  1. The last set of points I got (for fixed camera speeding) the letter that came back with my license said they remain on the license for 4 years but count towards disqualification for 3 years. The insurance companies are just using the 5 year time line so that they can stiff you for longer as the points don't count towards anything from the law side of things. I'm sure before long the insurance companies will just ask "have you had any convictions ever" just so they can nail you for longer. Technically, there is no reason to have them removed from your license unless you just want a clean looking endorsements section on the driving license counterpart. It has no other effect once they are spent. Edit: Interestingly on the link posted by Parthiban, some points remain on the license for 11 years (although it doesn't say on the link how long they count towards disqualification) so the insurance companies are missing out on a trick by only asking over a 5 year time span. Means the most serious offences are getting off lightly on their insurance.
  2. That is not true, he has already stated he want's compensation. This would open the flood gates to every other IS owner who has had wear problems. This is the reason I think Lexus will not give in. Maybe there could be an out of court settlement, with I would assume a gag clause in it to stop any further puplishing of the result. Just out of interest, and I know this is a difficult one to answer, but does every single IS wear the tyres like this? or are there ones out there on the original Lexus geo settings that are not having problems?
  3. I'm finding this thread really interesting. I do think you need to get off your high horse about critics on the thread. I have seen no critics, just people pointing out that you have a tough job on your hands and stating that worn tyres are an issue for the consumer to keep an eye on. You would be hard pushed to have a brand spanking new set of tyres put on and they be completely illegal within a week. Check your tyres regualr, end of. 7000 miles is not regular. I also find it interesting how all the other non "critics" (if you still want to call the other critics) are all saying "yeah do it" when they are obviously agrieved about the wear issues but have chosen to do naff all about it for god knows how long. It is easy to push someone else into a no-win situation than sort it yourself. Look in other threads people are saying how wonderful Lexus are, yet in this thread they are no better than worthless, cheating, scumbags. I wish you every luck with your persuit of this case, taking on the financial clout of Toyota is one hell of a deal and is gonna cost you big time. I hope something worthwhile comes out of it but for the life of me a cannot see it will. As has already been illustrated in the thread, the potential compensation that may arrise from this is huge, so the amount of money it will take in court to get you off their backs is pocket money in comparison. I just hope it is pocket money for you too. The comparison on battery life of a laptop is not the same, the financial implications to the manufacturer are/were completely different. An apology is one thing, a potential multi-million payout is another. I thought your original letter to Lexus GB was good, however, I do think you earned the dismissive response you got back, as you clearly belittled them in your letter. Taking the ***** or trying to be funny is never good idea in prelim to a legal battle, you should've left the bits about wearing gloves out of it, I don't think you did yourself any favours. Anyway, despite all that, I do wish you luck in this case.
  4. Funnily enough, it was the reason I asked further up if they came with the TTE logo. I perfer them with TTE logo than the Lexus "L" logo.
  5. Yes mate, if you sent it to me (I'll PM you my email addy) I'll sort it out for you.
  6. sh*t.... where was it mate, just out of interest? Long Eaton, just off J24 of the M1.
  7. You've just missed one last a week ago mate. Last Midlands meet There should be another one in the not too distant future though.
  8. It is a safety feature. The car has to know where the fully open and closed positions are so that it knows when there is something else obstructing it at some point in between, i.e. a childs head or something. It then knows it is not at fully closed and will stop the window for obstructions. This has been the same for any car i have had with the auto close feature, BMW, Rover (even cheap cars care about kids heads ) etc.
  9. I'd be interested too and like others, what size is the final pic?
  10. Better that than a SAAB with the brows Just kidding, neither are a new idea at the end of the day. I like the angel eyes myself, but the brows looked good on the cars at the midland meet last week. Maybe go for angel eyes and the amber brows flashing with the indicators (like yaumeister has on his).
  11. Well, having covered 169,000 miles, she sailed through the MOT this morning. Well chuffed. The tester did comment on the HID's mind you and the blueness of them (6000k bulbs). No problem with beam pattern and alignment though so not a fail.
  12. Ah, but he said But I agree, it will take a while to get accurate figures averaged out with complete fill ups.
  13. But £30 won't fill up from empty, more like £62-£63 (IS has 60 litre tank??) from empty. Unless you brim it, drive around and then fill it to the brim again, you will not get any kind of consumption figures. Lexus are well known for putting the empty light on rediculously early, my GS light comes on with 4.5 gallons left in!!
  14. Did you get these sorted mate? If you did, did the caps have the TTE logo instead of the "L" logo?
  15. I prefer those rear lights to the ones in the ebay pics. The all silver looking lights just don't do it for me.
  16. Not much needed at all to do the job. I think it took me about half an hour at the midlands meet to change Lexus2D's pads and discs. 14mm spanner or socket for the caliper slide pin bolts. 17mm socket and breaker bar (I use a 2ft breaker bar, makes these very easy to get undone, a standard length racthet can be difficult) something to retract the pistons (a carpenters G-clamp can be used if you don't have the proper thing). That's it for the tools, just some copper grease, a wire brush and maybe some degreaser depending on whether the new discs have a protective coating on them to stop them rusting in storage.
  17. Fingers crossed then mate. Remember to order the slide pins as well, they are not part of the carrier as far as I know. As I mentioned further up, they are in the ball park of £8 each, so that will be another £32 (+VAT?) on top. You may also have to buy new rubber boots for each pin too as I can't remember if the pins came with them, I have a feeling they didn't.
  18. The lower ball joints bolt onto the bottom of the hub with a couple of bolts. You will need a ball joint splitter to seperate the ball jount from the bottom arm, and a breaker bar with a socket to fit the bolts that connect to the hub. That should be it I think. I've seen a walk through with pics somewhere (not neccesarily for an IS but the setup was the same) but can't remember where though.
  19. Sounds like a good start so far. From what I can gather, Lexus are pretty reasonably priced for the mat sets.
  20. Felt nowt here in Dorking. I feel robbed
  21. I have to say, if the finish was better and not in silver I think it could look quite good. The silver lights at the back are what make it look completely pish IMO.
