  1. Mine has one or two bad bits, some rust on the drivers door :o a knock on the NSF bumper, but overall still shines up quite nicely. No idea mate, I had a red, a white and a black one (and a silver one I think). I went for white partly because the RS*R ones I had put on the other side were white, and partly 'cos the rest of the colurs kinda got lost on the car. The black one I gave to Graham which he put on his car on Sunday. If you are after a white one, PM the user "sorted vti", he made them up for me as Lexus don't do them anymore. Thanks. Yeah, after great expense it is now running sweet
  2. Excellent write up mate, well done. Only thing I would add is I would use copper slip rather than lithium grease on the shims and pad backs etc. Mk1 is pretty much the same other than the calipers are a single piston sliding caliper, rather than an oposing double piston. You can find that sometimes the discs don't just pull off due to the handbrake shoes catching on a lip on the edge of the drum. You then need to back-off the self adjuster. You can't see it in Patches pics, but the self adjuster is at the bottom side of the shoes, you basically align the plugged hole in the disc (which should line up with the hole in the hub) by rotating the hole to the bottom, and sticking a screwdriver through to turn the ratchet back a few turns. Hope that makes sense, it probably does once you see it infront of you. This applies to the mk2 as well. Once back together, wind the adjuster out to take up most of the slack and make sure the shoes aren't catching. The footbrake should then take up any other adjustment.
  3. 30 euros aint bad but failing that I would expect a breaker should have it.
  4. That looks spot on mate, some nice subtle mods so far but got to agree with Parthiban re the "S" badges. Other wise, it looks quality. Any performance mods planned?
  5. Thanks for the comments :) That's what it is all about mate, we have a good bunch of people on here.
  6. Yea thats where it came from. I have a lead on some genuine 10" rims. If the price and condition is right i will snag them. Thought I recognized it I would ditch the vogue badges myself, not quite sure what the previous owner was thinking! Shame you weren't looking for wheels on ebay last week, I missed the end of the auction but a set of 5 wheels, including the two 10" rears went for a steal of £143, well miffed I missed the end as I would've bagged them as spares for refurbing. Some guy in liverpool on there is selling some single wheels, sadly the 10" has cracks in it. Something to be carefull of if you are getting some of the 10" rears, it is not uncommon for them to be cracked and therefore not hold the tyre pressure, so be alert when buying them second hand.
  7. I'm not a mk2 owner, but there are some shared components (or very similar) with the mk1. Suspension wear is reasonably common on high milers, so get the bottom ball joints, top wishbone balljoints and bottom arm joints and bushes checked. So are reasonably cheap to sort, others are not. Front and rear brake calipers and slide pins. This is a common issue on almost all Lexus models, they are prone to sticking pistons on the calipers or seized slide pins. Can show itself in a few ways but juddering through the steering wheel from warped discs can be a sign, or excessive heat felt on a single wheel after a long run. ABS brake booster. Not a problem on the mk1, but a common issue on the mk2's so pay extra attention to it as it is expensive if you can't find a breaker who has one. Sometimes they are on ebay but even then are a £1500 item, main dealer is even more extortionate. Display on stereo's are prone to failing I believe on the mk2. Mk2 owners will have to take over and add anymore.
  8. I agree with Patch, certainly looks like a "Sport". I think I saw your one on eBay, is it the one with "Vogue" badges on the doors?
  9. Which mk is your sport? For the Mk1, the differences were TTE 18" Alloy Wheels (with optional 18x10"wide rears) Rear Spoiler Colour coded Mesh Front Grill "Sport" Logo under NSF Fog lamp "Sport" etched effect logo in rear quater lights Lowered Suspension by 25mm all round Can't remember what my Log book says, but bear in mind they didn't leave the factory as a "Sport", they were changed once they reached these shores. So it could be a lottery as far as the log book goes, depend at what point they were registered, i.e. either pre or post mod'ing. Especially if it is the dealer who registers it.
  10. That is a quality job on those arches B) Have to agree, I'm not into the look of stretched tyres myself, much prefer a "proper" sized tyre for the rim, but I guess the arch work would've been much, much greater without the stretched tyres.
  11. They look very smart. Only potential issue I can see, although I'm not familiar with the Mk2 factory rear light, is the location of the reflector. It is a legal requirement I believe to have a reflectors on the rear of the car and the led lights don't look like they have any, so you might have to add some reflectors somewhere?? If someone rear ended the car when it was parked up at night, without reflectors, the insurance might refuse to pay up??
  12. Very nice mate. Seen a few Skylines recently (dare I say they are common ), they are great looking motors. What mods you got planned already?
  13. No problem mate. Good to meet you too. I trust the CD continued to play uninterupted? Pictures came out well B)
  14. When you swapped the passenger and drivers sides over (they were the wrong way round before), did you swap the arms or just the blades? From the pics, it looks like the arms are the wrong way round as there appears to be an overlap in the middle, and it doesn't look like it sits straight either at the bottom. Either that, or one of your arms is wrong.
  15. RoleVB .Net/SQL Programmer/Analyst Contractor. DIY mechanic! What we do Analyst/Programmer/Consultant in VB .Net, Lotus Notes, SQL Server. Any development/business analysis undertaken, especially in the finance sector. Above skills are the key skills but any language/platform would be undertaken. Any car work like servicing, brake servicing considered. Currently on a 3 day a week contract, so two days a week left for other stuff like cars ;) Area - Preferably Hampshire, but anywhere considered dependent on rate Help to members? Probably not a lot but any software development requirements could certainly be catered for. Credit crunch is making the contract market very hard at the moment so any enquiries welcome, for software or vehicle work.
  16. Is there any law regarding the placement of the tax disc? I've seen quite a few MPV type cars with them in the small front side window rather than the windscreen.
  17. It is the biggest cause of disc warping on Toyota/Lexus models. Uneven tightness is the real problem rather than the exact torque. When the disc heats/cools and you have inconsistent tension on the bolt points around the disc, it will bend or warp. Yup, I would whole heartedly agree with this, Lexus/Toyota seem very prone to this, I always re-do all wheel nuts if the car has been anywhere for wheel/tyre/brake work.
  18. Look at your post above, and you will see an options box. Click it and choose standard from the drop down list in the display modes part.
  19. It is bypassable if you are changing the head unit or putting in an aftermarket amp, but using the factory head unit and feeding the head unit outputs to the speakers will give you no sound. I have bypassed the amp (hence why mine is out of the car) as I did an aftermarket head unit install on mine. However, I did not do it using any harnesses, I just chopped and joined what I wanted. If I sold the car, it is too much hassle putting the factory setup back in. Plus, in all lilelyhood, I wouldn't have the factory stuff left anymore.
  20. You may find this useful - http://bananags.grantham-international.com/GS_DIY/STEREO/ Can you confirm which GS300 you have mate, Mk1, Mk2? You will need the correct amp for the year/mk of your GS.
  21. Thanks for that. Mines a Mk1 97 but the sound would seem to be coming from that area. I am wondering if there is a bonnet sensor as I've had the bonnet up for months with the car on trikle charge and wondered if a sensor was sticking open. The bonnet open sensor is built into the bonnet catch as per the diagram for the Mk2.
  22. In that case, You could not use any of the power feeds to the stereo as the switched one is ignition controlled. The cigarette lighter is switched I believe, but again, it is switched by the ignition key. If you truly want it to go on and off with the stereo, you would need to use maybe the switched line for the power antenna, or there maybe a "remote" power on feed to the Amp. Off the top of my head, I think the black wire (pin 5) from the head unit (it may have a white tracer colour on it) is the stereo switched supply to the power antenna. Best to check with a multilmeter first though.
