpt up individual that has an over inflated opinion of his own self importance, especially when there is no defensible logic behind the ranting crap you are coming out with. If insults is your way of getting your own way, go try bullying somewhere else. I can't believe I have found two people in as many weeks to put in my ignore list, when in all the other years on LOC I had only felt the need to sanction 1 person to that list. Give yourself a round of applause :)
  10. I use fuels from whatever garage I come across when I need it, named brands and supermarket. Never had any noticeable ill effects or gains from any of them.
  11. Looking at the pics of the whole car, I would say the offset is different to standard and that's the reason for it. Bending the liner with a heat gun is a good tip.
  12. Worked a treat, no more VSC lights. Good stuff :)
  13. Strange. I've just opened all three of Colins attachments. The only problem with covering the lamp and not solving the problem is that you won't know when a different fault shows up (unless you read the codes frequently of course). Plus, as I understand it, it is an MOT fail if the lamp doesn't come on with the ignition and then go off once the self test has finished.
  14. Just to add to the pro winter tyres brigade, I run winter tyres on my GS430 Sport (275/35/18 rears, 245/40/18 fronts) and would highly recommend the switch at this time of year if you have a spare set of wheels (as I did). My car spent two three week stints stuck in a side road as it would make the hill where I live and then getting stuck where I had to leave it instead. Winter tyres do the job no problem at all and I've not come close to be stuck yet, fingers crossed.
  15. I should be good for this now. How are the numbers looking?
  16. bit of a result if it is covered under warranty :hohoho:
  17. The cheaper ones should work no problem on yours. It was 1999-2000 GS300's that wouldn't work. My 2001 GS430 works no bother on the cheaper ones, although they can trigger a vsc light to come on. The reset procedure I posted up a few days ago for that, if it does happen.
  18. I'm not aware of any shortcuts for the codes. If you were closer you could've used my reader, but they are pretty cheap these days and well worth having in the toolbox.
  19. OK. Shame, I have a full set of used bottom arms for a mk1. You will need to establish which arms/bushes are worn, it will be costly to replace all three bottom arms on each side that could be worn, so narrowing it down would be better.
  20. Welcome to LOC B) What year is your GS300?
