  1. The first and second gears are for braking not doing 0-60 times. When you are in D drive and doing about 70 and flick the gear stick to 2 postition you get engine breaking to help slow this big car and if thats not enough to stop you then flick it to 1st postion for even more engine breaking at around 30mph or less. To pull away quick just select the power button and shove the pedal to the floor with a double motion, This will then give you good accelaration. Some good tyres will ahel along with strut braces for faster corning. Wider alloys with more rubber helps, But at the end of the day it's a luxury car not a sports car. You can get some air intakes and supercharger kit for 400 horsepower, It's about £3500 UK pounds for the kit. Maybe I misunderstand but.... In D it will still use first gear first, followed by second etc and the original poster is referring to slow pickup in first gear and getting better power once it changes to second?? So he is wondering if he has a problem with first gear?? I though the 0-100km/h for the LS400 was quicker than the GS300 so I would say 9 seconds seems a bit slow. However, no idea what the problem might be other than maybe a fluid change is in order for the gearbox.
  2. ebay is your friend, that's where I get mine :)
  3. Assuming a Mk1 Sport alloy, not sure about a metal one (unless you use a pair of longnose pliers ;) ) Part number for a bolt (singular) and key from Lexus is PZ439-10671-2P (you would need 4 kits to do new bolts on all wheels). IIRC, they are not expensive, something like 4 quid.
  4. I think Platinum was the name of the model (in Australia) rather than the colour going by the other topic. Like Sport, SE, LE etc is over here.
  5. Definately sounds like a prank call by some mates (one of them could've seen him on his phone?). Easy solution is phone the station and ask to speak to PC Whoever. The answer is probably that there is no one there of that name.
  6. Like the colour B) I can't see any reason why you couldn't have 18" or 19" wheels fitted and leave the ride height as it is, but it would certainly look better lowered a wee bit, even with the standard wheels
  7. No idea if the IS setup is similar to a Mk1 GS but maybe some of this may help ----> clicky
  8. I would be inclined to hook into the cigarette lighter illumination so that they only come on when you have your lights on.
  9. According to the MOT, the tester will check: and fail if: Hope that helps
  10. I thought the proof you had to provide was to prove the car is the car you say it is and has that reg number. Basically so that you can't make up false number plates. The MOT station has that info at its disposal through the DVLA and I assume they made them up. Unless the "Auto Centre" bit is the name of a different company who made them. i.e. to be properly legal, the plates are meant to display the name and postcode of the company who made them I believe.
  11. Just as an additional note, if you do fit a pump and the cold supply is gravity fed, make sure the feed for the hot water is taken from a point above the feed for the cold. If you end up pumping water faster out of the header tank than it can fill back up, you don't want the cold side stopping before the hot side, could be very painfull.
  12. I know it was 5 years old, don't mean I didn't fancy knowing what happened to the neighbour after the gypo's had finished ;) Maybe threads should be auto-closed after a certain period if it offends so easily :P
  13. ebay is an option. one on this link ebay mast. Ebay in the states is cheaper, got mine from over there for about half the price including shipping. I did a walk through on this thread clicky if the white toothed cord has broken off inside the antenna mototr unit, just in case yours has done this. Although yours is a Mk2 and mine is a Mk1, the setup will be very similar if not the same.
  14. One of the things that I do hate about the GS is the position of the oil filter. It is a right b*tch to get to and to get off and no matter what you do oil ends up down the side of the engine and all over the engine mounts etc. What I'd like to do is fit a remote oil filter, anybody got any ideas what is needed in total (guessing adaptor plate for existing filter mount, pipes and new filter mount)? If possible, I'd actually like to change the whole setup to something similar to the E36 BMW, where the oil filter is just the element and is inserted into a cast case with a bolt on lid. Anyone know a good place to to get the bits and if it would be possible to use a BMW oil filter or would you have to use a Lexus/Toyota one? I've no idea what specification filter need to meet as far as filtering ability goes and if they are all the same. Hope that lot makes sense, Cheers.
  15. No wizz and I'm sure someone cann do a better job but it is a start
  16. If it was anything like my mk1 GS300 one when I replaced it a couple of months back then it is pretty simple. This is what I did: Remove rad cap Drain radiator - there is a little tap on the bottom right hand end (looking from the front of the car) that you can put a pipe onto and drain into containers if need be. Remove any induction items (cold air intake etc) if they go over the top of the rad. remove the viscous coupled fan - might not be absolutely neccessary but made life a lot easier. disconnect top hose disconnect bottom hose disconnect coolant level sensor clamped transmission cooler pipes and disconnected (to minimise transmission fluid loss) disconnect electric fan connector (if present) undo the two top mount clamps and remove lift out radiator (freeing it from the bottom mount rubbers) and remove from car. Took about half an hout to get out I guess, about the same to put back in.
  17. Not sure about the different wheel combo myself. Someone on here had got luminous orange wheels which I thought looked pretty good and quite unique, but that was all four wheels.
  18. On sewells website is the is200 called a is300 as theres no is200? The yanks probably didn't get the IS200 then if it isn't on the site.
  19. Was that the one that had the £499 start price?
  20. I believe there are official Lexus ones available from the dealer. Sewells in the States do them so I assume any Lexus dealer does. Halfords don't do them for Lexus, they do Toyota colours so if you can find your colour in Toyoya speak (probably just called silver rather than some fancy name ) then you might strike it lucky.
  21. There is an orange one in Basingstoke with a cool Aluminium trim panel around a twin exhaust that says "Smart Arse" on it. Thought it was pretty funny.
