  1. The Lancia Delta and Prisma that I had never gave me any problems. Pretty reliable considering they were Italian.
  2. If it is a Mk1 GS, then answer is "No", unless you put an after market alarm in. Although remember the Mk1 key has a transponder in it for the immobiliser, just not the remote control for the alarm.
  3. The owners manuals purely state to use an ethylene-glycol antifreeze, no need to have to use Toyota stuff, just personal preference.
  4. Isn't it just reflections on the knurled knobs that is visible?
  5. :P I'm not into politics mate, just say what I think.
  6. You've 'slapped my wrist' about this once already mate. To make it clear, I've installed it as a parking device and turn it off when I'm on the road. I wasn't slapping your wrist mate, I was just pointing out to the OP that it is illegal just in case he didn't know.
  7. however, you should be aware that jamming a police radar is illegal, and they can tell. i.e. if they have a gun pointed at you, and they are not getting a weird response back, they know you are doing something. Whether that ends in a prosecution would be luck of the draw I guess.
  8. As far as I know, to do a proper fluid change you have to do a combo of both. Removing the sump plug does not drain all of the oil, so you drain it first from the sump plug, refill with the same quantity that was drained. You then move on to the cooler pipe, turn the engine over and pump out fluid. re-top up with the amount removed, and keep repeating at the cooler until you start getting clean oil out of the cooler.
  9. To be fair, almost all mods are money down the drain. Sometimes money doesn't come into it, it is the satisfaction of doing something different and unique. Although admitedly converting a petrol car into an oil burner isn't my cup of tea.
  10. Last MOT, the tester commented on the blueness of mine but didn't fail them, they are 6000K bulbs.
  11. I would check the balljoints next, top and bottom. And probably check the track rod ends for play too.
  12. I've had a couple of rattles on my Mk1, so not sure what is common between the mk1 and mk2's. 1st has been the back plates on the brakes. They are held onto the hub by 4 or 5 little bolts. One of my backing plates rusted away round a few of those bolts and they started to rattle. Pulled the plate off in the end and replaced it with one of some suspension spares I already had. The other thing was on the exhaust, just before the back box area. There is a weird metal and rubber weight bolted to the exhaust on each side. It is apparently something to do with being a resonance damper. Anyway, the washer had perished and had dissappeared so was quite loose. The only way I could get it to rattle when ithe car was in the air to find the rattle was to bang the cat quite hard with my hand at the front end of the exhaust system. Angle grinded the old bolt off and then put a new one through and tightened up, the rattle had then gone. As a quick check, you should i think be able to reach these weights without jacking the car, they will be roughly in line with the back axle on the exhaust system. Give them a wiggle, if they wiggle, they are loose.
  13. Yeah, I assumed that would be each. Fair enough, although if they are OEM quality then they should still be fine. I assume when they say recon, they mean they keep the existing cast iron part and put a new ball joint in it. Without checking for play it is hard to tell. The top ball joint could have problems but I would assume they would've spotted that when they checked your suspension out. They are the expensive ones, as they come as part of the top wishbone. I changed my passenger side one recently 'cos there was some serious play in it but luckily I happen to have a spare wishbone for each side in my spares bin. Oh, and try checking the track rod ends too as they are also balljoints.
  14. No ball joints listed on the link Anees, but bookmarked anyway for future reference. Anuj, works out about 100 quid including postage, if the import duty is not too high or you get away with no import duty, then not a bad deal at all. The quote you had for £65+vat fitted is pretty darn good too IMO, and much less hassle than fitting them yourself.
  15. Yup, mine don't hold the boot in the slightest and it comes crashing down at a hell of a rate if you are not ready for it. I will probably order a set in the next week or two.
  16. Help?! I was stuck and forced to use radweld to get home. Is there anything I can do to prevent radweld causing damage? I've never had radweld cause any problems on my Lex or any other car I have owned (as long as you don't use it on the Honda/Rover 2.7 unit). You could do a coolant flush to get rid of most of it if you wanted to though.
  17. Funnily enough, I messaged the guy on the second link over the weekend to get shipping costs to the UK. He replied it was $24.80 to the UK, so not a bad price all in :)
