The bloke who refers to the Lexus 2 litre turbo engine as a bucket is cracking me up. The last I heard he hadn't actually driven one and I doubt for a minute they would let him anywhere near one.

Hello mate...Ive just come from a BMW 135i coupe so the IS200t was a downgrade in the performance stakes. However prior to that I had an IS200, simply returned to the fold because I like Lexus and couldnt really justify an ISF as had my sensible head on. A few of us still look enviously at the US and the IS350 as a good go between at a price that doesn't break the bank. Sadly it wont happen.

Cheers Nuke I love the engine and its performance...Sub 7 seconds for 0-60..feels less...its selling in such low numbers its a damned shame that punters loyal to the brand are missing out on affordable Lex with decent performance.

BMW fully endorse supermarket fuel and you will get laughed off a BMW forum nowadays if you suggest otherwise apart from the odd petrol head. How does the sub standard crappy stuff manage to serve the majority of the UK driving population ?

Yes OP means original post or original poster, I've never heard of this alleged 'accepted convention' but there appears little point in using an abbreviation then writing it out in full afterwards as that kind of defeats the object. OP can also be a useful term or abbreviation when a thread is suddenly diverted wildly off topic by a pedant for example and we forget the topic / subject in question .

No one knows the reasons, we can only speculate as to why this sort of thing happens in main dealerships but it does. Servicing departments have their own budgets, they have targets to meet and managers and staff will be under pressure to meet those targets I assume. That aside and more importantly for the OP, unless the dealer can come back with a proper diagnosis then the OP would have lost all trust in that particular dealership.

It used to be common in the trade,. Didn't you accuse me of paranoia when I advised someone to mark their oil filter before a service at a main dealer? You need to fess up pal, this isnt a back street garage (Your words)...its far worse.

Apologies, I see they quoted you the Y section but you also mention a leak on the mid section.

Did they price up for the other "stuff" they found ? I must admit I was surprised they offered to weld the exhaust when the normal Lexus stance is replacement. If they do both welds for £150 I would probably take it unless you know of someone who can do it. I wonder if they ever thought you would jack the beast up and get under it ..obviously not

It's gutting though isnt it....the hunt for an honest main dealer continues. Perhaps Lexus should introduce video recording of these mystery finds , like BMW do..or at least photograph the alleged problem. Things like this actively drive people away from dealership servicing.

Ford Mondeo - kids / boring / family car - mid 90's Renault Clio - For the good lady Vaxhall Vectra - New 2003 heap of crap - will never touch Vauxhall again Mazda 6 - looked nice / brand new 2004 - but a mondeo in disguise Hyundai Getz - New -The Clio blew up and they were literally giving these things away - still going strong now as gave it to my son Lexus IS200 - traded the 6 in for a proper car BMW 135i - mid life crisis - licence survived. Mini Cooper - for the good lady Lexus IS200t - Might be a keeper

You shouldn't have an issue getting the bodywork sorted. They will want your custom for years to come. I've taken cars back to several dealers, Mazda, BMW for example - all put right bodywork issues. With my Lexus I went over it and had the salesman note every minor issue, it was in showroom condition when I collected. What I have noticed is that Lexus have a habit of sticking cars on their forecourts that aren't exactly up to scratch (excuse the pun).

Ask for the printout as well . Make sure it has been into the service department and they have invoiced the sales department for the cost of the service and its all on the computer. Its the only sure fire way of making sure your sales guy didnt simply walk over and borrow the stamp from the other desk I know I'm a cynic,,

I do it all of the time and have done for years to protect the car. Its not a crime and unless the car park is rammed its hardly an inconvenience, its just my bad parking lol If its rammed I park in the nearby deserted B&Q car park and walk to the supermarket. As for online shopping - yep probably my biggest bugbear is Tesco staff blocking the aisles with the collection trolleys as they pick the stuff..catch 22 really.

I'm doing airport parking with API in March They park the car..do I tell them not engage the footbrake.....looks like most people in the US and many on here never use the foot brake under any circumstances anyway with autos

I service our cars. Both my daughters 107 and C1 and my lads Getz, however my wife and I have both purchased new / nearly new so will go to the stealers for the stamps until a certain age when I will then take over. The stealer servicing is helped by a free service plan on one and monthly payments on the other. Please be careful and come to us if they suggest work requires completion. My dear old mum had a call 6 years ago from Toyota that she needed a new gearbox and water pump on her Yaris. This was complete rubbish, neither needed work and its still going strong today (12 years old) . They lost a customer. I can repeat countless similar issues with other dealers over the last 35 years. A decent Independent is worth its weight in gold for stuff that the average DIY'er cant do (perhaps cambelt etc) as a matter of fact I will often throw some minor work their way if I simply don't have time or my back's playing up.

If i was looking to get one of these in a few years time, would an extremely low mileage of 2-3K a year suit the hybrid system ? Often my car will sit there for 4 days and then might do a trip to Tesco...do these cars need regular runs to keep the battery charged or shall I just stick with a full petrol until Lexus eventually go EV. Any low mileage owners out there ?

My wifes Mini wants 40 PSI in her run flats when fully loaded. Just make sure you wear your specs and dont confuse 2.7 Bar with 27 PSI and wonder why the hell those tyre warning lights wont go out

I'm loving my IS200t...In sports mode its everything I need and thats having come from a seriously quick motor. I do mainly town driving - not great mpg but get some impressive figures on a motorway run with cruise control enabled..late 40's no issue. I agree about the noise on start up but it soon settles down. My last two cars have been straight six engines and this feels every bit as refined and smooth, I'm amazed its a 4 pot. My only niggle is the lack of padding on the centre console , where my left knee rests. I think the F sport may have padding - not sure. My last car was a 3 litre turbo BMW and strangely around town the BMW was more economical but not as good on a run...quality wise the Lexus wins hands down I feel.

I'm not sure I would agree. With a car like this and similar type vehicles people like to own for a couple of years and sell on simply to scratch an itch. I did similar with a 135i and have seen the same with M3's etc...most of these vehicles are actually cherished and very well looked after although i will concede that some will be ragged to within an inch of their life. A Full service history and loads of paperwork is far more important.

Hey no worries.Age and a few unpalatable experiences has perhaps given me a more cynical view of some dealerships but don't let that detract from what a great product Lexus is. Car ownership has changed. The majority of dealerships are dealing with lease / PCP and people are changing their cars every 3 years without even opening the bonnet.You can imagine my horror with BMW where I couldn't even check the oil - no dipstick so what's a bloke to do ?! Thankfully I'm back in the fold and old habits die hard. Our new cars have service plans because they are new, Mini and BMW throw them around like confetti with their conditional servicing. My Lexus plan is costing me nearly a grand over 3 years . I service all three of my kids cars so am not adverse to a bit of spannering. I did likewise with the IS200 when it got on a bit, just hate being lied to, ripped off and basically treated like an idiot by some dealers.

It's the Lexus magic dust they spread over it I tell ya
