My 'certain circumstances' as you state, are driving an IS200t on a semi regular basis up the M27 /M3/ A31/M40. The trick is eco mode, cruise control and nothing above 60mph. Please not that I actually own this car and am not basing my opinion like you on a quick stint blasting a courtesy car around the block. For your information at 60-70mph I can average up to 45mpg, at 80 it naturally drops probably due to the turbo cutting in to keep me at those speeds but 40mpg isn't wide of the mark over several hundred miles. If I drive it like I stole it then its 36mpg. The car suffers around town but I've never had anything below 30. I'm not married to this car, I'm looking at an RCF. However I can fully understand now why Lexus launched it as a bit of motorway mileage cruncher with semi decent fuel economy, yet with acceleration when you need it (which the IS250 and IS300h never really had) It really is a jack of all trades and ticks a few boxes the main one being its Lexus.

Today wasn't when I bought my car Linas and trust me at the time the IS200t was cheaper than an IS300h...like for like. I cannot say for IS200t, but I highly doubt your 50MPG @60MPH claim. So why say ?. You are basing your opinion on what exactly ? Dont forget that I own one and trust me I didn't buy it for the economy

An economical run for me is 60mph...and probably the rest of the world. I couldn't get an IS300h cheaper ..like for like.

I believe it has a chain. Unless an IS250 can get nearly 50mpg on a run I'd beg to differ . Add on a sub 7 second 0-60 and 240 odd horses and its actually a very underrated car...luckily I have one

Ring around several dealers as well and get the lowest price in an email. Your nearest dealership will probably match it. As before mine was £995 for two majors and one intermediate. I'm low mileage so wont need plugs until outside of this plan but as you state get them included. At my next major I will present them with an air filter and tell them to bloody fit it.

The worrying thing chaps is that the thing is back in a main dealer......I'd pay to watch the dealer principals face as you hammered out a deal and then presented him with these pics....

I had a new one whilst the mothership went in for a service recently. The build quality / rattling and general ride was reminiscent of a 1984 Mazda... I was disappointed . It wasn't a driving experience in any way, shape or form. It was simply a way to get from A to B cheaply under the guise of a quality marque.

and cyclists At the moment the main threat is Nissan LEAFS driven by the natural customer base who appear to have poor eyesight amongst their armoury.

I'm on a service plan. I rang around several dealerships and my local one matched them. Its £995 I think !! for three years, however that includes 2 major and 1 minor service. You can pay monthly interest free. I don't actually think that's bad value . I fully expect to continue the plan and get the extended warranty . What miffed me was them asking if I wanted a air con service / filter change for £95 on a two year old car with 7k on the clock. The filter issue does get me, filters should be included in a service plan and none of this 'change it when its needed stuff.- just change it. That said I serviced my previous Lexus myself and do likewise with the kids cars, its just that it was bought nearly new at 30% off list price and I argued the toss over a service plan to get even lower. I was in the BMW stable for a few years and their conditional service doesn't sit easy with me. The problem is you cant check the oil as they don't have a dipstick ...

From an IS200t perspective Likes : Reliability - bombproof - its gots to be yeah Twin exhausts - It looks the business It turns heads. Performance - I dropped down to this but its everything I need. Fuel consumption - on a run nearly 50MPG Dislikes: fuel consumption around town - whatever I don't use it enough

Hi Chris I get slight brake squeal on braking in my IS200t but nothing whilst driving....I only have 7K on mine and really hope the sticky caliper Issue hasn't transgressed through the models.

How refreshing that unlike some other forums (BMW) you dont get shot down in flames and told to use the search function as the question has been asked a million times before. Well done LOC I've mixed and matched over the years and never noticed a difference (other than in my wallet) so just go with regular.

Its a shame a car is being judged on a fuel allowance. As a low mileage private cash buyer that doesn't concern me in the slightest but I fully understand how its influenced the car market.

I think we should just all respect each other cars I love reading the various forums, the GS300's the LS400's, the ISF forum and the rest. This morning at my local hospital I was admiring the lines of a beautiful IS250 and later at Tesco a totally unmolested mint 2002 IS300 . ..what a car !

A fair post Shahpor to a certain degree. If taken as a one off then yes I would agree but it hasn't been a one off. The criticism has been consistent since I returned to the fold some 9 months ago and its all been based on a few hours whilst his car had a service allegedly. I rarely post now, the ignore function (which I never used in 10 years) doesn't prevent one from reading this tiresome drivel. Of course we are all entitled to an opinion. I've driven the IS250 in various guises over the years and there's a reason I don't drive one and instead have an IS200t on my drive. You wont find me slating the IS250 to the ninth degree .I'll simply let you IS250 owners crack on with your ownership. If I was in your face constantly about the flaws of an IS250 you might get a bit of a sad on and I wouldn't blame you in the slightest. Of course this doesn't just extend to the IS200t, its the IS300h, RC 200t, RC300h that have been subject to the wrath of said poster even though we now know suspect he or she hasn't set foot in one.. It was mentioned above to simply say something once, not nail the forum month after month with an irrational hatred.

Indeed. After 10 years of forum membership its depressing to log on and read numerous posts over an elongated period (many months) from one person about how crap my car is, despite the far he/ she has never owned one. Not just mine of course but other models. However as long as he's polite he can say what he likes, go figure. This place was always, within reason, a corner to enlighten and enthuse about our Lexus vehicle ownership not slag it off. It was always the case that if you wanted to feel good about your car, log on and feel the warmth....admire it on the drive, go out, clean the thing and drive it. Enthuse in the sheer lack of problems or issues whilst BMW forums drown in coil pack issues and the rest. If that makes me a fan boy so be it. C'est la vie

So you based your IS200t view on having a car for a few hours? Despite having 3 IS250's and the IS200t being able to wipe the floor with them you stick to your view that its an inferior engine yet you want a 'drivers car'.... You previously stated your decision to drive a RC300h was 'retarded' having driven an IS300h which you dont mention above?

I just cannot get my head around someone who makes a so called informed opinion from an alleged 'try' of various Lexus models and then makes a hobby of slating them from here to kingdom come for eternity...on a Lexus forum...for sure pop over to bimmers and slate the brand but within hours they'd be telling him to wind his neck in. Its like a non cycling Guardian reporter riding a 7kg carbon racing bicycle for 5 minutes and stating it hurt his arse and as such is the biggest crock of s@=t as a result Do these dealerships randomly offer up these cars to him as for the life of me if I wanted to test everything he's allegedly drove my local dealer would suss me double quick as a time waster.

I think that's what we've all been waiting for but it wont happen. Like you I'd be on it like a shot despite having just come from the 3 litre N55 BMW. Its all or nothing, Lexus are yet again rolling over and letting Audi and BMW tickle their tummy, patting them on the head and sending them off to bed as the awkward little upstart brother. Is my friend Linus on this thread rejoicing in the demise of the car he admitted he never did get to drive..I guess so.

I've just seen this as been in non internet land . As an IS200t owner this is a real shame for those looking for a decent driving experience who weren't willing to enter the hybrid market or go up to the ISF. I'm talking about IS200 /300 and IS250 owners. However when I bought mine I was aware that only 70 IS200t's had been registered that year and the writing was on the wall. Its a great car, decent performance in sportsmode (sub 7 seconds for 0-60) and fuel economy on a run in the late 40's. The engine is smoother than a smooth thing for a 4 pot and its a real looker with the twin exhaust configuration. I feel lucky to own one.

My only brand new car was a 54 plate Mazda6. ..I'm old school...none of this PCP stuff, this was cash. It quickly dawned on me it was no better than my old Mondeo (they may have shared the same chassis - not sure) My first visit to a Lexus dealership was about 18 months later and it got chopped in for an older IS200.....worlds apart . Many years later with a decent pension or two I shaved £10,000 off the price of an IS200t by getting a 10 month old dealer demo with 1500 miles on the clock. In the Lexus stakes this is still a humble car. Naturally If my financial circumstances were different I wouldn't have done this but I could afford it so I did and I know it will last me a bloody long time with minimal grief.

My wife and one of the daughters have the Mini Cooper with the 1.5 3 cylinder turbo engine and its an absolute cracker... the whole set up is, chassis, performance,flashing dashboard etc However they still love my Lex...different beasts entirely.

Buy what you can afford and enjoy it.
