  1. Sorry for this, but maybe some of you will relate… Since I have been 18 years old, I have been able to upgrade my car every 18 months…

Now with a wife & baby, running two cars – a mortgage and all the rest of the ***** that being responsible brings… Now I am 20 months into my car. I am two months longer in this car than any car before… I love my car, but if the economy had continued to stay healthy, I would be in a 2004 now enjoying all the niceties of it… I am getting a little bored of my 2001. Any suggestions on cheap ways to spruce it up a bit? That car is mint with a 100k miles on it. I love my toys, I love my gadgets. I know every button in my car now and would like to play with the few new buttons in the 2004. Ugh, this recession totally blows… I’m sure I’m not the only spud feeling like this….?

  2. Hi Pete,

    Thanks, that was great advice.

I checked everything and found the most unusual result. Perhaps this will seem obvious to those of you who may know how a touch-screen works, but to someone like me, it was interesting.

All results with all tests were perfect.

What was interesting was that when I touched the screen with my index finger nothing worked, but when I used my middle finger all worked fine.

I would have been pressing 'I Agree' with my index finger and the language buttons with my middle finger, just based on the location of the buttons on the screen.

I have a cut on my index finger that has developed a little bit of tough skin till it heals.

Perhaps this affects it? I cannot think of any other reason why it does not work with my index finger....

  3. Hi,

I am from Ireland and on my 3rd LS. I started with the LS400 and had two of them and 18 months ago moved up to a LS430 year 2001 with premium pack.

I agree with most of the comments made so far.

The LS430 is nicer inside with more modern technology. It is also faster and a lot more fuel efficient. The LS430 is going to cost you the same amount to tax here (almost €1,500) so you may as well have the extra .3 of a litre as it's free...!

I bought my LS430 at 75,000 miles and the dealer did the belts and full 95,000 mile service for me under warranty. It would have cost close to 2k. I now have 100,000 miles up and it drives like new, feels like new and is a novelty to drive every day.

My Dad has the LS460 and I switch between cars often. To be honest, there is not a HUGE difference between the feel of the cars. The do indeed look very different though!

Be smart buying in Ireland, be sure it has a full service history. These beasts do need some care with servicing and also it's worth more to you when you re-sell if it does.

Buy from a dealer with a warranty, as if something does go wrong, it will be expensive.

  4. I had a 1998 black LS400, which I tinted the windows on and chromed the LS400 wheels.

It looked amazing and totally classy.

One day when I was stopped in traffic, it was spotted by a person who loved it so much, they phoned the dealer and told the dealer they wanted the car.

The dealer phoned me, told me what had happened and that the person was going to pay over the odds for it. Hence I traded up to a 2001 LS430 for very little money and this guy got my car which he wanted so much.

The chrome and tint was done by Lexus who made sure it was done with class...

I have not made any changes to the LS430 as I consider it to be perfect as is and any changes takes away from the car rather than add to it.

I miss the old LS400 as it was a serious head turner and always had a crowd around it in parking lots and people taking photo's of it. I kept it immaculate as I do with all my cars. Black is the nicest when it's clean, but it is so so hard to keep clean. It is unlikely I will ever have a black car again for this reason.

I will get a picture of it up here for you.

  5. Hi

Just bought one of these from the states

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...em=180211888934

Took about 30mins to fit to the rear of the radio, ran the wire through the center console to the arm rest box and hey presto 80gb of dodgy old songs to listen to....

Anyway the very best bit is the programmable option to remove the need to agree to drive like a saint before the sat nav will come on, it just shows the screen for 5 seconds and then switches on.... Personally I would have paid the money just to have got that.

The integration works just as it says on the ad and has been faultless up to now, it has not effected the Parrot blue tooth car kit either.

    Pete

That looks amazing, but ouch, it's expensive... I was just thinking today as my CD player went from Disc six back to Disc one again that I either need to make 6 new CD's or finaly get my iPod or N95 connected up properly...

I was also thinking that I would pay someone to get rid of that stupid 'I agree' page... Man that is annoying... What annoys me most is there is NO option to say 'I don't agree'...

Thanks for the info. Was it hard to take the stereo out?

What am I saying, you've already drilled a 5inch hole in your car, I am sure the stereo was no problem to you.

For a paranoid person like me, it would be a MAJOR job to do that! Then I'd be so afraid that I'd have messed with the ABS and VSC that I'd have to take her down to Lexus for a €1,500 service just to ease the mind!!!

    :shifty:

  6. Hi can anyone tell me tell me what the white blotch on ls430 back p/s window is and is there a cheap fix.

Hi, I have it on my LS430 too and have seen it on most pre 2005 LS430's in different parking lots and stuck on traffic.

It's never really botherd me too much.

It looks like a vapour chemical reaction you get from using something like super-glue near glass.

I stuck my easypass tag on with super glue and it left that same white blotch on the windscreen, it's behind the rear-view mirror so I never see it.

    It's a strange one...

  7. Having come through the chain of LS to now be on my 4th Lexus LS which is an LS430 of very early 2001, I can say that the LS430 is more bullet proof in every way than any LS400, it has 100% more features inside and is more fuel efficient too.

I loved my LS400's and would consider then the 3rd finest Luxury car in the world, with the LS460 / LS600 being number 1 and the LS430 being number 2.

My Dad has a LS460 now, so I drive that regulary too.

I have never experienced 'niggley' things with any LS and wouldn't tolerate it either.

Buy one, you will love it.

There's a smugnes that goes with driving an LS that only LS drivers will understand.

  8. Oh and LPG is around 96cents a litre in Ireland

    Pete

Thanks Pete, having done a little bit of homework, there is no service station selling any where near me, meaning the drive to the service station would nullify the benefits.

It cost me €100.00 to fill my tank today, it's heart breaking, especially when all the driving has been done around town and I've only clocked up near 400 miles...

Oh well, I know it is pointless driving a 4.3 litre engine and bitching about the price of petrol.

  9. The government have just announced a 100% increase in the duty payable on LPG as they think it is unfair on everyone else that Pete is saving loads of money by having it on his LS :whistling:

    Steve

I know it will happen soon.... like every time I wash the car it rains....

Is LPG not available in Ireland then????

    Pete

Yes it is but is called Guinness over there! :whistling: Very nice too!

If I knew what LPG is, I might find out if it is available here.

What mileage are you getting Pete?
