  1. In the spirit of the thread and the forum itself I deleted my post as I felt I was being unduly harsh. You can understand the anger and frustration of people years ago paying out £20K plus for what was a bit of a let down. Lexus were riding high after the IS200...the IS220d was almost a nail in the coffin I feel compared to the opposition and I don't think they recovered whilst BMW and Audi have forged ahead in the mass market stakes. However these things are for sale for £2000......I had no idea about the head gasket issues until someone put me right. I guess they are value for money if you can find one thats been sorted...... best of luck
  2. Is you air button switched to 'outside' ? You aren't recirculating I take it ..? if not, is the car misted up first thing in the morning ( and if so and its happening more often than not) then you must have water incursion somewhere...or are you carrying damp gear..my golf equipment caused this issue.
  3. I looked up the MOT history for my IS200 I sold it a couple of years back after 7 years ownership. There were advisories that never appeared on any MOT certs but were listed online. I'm not sure the system is accurate in anyway whatsover..
  4. I would take your car elsewhere for MOT's in future. I guess his strong advice equated to a potential Christmas bonus or similar. This whole MOT thing is still very slack. My lads car had a string of advisories from last year and I was horrified when he booked it into Halfords for this years MOT expecting the worse. It passed with no advisories.
  5. Whatever you do don't contact your Insurance company unless you have made your mind up to go through them as they will record it as an 'incident' irrespective of blame / claim or anything else. Even if you simply enquire about the cost and don't proceed they will hold it on record and it will effect future premiums. I fully appreciate someone will be along to castigate me and tell me that 'You must inform them blah blah blah...read the small print etc / terms and conditions but hey ho..' That aside my father in law had a similar issue with his new Skoda recently. He used a reputable bodyshop and I was amazed at the job they did and the price wasn't much more than the excess - he didn't go through the Insurance.
  6. They are avoiding paying for it . Yet again hardly a good advert for Lexus warranty.
  7. Exactly what any Lexus or Toyota dealer will tell you unless you google code POA7F. To me that's enough to avoid anything approaching a certain age that's out of main dealer warranty.
  8. I've seen a few threads on here about hybrid battery issues and although there are now Independents doing them cheap, its one of the reasons I went with the IS200t...non hybrid. It probably doesn't matter for company car drivers / 3 year PCP ex changers but for anyone looking for a 'keeper' they will always have that doubt in their mind.
  9. What are the symptoms? It may pay to ask to see the old bearing ..my alleged IS200 bearing failure was actually a build up of rust on the edge of the disc making contact with the back plate...Although it was done at an indie I received a refund.
  10. Shaun...back in 2007 I went down the same road. I wanted a 3 litre and set my heart on an IS300. I almost got it in my head that an IS200 wasn't worthy. I test drove a couple of 300's at dealers and was bloody impressed at the smoothness, the auto etc but was simply priced out of getting one and they were as rare as rocking horse sh@t on the private market. I reluctantly took a IS200 out for a drive and was gobsmacked, loved everything about it and went straight out and got one. Apart from gearbox the car felt pretty similar with that lovely straight six note... If the IS300 is proving to difficult to source, try an IS200 if you haven't already. You will probably get a new, lower mileage specimen. Just a thought and best of luck with your search.
  11. I'm still getting used to it as well but I think it's a great bit of kit. I don't do many miles but the other day it warned me about a big queue on the M25.....like a muppet I completely ignored it only to spend an hour almost static. I decided to nip off at the next junction using the detour option (5 miles) and lo and behold it guided me to my destination. I appreciate many on here must be company car drivers, do mega mileage and know these things inside out but for the average jo it does the job.
  12. Hi...How does this work ? I bought a 65 plate IS200t a few months ago..does it update the sat nav ? If so how long do these updates last cheers
  13. What engine is it ? (note to ones self - read the bloody thread title doh)
  14. £16.5K appears to represent a part ex / trade in price for your car..am i wrong ? A few similar cars at dealers for £18.5K plus ..age and mileage./..even a 2011 at a dealer for £18.5k ..doesn't help your case. I always thought a total loss would be a trade in value as they have no idea of the state of your car when it went 'walkies'....
  15. Interesting. I've just come from an N55 and I wonder if I would have my head so dramatically turned like you have if I took a Nissan Leaf out for a test drive. Car ownership to me is more than something that cost 1p a mile, I put far more miles on my 5 bicycles than my IS200t for example and even my old IS200. I'm fortunate in that I don't need to count the pennies. I want a car that I park up and get tempted to turn around and look at as I walk away, that delivers performance, comfort (to a degree) and reliability. Something that looks decent on my drive and implores me to go out and wax it, open the bonnet, check the levels and pamper it. I'm not sure a Nissan Leaf or a Renault Zoe would ever tick those boxes.... if I wanted super cheap transport It's not that long before I can get my bus pass for gods sake. Being an old bugger I can recall the transition between steam engines to diesel then electric. There is still a massive fondness out there for steam as we all know, not so much diesel but even the old Deltics have a fan club of their own. The idea that you want the combustion engine to disappear just strikes me as odd, so I'm guessing that despite your rhetoric you're not an enthusiast as such, you are simply part of the throwaway generation that bin things the second something new and different comes out..like phones and TV's. I'm not having a dig as my son is the same as you, he is on the Tesla list and is imploring me to test drive one, scoffs at my turbos, straight six engines and promises me that like you I will somehow be morphed into someone I'm basically not.... I just humour him .... Or perhaps you are an enthusiast, someone who marvels at Newtons Law of motion but if you were you would surely encompass all manner of propulsion within reason, however I guess you could argue you are. You are on a winner though as we all know that one day most vehicles will be battery powered or similar. This whole thing reminds me of the stampede for the Prius when it came out, yet nearly 20 years later I've just bought a nearly new 2 litre petrol turbo engine - perhaps its me and I just don't get it, yes that's what it must be. That aside its a great thread (Informative) and I will arrange a test drive of a Nissan leaf as have a dealership down the road. The idea of having one on my drive and plugging the thing is an altogether different prospect....
  16. and yet you're comparing a 400bhp BMW with a Nissan Note...horses for courses.
  17. What will I understand ? The movement from A to B in a certain time, a particular "whirr or whoosh"......... the confused gobsmacking feeling that the thing driving the wifes sowing machine is driving 4 wheels..you know like a tram or a dodgem ...
  18. I was going to post about engine note etc but noby76 sums it up well...even the old IS200 has that satisfying straight six noise.. Going from 0-60 in 5 seconds in an EV vehicle must be about as exciting as getting in a lift and pressing floor 3. At least with an engine when you floor it you have a multitude of experiences, engine note / sound / number of cylinders etc - you know the sort of petrol head thing that many of us like to experience. However each to their own, I think its a really exciting development that is really gathering pace but you simply wont convert everyone..
  19. Simply based on reading multiple threads on this forum over the last 10 years. The OP should be in no doubt if its a warranty job or not without having to worry about "They don't know if my extended warranty will cover it until they strip the car and get the job done " .... Bearing in mind its an £880 job the devil really should be in the detail. Hopefully it will be covered.
  20. Yes, I had one and it was less than Lexus ever quoted me for what might be considered a higher risk car. You simply cannot deny the Mondial warranty is pretty damned good no matter whatever your 'allegiance'. If you pay monthly there is no increased charge once you go over 60k.
  21. This Lexus extended warranty business is becoming a bit of a joke. There is absolutely no reason why a fault like that shouldn't come under a warranty and hopefully it will go your way. Is it any reason the likes of BMW are so popular with their bombproof Mondial warranty, I appreciate its probably well used but its a massive comfort blanket that Lexus appear to be struggling to aspire to.
  22. I would read the CT200 forum right back to year dot and then decide....my guess is that faults are as rare as hens teeth. If you want peace of mind then go for it.
  23. I use an adblock and its running silky smooth on a PC mind....I appreciate phones can be a different matter altogether. The good news for the forum (obviously they rely on ads for revenue) is that I still see ads at the top and bottom of the page that obviously don't interfere with the way it works.
  24. I hate it . My dogs suffer massively this time of year and last night it was like WW3.... and now on a sunday night the day after the cretins are doing it all over again..
