  1. Hi @Bobster21 Just to add to the great advice already provided to you by others, I have had no battery problems with my NX however I am still using it quite regularly during lockdown (I am in a childcare support bubble so am able to travel) so it is getting a good charge. I have however invested in a jump starter power pack just in case (thanks to @Herbie and others for the suggestion and advice). I purchased one very similar to the one detailed in the following topic:- I haven't had cause to use it on my NX but have used it twice already on my partner's car and it worked well. Hope this helps.
  2. A small crumb of comfort for the good guys.... https://www.nottinghamshire.police.uk/news-article/three-arrests-made-after-catalytic-converter-found-car-boot
  3. An interesting video below where a guy in the US tries to discern what's under all that camouflage:-
  4. I hope it's not that much bigger than the current NX. If it won't fit in my garage then I'm going to have to think again with regards to my next car.
  5. With regards to fuel consumption, I have a 2018 facelift NX Luxury and I'm achieving similar figures to what you have quoted for your 2015 model (my MPG varies slightly depending on the season - just under 40 in the winter and just over 40 in the summer). In general, apart from some minor changes that have been referenced in this topic, I wouldn't imagine that you will notice a great deal of difference between your current NX and a slightly newer, facelifted, one. I've never had any issues with the larger satnav screen but, like @pobrown, I have taken advantage of the upgrade to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto that was available to NXs built in 2018 and after. If the screen is indeed a problem for you, you may want to look for a NX that has had the retrofit (or at least is eligible for it). Mine's not a F Sport model so I can't comment on the differences there.
  6. Hi Geoff, apologies if my post has caused any confusion. To start answering your questions - Android Auto (AA) is the Google equivalent of Apple CarPlay (AC) - i.e. maps and navigation; music; message notifications directly on your car's head-unit plus voice activation via the steering wheel control or by saying "Hey Google" - and runs on Android phones. As you are no doubt aware, Lexus only offered AC and AA in some of their models produced from 2018 (with the software retrofit) or new cars from 2020. The device I mentioned is basically an add-on for cars that already have the above functionality and allows users to run AA wirelessly (i.e. no need to plug the smartphone into a USB socket first) so is redundant for any cars that don't have AC or AA already. I believe the device that Eddie refers to is the wireless equivalent for AC so again is of no use to you I'm afraid. In my (albeit limited) research on getting AA or AC functionality in cars where the head-unit cannot be upgraded by the manufacturer, I have found that it's nigh impossible to achieve this without going to the inconvenience and considerable expense of installing either a hardware add-on (which I believe others on here have tried and sounds like you have looked into) or a completely new head-unit. Hope this helps to clear things up.
  7. Hi @Ed659 I'm more than happy to be proven wrong here but I don't believe that this unit will give you the ability to use Android Auto wirelessly in your NX. It seems to me that this unit provides the functionality to run Apple CarPlay (wirelessly) through car head units that are running the Android operating system (there are quite of few of these units, especially in the after-market arena). It even states "Android Auto via cable". Again, happy to be proven wrong here and apologies if I've got the wrong end of the stick as to what you are actually looking for. As far as I know, there isn't anything currently on the market that offers wireless AA for head-units that don't have this capability "out of the box". As I've mentioned before there is however such a unit in development by a well-known and respected software engineer that is likely to be available in Q1 of 2021. The project is being financed via the Indiegogo crowd-funding website and seems to be well advanced in it's progress. Nothing very tangible has come of it yet, aside from the prototype review and initial builds\packaging, but I am confident enough in it's viability for me to have prepaid for one (£63 including P&P) which I hope to have in my hands by late March. Obviously people should weigh up how confident they feel about such "investments" and the project before parting with their hard-earned cash but here's the link for anyone interested:- https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/aawireless/#/ [NB - I have no financial or business interest in this project apart from helping to fund it's development] Hope this helps.
  8. Hi Erik, Welcome to the forum. I would agree with everything that @First_Lexus has said. Sounds like an NX could be a good choice for you based on your requirements. I do a similar commute to you (albeit only 3 days a week) - 50 mile round trip with a mix of motorway and A roads - and am getting an average of 40 MPG (slightly more in the warmer months and less in the colder months). There are videos online showing you how best to drive a hybrid to get the maximum fuel efficiency out of them so take a look at these. The NX is very refined and comfortable and will easily accommodate 2 people in luxury. The boot, although not massive, is big enough for most every day tasks and there's plenty of room in the rear seats for other passengers. The car drives well with the enough ooomph when you need it. Obviously it's not sporty but what SUV really is? Being a Lexus, reliability should not be a problem. I'm not sure if you will find a facelift version of the car (2018 onwards) within your budget but the pre-facelift version is still a very nice car (not much was added on the facelift). Although some motoring journalists complain that the NX is showing it's age, I still think it is a very nice-looking car both inside and out. The only slight quibble I have with the NX is the infotainment system and the touchpad controller. You do get used to the touchpad (and it's nowhere near as bad as the reviews will have you believe) but it takes a while for it to grow on you. The upgrade to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto makes a huge difference of course - but this might not be available on NXs in your price range. I can't comment on towing anything but maybe others on here can. As has been stated, take as long a test drive as the dealer\seller will allow. Hope this helps and good luck.
  9. Thanks Phil - really helpful. I'm not sure if I will go to the bother of doing it as I rarely exit out of Android Auto into the Lexus system now.
  10. In my opinion the benefits of using Waze (or other phone-based navigation apps) over the Lexus system are as previously described by @EvilRacer329, i.e. the frequent map updates; a much nicer layout and use of colours\text, more reliable, up to date, traffic alerts; the ability to set your route before getting in the car; etc. I prefer Google Maps over Waze as I find that Waze has a slightly cartoonish look and feel to it.
  11. Hi Roy, The upgrade that you will be getting next week will give you both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability. Your Samsung phone (being Android) will therefore run Android Auto in your car. As has been stated the Cplay2air device that you have purchased will be incompatible with your phone\Android Auto. At the moment there isn't an Android equivalent of the Cplay2air device (for wireless connectivity) however there is one in development that may come to market in the 1st quarter of next year.
  12. I think you can turn them off. Here's an extract from the user manual (PDF version - page 295). Apologies in advance if I've got the wrong end of the stick here.
  13. ^^ My 2018 NX is a Sonic Titanium and I too believe that it suits the car. I would definitely be amenable to getting that colour again if/when I change the car. I agree with @spacenase in that I don't see it as silver - more a bright grey. It's pretty good at hiding the dirt and only shows it when it's really dirty. As far as stone chips are concerned, the car has one or two minor ones on the front bumper but none so far on the bonnet (famous last words!) - and the majority of my, albeit relatively low mileage, is motorway driving. The only slight change I have made with regards to colour is to swap the (sonic titanium) wing mirror covers for the black ones (F Sport type) as I feel that these contrast well with the rest of the car.
  14. Hi Chris. I am an NX owner with an Android phone using Android Auto (it was recently retrofitted to my 2018 NX) so may be able to help:- 1. I wasn't aware of the ability to run Spotify directly from a SIM card. Are you instead referring to using the SIM card as the mobile data provider rather than using your phone's mobile data plan? If so, then I believe that some of the newer Lexus models come with a Wi-Fi router (anyone please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong here) but I'm not sure exactly what you can use it for. My 2018 NX definitely doesn't have this but it's possible that the next generation of NX (possible production in 2021) may do. I use Spotify (via Android Auto) but any data usage is from my mobile phone. 2. Although a number of in-car head units running Android Auto do offer wireless connectivity, the Lexus ones do not unfortunately so at the moment the phone connection has to be made using a data cable plugged into one of the car's USB ports. And knowing Lexus' track record of implementing cutting edge technology I don't expect they will be offering this functionality anytime soon. Also, at present there aren't any wireless adaptor solutions on the market for Android Auto that will enable your phone to connect wirelessly (unlike some that are available for Apple CarPlay). Having said that, there is a wireless dongle that is currently in pre-production\final design that may well do the job. The project is being funded via the Indiegogo crowd-funding website with deliveries of the unit to the early "investors" sometime in December - so fingers crossed for this. Hope this helps.
  15. Hi @villieb With regards to your point 1 above, I have found that the best way to get AA to auto-start is to connect the phone to the car's USB port before starting the car. Also ensure that "Android Auto" has been selected as the "Preferred service" in the head-unit's settings (under "General" IIRC). I do find that the system tends to deploy the last-used display option (AA or Lexus display) when starting up again, but as I use AA pretty much exclusively now it's not a problem for me.
  16. When I exchanged my first IS250 for the second, newer, one I drove from London to Lexus Stockport to get it. Well worth doing the miles if you find the right car at the right price.
  17. Hi Tom. @NemesisUK is correct - the NX will not tell which tyre has the low pressure - just that it is low. I have invested in an OBD device (in my case a Carista one) and installed a smartphone app called Tire Assistant. The app connects to the OBD device via Bluetooth and can then give you the pressure readings for each tyre. The only downside is that it doesn't tell you by default which tyre is on which corner of the car but with a bit of initial fiddling about (i.e. by slightly over-inflating each tyre in turn and checking the reading) you can ascertain this and save it in the App permanently (don't forget to return the tyres back to their correct pressure afterwards). More information can be found at this topic (thanks to @Thackeray for this):- Hope this helps.
  18. Hi Victor, Welcome to the LOC. This thread may be a good place to start:- You should also take a look at the NX300h forum in general:- https://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/forum/182-lexus-nx300h-nx200t-club/ I drive a 2018 NX300h and absolutely love it. I have no regrets getting it and would definitely consider choosing another one when the time comes.
  19. I agree with this wholeheartedly. My NX is of a similar age to yours and I simply can't fault it. It does everything I need it to do and more. My appreciation of it grows each time I drive it. Mine will be three years old next July - at which point my PCP will come of age - but the only way I'll change it around that time will be if\when a new, facelifted, NX becomes available to upgrade to.
  20. Hi there. Waze doesn't show by default in Android Auto. You need to enable "Developer mode" in the Android Auto settings for it to show in your "launcher". Full instructions can be found here:- https://support.google.com/androidauto/thread/9008705?hl=en Hint:- you don't necessarily need to be sitting in the car with the connection to Android Auto to access the settings. You can this do from anywhere by doing the following:- Go to Settings on your phone scroll down to "Google" and select it Next, select "Device connections" Then select "Android Auto" As the above website says - tap the Version number 10 times to enable Developer mode. Hope this helps. Edit:- you might need to also enable "Unknown sources" (although I didn't in my case). This can be done by selecting the three dots in the top right hand corner of the Settings screen and then selecting "Developer settings". This will take you to the Advanced settings.
  21. I think that figure (£80 + VAT) is the going rate for 1 hour's labour at Lexus dealers (although the upgrade takes slightly longer than that).
  22. I can only assume that they released the TSB "into the wild" a bit prematurely and are now trying to backtrack.
  23. I totally agree Phil. And just to add to what you said, they also charge you to download it. How can it not be "official"?
  24. The only drawback I can see with OTA updates is that they are likely to be several GBs of data in size. If, for logistical reasons, owners were unable to connect their car to their home Wi-Fi (e.g. being unable to park close enough to their home due to parking restrictions/availability), and had to rely on their phone's hotspot to connect to the internet - this would have a big impact on their monthly mobile data allowance. If Lexus do go with OTA updates, I would hope that they maintain a "download" portal for owners to do it the old fashioned way.
