I think that figure (£80 + VAT) is the going rate for 1 hour's labour at Lexus dealers (although the upgrade takes slightly longer than that).
-
I can only assume that they released the TSB "into the wild" a bit prematurely and are now trying to backtrack.
-
I totally agree Phil. And just to add to what you said, they also charge you to download it. How can it not be "official"?

The only drawback I can see with OTA updates is that they are likely to be several GBs of data in size. If, for logistical reasons, owners were unable to connect their car to their home Wi-Fi (e.g. being unable to park close enough to their home due to parking restrictions/availability), and had to rely on their phone's hotspot to connect to the internet - this would have a big impact on their monthly mobile data allowance. If Lexus do go with OTA updates, I would hope that they maintain a "download" portal for owners to do it the old fashioned way. -
1 x 16GB; 2 x 32GB. All SanDisk. Upgrade files were unzipped using WinRAR on Windows 10.

With regards to Lexus Online not working, have you checked that your system is connected to the internet (either by your phone's hotspot or Bluetooth)? The reason I ask is that an early stage of the upgrade wipes all previous system settings, including WiFi. I had this issue following my upgrade and needed to re-establish the WiFi connection to fix it.

Just got back in after successfully updating my system to MM19. Process went smoothly and as described in the TSB notes, albeit a bit nerve-wracking at times . You really need to be on the ball and have prepared well. Now happily running Android Auto with all functions (e.g. audio; steering wheel controls; voice controls; etc.) appearing to be working. Thanks to @pobrown @jbi507 and the other trailblazers for taking the plunge; sharing their experience and giving me the courage to do mine. Disclaimer:- although the upgrade worked OK for me, I'm not encouraging anyone else to do the same. People need to gauge their confidence in the whole process (file collation; USB preparation; installation) before attempting it. Also, there is a report of a failure in another related thread:- -

I see - thanks Phil. Sorry for any misunderstanding on my part. As you say, it will be interesting to see if future map updates can be done directly OTA. -

That's interesting. Was there anything in the 1140 changelog to suggest that it would enable map updates directly? -

Thanks for the prompt reply Phil. Yeah - I did wonder if the extra capacity was maybe due to the upgrade writing some temp files back to the sticks. Probably prudent to ensure that each stick has sufficient capacity for this possibility. -

That's good news Phil. I'll probably do mine over the weekend. Just wondering........ with regards to the 3 USB sticks you used - did you adhere strictly to the capacities of each stick as per the upgrade instructions (i.e. 1 x 8GB; 1 x 16GB and 1 x 32GB)? The reason I ask is that I only have 16GB sticks and since the files for each upgrade phase are all under 16GB I can't see why I can't use these. -
You need to buy a "time slot" (known as Online Subscriptions) on the website before you can access the TSB fully. There are various slots available at various prices. The 1 hour time slot costs roughly £3. There should be a link to these subscriptions on the website homepage. Hope this helps and good luck with the upgrade if you decide to do it.

Hi Phil, Thanks as always for the heads-up on this. You say that it only contains bug/stability fixes rather than major changes. Can you recall what these fixes are please? Or do you have a screenshot of the changelog? I'm just wondering whether it's worth my time applying this update bearing in mind that the upgrade to Apple Carplay and Android Auto is (hopefully 🙏) not too far away. Thanks.

It looks like October at the moment - but could obviously slip again. Lexus UK tweeted the following reply a few days ago to a similar enquiry that an owner posted:- "The Apple CarPlay retrofit was scheduled for May, but as we're sure you know, something pretty major got in the way. Our centres are catching up on all their outstanding servicing work, and the retrofit will be released from October. " So, fingers crossed. -
I recently had my NX serviced at my local Lexus dealer and they suggested an "Air conditioning service and antibacterial cleanse" (which I declined) at a cost of £125. Not sure if this includes a re-gas. Hope this helps.

Not for me I'm afraid.

I had cause to leave my home yesterday (Wednesday) for the first time since the PM's announcement on Monday evening to do some much needed shopping. What struck me was that although the High Street and shops were less busy than usual, most of the people I encountered (in relatively close proximity, e.g. walking towards me on the same pavement) were not conforming to social distancing. At times I had to walk in the road (or cross it) to get round people who seemed totally oblivious of the need to keep a safe distance apart. There were a few people that were complying (and we would exchange a knowing nod as we passed) but not many. Either these people are too thick to understand the concept of social distancing or just don't care. To be honest, I was relieved to get back home.

With the arrival of some spring-like weather over the past few days, I decided to give the car some TLC so had a chance to use the Bouncers Dress To Impress on the tyres. To be honest I found that it didn't do much for the tyre walls but I'm guessing that I probably need to give each tyre a proper clean first before applying the Bouncers (any advice on what product to use to do this would be much appreciated). What I did like about it though is how well it made the the exterior black plastic trim (wheel arches; side skirts; etc.) come up. A very nice deep black finish. And a little bit of it goes a long way. So, overall I'm pleased with the purchase. Thanks again for all the recommendations.

Nav option or use Apple Car Play - help me decide!

For those grappling with the lack of reliable speed camera alerts that can be seen and heard clearly, I can definitely recommend a smartphone App called "TomTom Amigo". https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tomtom.speedcams.android.map [My phone is an Android phone so not sure if there is an Apple version of the App] It uses the phone's GPS location services to emit a warning (either via a simple beep or a more descriptive verbal alert) when approaching a camera. I'm very impressed with it's accuracy and reliability. The warnings can be configured to arrive via the phone's Bluetooth connection to the car, so can be played through the car's speakers. Even when playing audio at the same time, the warnings can be heard clearly. The App can be set to auto-start when a Bluetooth connection to the car is made. It has the option to display as a small widget which can be overlaid on other running apps such as Google Maps; etc. -
Can the mirror cover be removed?
Andy B replied to Habu's topic in Lexus NX300h / NX200t / NX350h / NX450h+ Club
I think you may be right @olliesgrandad After further thought and research, I think I might leave it to the experts 😛 I'll probably live with it until June when the car will go in for a service - unless I have a need to go into the dealers before then (Android Auto retro-fit maybe? 🙏) -

Thanks Peter for your prompt reply. I think I'll get a replacement cover then and try to fit it myself. -

Hi @Habu Can I revive this post please? My NX has recently got a minor stone chip on the RH door mirror. How did you get on with sorting yours in the end? Are the covers easy to remove and replace? I'm thinking of buying a replacement cover and fitting it myself rather than getting the existing one re-painted. Thanks.
