  1. In all honesty, that looks like a proper shed... lol. I doubt it has hids, it was an option but I think on later cars than '99 (and was standard fitment on Sport models). You can confirm by looking by the mirror adjustment switches, if there is a numbered knurled dial, that is the manual headlamp height adjuster. Hids have auto levelling so that dial is missing. As it is an import, technically it would be an Aristo and therefore a grey import, which can put insurance up. I would walk really, if they have been driving it around on trade plates, why would they not MOT it, if it comes without, I would assume some costly issues to resolve to get an MOT (as I can't believe they wouldn't have tried to MOT it). Plus it just generally looks battered and tatty. As far as getting the washers working, there would be a couple of checks to do first. Is it just the nozzles missing? If you activate the washers, does a strong jet of water just fire out all over the shop. When they are present, when you activate them, they kind of motorise out the bumper before squirting the lights, if that whole unit is missing from inside each washer hole, you have even more work to do.
  2. Apparently, if you have headlamp washers, they must work. I can only assume the tester to start with just forgot that the headlights had to be on for the washer button to do anything.
  3. The GS went in for its MOT yesterday. Got a call late in the afternoon saying that it had failed on headlamp washer not functioning, and the exhaust blowing at both back boxes, plus emissions which wrere most likely related to the blowing exhaust. They quoted £690 for the exhaust, and they would need to investigate the washers. As I want to get a custom exhaust for more V8 rumble, I couldn't justify that cost, so I picked the car up. Washers worked fine, so I assume they were just doing them wrong. Checked out the exhaust and patched the holes with some gungum paste and repair kits. Dropped the car back off this morning, picked her up with full ticket this evening. Not a bad result, went from a £700 plus bill to a £14.98 bill for some exhuast repair bits and bobs :)
  4. It's just time for a change i need an impreza in my life :D Fair enough. I have a Corrado VR6 for the nippy manual gearbox cravings :)
  5. not really a good recommendation though considering just about every vehicle suffers from corroded pins at some point true enough... lol. Or maybe the trouble starts when someone decides they are going to use something else I suspect the majority of the issues are due to the fact that in general, one pin is undone, the caliper pivoted up to get the pads out, new pads in, caliper back in place and pin bolt back in. No attention paid to cleaning and maintaining the pins and boots.
  6. Is this the one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290631618920 ?Doesnt mention anything about being high temp Yes, that is the one.
  7. Where abouts are you? Someone on here may be able to read the codes for you. I'm in Basingstoke and can do it if you are close to me.
  8. Welcome to LOC I Don't think there are many cheap options available to you unless you can find a breaking GS that has one.
  9. Sorry mate, can't really help with the IS. On all my GS's, I preferred the OEM look so opted for a K&N panel filter to fit the factory air boxes. Even on my Corrado VR6, it had a cone filter on it when I got it, but I reverted it back to a K&N panel (and had to buy a factory air box). There are a few on here who have made their own induction kits with stainless pipes and silicone bends.
  10. What do you consider to be a fortune? You can get new lowering springs from £105 on ebay for the IS200.
  11. You can buy just the mast, rather than the whole unit. Quite cheap and only takes a couple of minutes to do if that. You can get the masts on eBay, and depending how quickly you want the item, they are cheaper from the United States (I got two for the price of one effectively, by going state side).
  12. I think some people on this board forget that it is the posters car, and they can do what they want with it. If you want a V8 burble, and love everything else about your car but the lack of that exhaust note, then change whatever you want to make it sound how you want it.
  13. There is some electronic wizardry with the power steering, but if the engine has stalled due to power failure, then the belt driven pump would stop also. It has an hydraulic brake booster (with the nitrogen accumulator), rather than the more traditional servo assistance, the pump for it is electric.

  15. A long breaker bar does wonders for undoing the carrier bolts :)
  16. Most of the systems are electronic, those systems require a minimum voltage to function. If the battery fails, or the alternator stops charging, etc, then as the voltage begins to fall, the systems begin to fail.
  17. Yeah, that spring is a genuine spring for the rears, just seems to be pot luck if they are present or not. My mk2 GS300 didn't have them (hence not there in the tutorial), my GS430 does have them.
  18. As above or maybe alternator belt snapped/cut or main battery power cable shorted?
  19. Can't imagine anyone would put a Q plate on a genuine shelby or even any other genuine Cobra, probably a replica like a Dax Tojeiro.
  20. The tyres they are fitted with will make a huge difference to road noise, so it may not come down to just the car.
  21. Good result :) And definately worth giving the dealers a call whenever you are looking for parts. They are either a pleasant surprise as in this case, or you get the opportunity to thank your lucky stars that you have saved a huge wedge by not getting the part from them
