  1. For anyone that is considering having a tracker fitted but who doesn't want to go to the expense and trouble of having an "all singing and dancing" one installed, you may wish to consider a cheaper alternative, i.e. the tracking tags that are available from both Apple (called "AirTags") for IOS devices and Samsung ("SmartTags") for Android. These small devices broadcast their location by constantly pinging Apple (or Samsung) devices (e.g. smartphones or tablets) in their vicinity, who in turn relay this location to central servers. The owner of the tag can then view it's location on their smartphone (maybe to within a few houses\streets). Primarily designed for keeping tabs on keys; pets; etc. they can be hidden somewhere in the car to provide a basic tracker solution. Of course I'm not suggesting that they are the perfect option but in the above scenario where the thieves park the car in a location for a day or two before going back to move it on, these tags may just help you find it. And for their relative cheap price (about £25 each) what do you have to lose?
  2. @Franklin As well as taking note of the useful advice given here by other forum members, it may be helpful to learn that you can manually disable the key fob from transmitting signals by pressing and holding down the LOCK button on the fob and at the same time pressing the UNLOCK button twice. The small light on the fob will flash 4 times to indicate that the key has been disabled. Note that this will disable the keyless entry so you will need to use the key fob to subsequently unlock the car. I do this all the time and it soon becomes second nature. I personally trust this method over the faraday pouch option. Plus it helps to conserve the key fob battery.
  3. Very nice. Congratulations! I must admit that I much prefer the Takumi 20" alloys to the 5 spoke gun metal 20" ones that my Premium Plus NX has - mainly because, although I like the design, there is no colour contrast with my Sonic Grey paintwork. Anyone fancy a swap? 😉
  4. I agree wholeheartedly. Take car insurance for example (a hot topic at the moment, on this forum and elsewhere). Most people, when deciding who to insure with, value the cost of the policy over any other aspect of the decision-making process and hope that they never need to discover how well (or not) the cheapest insurer deals with a claim further down the line. I can understand why people do this, especially now for example when times are hard (and there are obviously a fair few people who don't have to make a claim and therefore can justify going with the cheapest quote each year), but I've always believed that the true value of an insurance policy is only revealed when you need to claim on it. However, like you say Bill, this is assuming the differential of service over price isn't too great. As Mark Twain said - "You pays your money and you takes your choice."
  5. No HUD issues for me either. [BTW - I did wonder what had happened with regards to your earlier issue with the creases in the dash]
  6. I know what you mean about the multitude of configurable options. I think the developers wanted to take into account every flavour of head-unit and Android phone/operating system on the market. Do you have "Passthrough" enabled in the Device Settings? This will enable the "vanilla" setting (i.e. with little or no configuration options in play) and which works for me. The only configurable option I employ is the setting to select a particular WiFi channel frequency (165 in my case) as this stopped the device from "dropping out" when I passed by a particular mobile phone tower near my home. If the above advice doesn't help then let me know here and I will screenshot my exact configuration.
  7. There are dongles on the market that can mimic wireless AA if you want to achieve that functionality. There are references to these devices on this forum and elsewhere on the LOC in general (for example, search for "AAWireless"). The AAWireless device works perfectly in my NX350h every time. So well in fact that I doubt that any potential future software upgrade from Lexus to enable wireless AA natively would perform any better.
  8. No phone issues for me using Android Auto. Are you able to elaborate on what problems you are having?
  9. The ship will go to Egypt and then, ultimately, on to England. If it follows the same route that the ship carrying my NX350h sailed then it should look something like this:- Up the Red Sea and then into the Suez Canal. From there it will emerge into the Mediterranean Sea. The next port of call from there will be Livorno in Italy before finally setting sail for Portbury. As @HMT has suggested, keep your eye on the Portbury website for it's schedule of arrivals. Once on land the car will most likely be transported to the Toyota PDI centre at Derby and then onto your dealer. How long it stays at Derby will likely depend on what "extras" they need to add to the car and how busy they are with other PDIs. I would say worst case scenario would be 4 weeks but it might be quicker than that. Your dealer may also need it for a few days too before letting you take delivery. Hope this helps.
  10. Had a strange one with the app this morning. After it had been working fairly well for quite a few weeks I opened the app today and it reported my car's location as 49 miles away in a place I had never been to before in my life, let alone with this car. It should have been reporting it at my home (in the garage). The last trip information was correct however (i.e. it was correctly showing the journey home yesterday). It did concern me enough to force me to get dressed and go down to the garage to check it was still there, which thankfully it was. Like others on here, I've had the app report out of date location information but never some random place miles away.
  11. I haven't experienced this in my NX350h so not sure what might have been occurring for you. If I were you I would monitor it over the next few journeys and see if any of it re-occurs. If it does then it's probably best to refer it to your dealer. With regards to the "Software Update Failed" message - you could try a manual software update via the Infotainment screen Settings and see if there is one available for your system. Might also be worth checking first what the current software version is (again via the same section of the Infotainment settings). I believe that the current version is 1040 (or 1050 if the car came with the latest version already pre-installed prior to delivery).
  12. I am very OCD when it comes to keeping my car clean (just ask my neighbours LOL!). On average I probably clean it about once every two weeks at least. I actually look forward to doing it as I like the car to look it's best plus I find it very therapeutic. I think I caught the bug from my father who had a long association with the motor car (he had been a lorry driver; a bus driver and finally a chauffer). Fortunately I'm still spritely enough to continue doing it without too much stress on my ageing joints - although when doing the wheels I find myself having to bend down in instalments 😄 I dread the day when I can no longer do it myself, at which point I would definitely seek out a mobile valet and detailer.
  13. I received a reply to my email yesterday. I won't recite it verbatim here but here are the salient points:- 1. Lexus are aware that criminals have attempted to gain access by the CANBUS method and have been testing some prototype protective plates and checking the installation of this plate. 2. This testing has been carried out for the RX only. 3. Lexus are not aware of the NX being targeted by thieves using this method and the protection plate will only be made available for the previous generation RX. This is not to say it won't be rolled out across other models and this is certainly a topic in discussion at the moment. Once further information becomes available, this will be shared with the Lexus Centre Network. So good news or bad news - depending on your outlook.
  14. There is another similar thread on the RX forum where owners have also discussed the retrofit of the metal plate to the affected wheel arch area which makes the CANBUS method of theft a lot more difficult. I have just sent an email to Lexus Customer Relations to enquire whether Lexus plan to offer the fitment of the plate to NX owners and, if so, how I can arrange to have it fitted to mine in the first instance. I will await their reply and report back.
  15. I have just sent them an email to enquire as to whether they plan to offer the fitment of the plate to NX owners and, if so, how I can arrange to have it fitted to mine. I will await their reply and report back.
  16. It might be worth posting the car's registration number here (assuming you're not someone who is fearful of putting that out online for all to see) - maybe a member on here previously owned the car and can throw some light on the missing service history. Just a thought.
  17. I don't believe that this is related to your iCloud account. When I (very occasionally) get this prompt I enter the email address and password that I use to login to the MyLexus website (or the Lexus Link app). That seems to cure it. Have you tried that?
  18. I would imagine that Lexus' reply would be that you have two options:- Take delivery of the car now without the locking wheel nuts and accept the risk that the wheels are more vulnerable to being stolen (and absolve Lexus of any responsibility should that happen) Don't take delivery of the car until the wheel nuts have been sourced and are in place If it were me, I would probably choose option 1 - especially bearing in mind that nothing on a car, no matter how well it is secured, is totally theft-proof anymore. Good luck with the RZ - looks a very nice car.
  19. I saw a post in one of the NX groups on Facebook yesterday with a photo of a car transporter purportedly leaving the Derby PDI centre (so I assume on route to the dealerships) loaded up with new NXs and these did not have number plates on them. If the transporter was indeed leaving Derby then this would suggest that the plates don't get fitted until the cars reach the dealer.
  20. With regards to the having the ceramic coating done.... I politely refused the offer from the dealership to do it and went to a professional detailer instead. I'm very OCD when it comes to keeping my car clean and shiny so it was worth the extra cost to me. The coating service offered by the dealer will likely be subcontracted to a third party who, for the price you are paying for it, are not likely to do it in the way that it should be done. Best advice is to go to a qualified professional (with good reviews), however be aware that you are likely to be paying double the £500 that your dealer has quoted. I can thoroughly recommend the detailer who did mine if you are willing to travel to south Essex. Let me know if so and I'll post the details here.
  21. I very occasionally get this error in my NX350h (it has the same Lexus Interface infotainment system in it I believe). To solve this I click on "OK" on the pop-up error message (I think it's "OK" but it might be something else along those lines - I can't remember now) which will take me to a login screen. At this point I enter the email address and password that I use to log in to my MyLexus web account (or the Lexus Link app). Hope this helps.
  22. @Gary H As you are starting to get closer to crunch time with your UX contract, have you considered cancelling your current NX order (if possible and assuming no penalty incurred) and looking elsewhere for the NX? Would you be prepared to travel across the country to source a NX from a different dealer? I still occasionally get emails from my local dealer advertising new NXs that are supposedly available for delivery within a month or two (I assume that these are cancelled orders). Obviously you may have to be slightly flexible on spec and possibly the colour combination. Also you may find some nearly-new, low mileage, used examples across the dealer network.
  23. Are you referring to the settings within the car's Infotainment system? If so then I would suggest that you check the settings for Android Auto (AA) on your phone (you can find these somewhere under the phone's general settings). In these AA settings you will find an option entitled "Start Android Auto automatically". If you want AA to start every time you plug in the phone, ensure that this option is set to "Always". If this option is already set then I'm not sure what the problem might be - sorry.
  24. Keep the faith Ken 😉
  25. I received a similar letter today. Fortunately for me, my local dealer is only 5 miles up the road. Still a nuisance having to find time to fit it in.
