  1. p.s. you can read the check engine light codes by: Switch ignition to on, withotu starting the car bridge pins 4 (CG) and pin 13(Tc) on DLC3 read the pulses on the check engine light.
  2. The inside socket does look similar to a scart socket, it is a standard odb2 connector. Unfortuantely, the '99 GS's aren't ODB2 compliant though, so the code readers won't work. If you already have one, no harm in giving it a go though. Later cars work fine with the readers. The park brake light remaining on if the park brake is off can indicate other faults. Switch stuck on is one option but unlikely considering the lamp brightness changes (switch is on the pedal assembly). If no buzzer is sounding, then normally fluid level, if buzzer is also sounding, then probable brake booster problems. Can't ignore the potential that if the light has been on all the time, the buzzer may have been snipped to hide the booster buzzer. You can sometimes test the buzzer by repeatedly pressing the brake pedal a large number of times. It may then buzz and go off again a few seconds later. Of course if the buzzer has been cut, no way to test it other than check wiring.
  3. The drain and refil bolts are on the side of the diff (on the drivers side I think). Which one is which will be obvious (one higher than the other). 1.35 litres of Hypoid gear oil API GL-5. Torque for the plugs is 39 ft lbs.
  4. I'll weigh it up and you can have it for the cost of the postage. It'll be a couple of days before I can get to it though.
  5. Have you got links to the cars? My 99 GS300 Sport had 136,000 miles on it, and ran like a dream, so either of those whould be good unless seriously abused. Low mileage engine may not help on the rubber suspension parts though, as perishing plays a role as well, You will only tell this by seeing the car and driving it unfortunately. Did you have a mk2 before? If not, I would recommend going and trying out a couple local to you (Even if you aren't interested in buying thwm), pick one good looking one, and one dog. You should then get a feel of what to look for when you are heading to view the potential candidate(s).
  6. Not a common iss that I am aware of. I still have a mk1 GS300 head unit in the garage, it has been there a while gathering dust though, so I can't guarantee it is fully functional (it was when removed from the car).
  7. All the same way round as far as I know and never changed, not on mk1's and 2's anyway. Even the left hand drive models have them on the same sides of the steering wheel. Ls's are in the same position I believe.
  8. Hey Rob, not seen you here for a while.Only because the OP has a 2002 GS430 and he said it had been made to look like the Sport version. They were the only Sport wheels for the mk2. Yeah Rick, been having a "few" issues of late. had the aircon gassed but the guy who did it said the compmressor wasn't working so I have that to change now when I get the time and the know how. Think I have a water pump issue but it's wierd, sounds like the barring has clanking issues for the first 5 mins of the engine running, then it goes away and sounds fine but when I stop the there is a water leak and it loses all the water in the engine over the next 4 or 5 hours, can't see where it's coming from because if the plastic under engine protector so I have that to remove so I can find the leak too. Have issues with the Radio ariel, I can get the ariel off and see where the new cogged strip goes but can't figure out how it attaches to the mast itself. Was in the middle of doing a tutorial for the drivers door control panel led change but up to and including the fourth soldered led in place all four light up, soon as I solder the fifth in place I am back to only having two of the five lit - this is very head scratchingly annoying. Changed the headlights to HID's last week and now I have to get them re aligned. Was going to fit angel eyes inside the headlights and bottled out at 10 mins in the oven to split the unit, was a little aware that other components would melt before the glue melted so chickened out. I also have a cracked alloy on the back end (the 10" ones) since running over a pothole, when I actually looked at the wheel on the inside, I thought it looked very egg shaped too, this now needs replacing too and you can't really find them any more. Other than that, things are good, lol. Wow, having a tough time with the GS at the minute then :( If the rear is just cracked, they can be welded, two of the four 10" rears I have I had to have welded. With any luck, it is just yoru imagination regarding its egg shape. Do you mean you have a new cord (white plastic toothed bit), but seperate from the sectional chrome bits? If so, no idea how they would fit, but can only assume it would pull out, or the tip on the end of the aerial unscrew off the end of the cord??
  9. lol... not a problem. Centre caps are very rare for both the mk1 and mk2 Sport wheels. So was hoping to find a supplier to fill the gap. Can't find the sport wheel ones on Hubcaphaven either though unfortunately :(
  10. I did a bit of research a while back and I think the LCD panels were available from America at the time. Not especially cheap and would more than likely be cheaper to source a head unit from a breakers.
  11. Hey Rob, not seen you here for a while.Only because the OP has a 2002 GS430 and he said it had been made to look like the Sport version. They were the only Sport wheels for the mk2.
  12. Can you link to the mk2 sport centre caps, I can only find generic "lexus" wheel badges? :(
  13. http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.Xls400+tie+rod&_nkw=ls400+tie+rod&_sacat=0&_from=R40
  14. The sport centre caps aren't a universal style, they would need to be the correct ones.
  15. Doesn't look like a factory switch. Best bet is pull the trim out and follow the wiring.
  16. Mk1 gs300's aren't odb2 compliant so you won't be able to plug them in (the connector is the right shape, but it won't talk to an obd reader).
  17. I am sure that there are - it struck me that the one you referenced was way wide of the law. They aren't wide of the law, they are a show plate company so no such laws apply. Only someone buying them and using them on the public highway are breaking any laws. quote from their website: "Show registration plates are manufactured and supplied for 'off road' use only, rally days, car shows, exhibitions and use on private land where the law does not apply. Due to stringent restrictions of trade placed upon the 'Company' by the DVLA, all registration plates, legal or otherwise will be sold to the customer on the basis of being for show use only and the customer may risk prosecution if the registration plates are used on the UK highway."
  18. re: Lookers and Lexus Hatfield, have a read of this post........... http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/82874-retro-fitted-cruise-control/
  19. What other code was showing for the sensor? In any case, change the sensor 1st and reset the DTC codes and take it from there.
