Thinking about replacing the ISF
doog442 replied to mike m's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
It looks ideal for the school run. -
You can see the figures of how many cars / make model are registered / taxed each year in the UK....google is your friend. Happy to help. Its just faster and more economical- not superior, never said it was. Lexus move on, that's how it is.. Many will question the direction, I'm sure you me and Linus would love to be knocking around in an IS350...
-
The problem is that BMW and Audi moved on after Lexus were lording the IS200....the I250 was left floundering. I trawled numerous dealerships and the answer in every one was that they couldnt get people out of the IS200 and if they did they were jumping ship...these IS250's were stacking up on forecourts.. It basically became a niche car...a lovely car but the opposition had moved on and so did the clientele. I had one for extended periods but I'm a low mileage / private driver who buys in cash . I could never pull the trigger however despite its redeeming features of a 6 pot and Lexus quality the opposition offered so much more. I really dont understand you. One minute your are slagging off Lexus, performance and the lack of an IS350 /the choice you have in the UK and the next you are defending it to the hilt. Make your mind up

IS-F running costs - the truth
doog442 replied to Flytvr's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
Sorry to hear that -
Incorrect...Lexus offer nothing like the list of engine options that BMW do as explained by a fellow poster above. Our choice is extremely limited.A large majority of Lexus owners left the fold when the IS250 came out. It simply wasn't a suitable enough upgrade on the IS200/300 ..so they went elsewhere. There are far more IS200's on the road than IS250's.. make of that what you will despite the latter being the formers successor. The motoring world was changing yet Lexus lost the plot.

I had no idea I was on an invite only section of the forum I simply respond to latest posts with no idea where it takes me. My understanding is that your motor will soon be featuring on Pistonheads shed of the Week....it comes to most of us, so not such a bad thing. When it happened to the IS200 it was time to get rid, like yours that was also very slow lol

FAO: IS250 / 200t owners !!! Help !!

I think the issue is that the Germans do such a vast array of engines to satisfy all needs. Fair play to them but as you state they simply aren't up to Lexus quality or reliability. However if you want a scolded cat of a car ..its there..just go and buy one. When Lexus move on you know a hell of a lot of testing has happened and it isn't a fag packet job -its in all areas.
-
Get the ISF Linas...go on son It would absolutely change the dynamic of this place...and your constant moaning about performance Fair play for sticking with the Marque when you could go N54 (that could keep up with F - for half the price)..my next will hopefully be the RCF once it drops to mid 20's and then we can be F buddies..
-
I disagree Linas . People were still buying IS250's at 20K when the Germans were ripping them up for toilet paper. The IS200 could never compete with the 3 series in the 90's yet half a million were sold and back then people knew damned well how slow they were. You simply fail to understand why people spend serious money on a Lexus. It just isn't all about 0-60. If Lexus thought it was important for their market they would do something about it - they haven't. If someone wants performance they go elsewhere, always have done - when did this ever change ? It sounds to me like you're in the wrong car.
-
But rarely on here. The IS250 forum used to quite a genteel place. Indeed back in the day when people were spending 20 grand on a 6 pot these cars weren't getting ragged from here to kingdom come. Instead people were losing their rag over a dashboard rattle. They never bought the car in expectation of a red light dust up. Obviously things change with time / price / age and the car being available to a wider market. I can understand the defence mechanism but its worth pointing out that people aren't deliberately rocking up on this forum to provoke a response and some of the replies to some less serious posts have been out of order.. If like me you simply look at 'latest posts' and respond then your post may well (as In my case) end up in the deeper darker recesses of the site. That said I'm still intrigued as to how Lexus 'understate performance figures' as posted by @Rebecca and why I've only ever seen this on the IS250 forum. Does this not apply to other models ?

Does it need an Italian tune up ?

The thing is Linas. No one ever pretended the IS200t would be quicker than a sub 7 second 0-60 4 cylinder motor which is massively quicker than anythng you will eek from your barge. Strangely enough before part exing my N55 I did a few test drives and decided that actually the IS200t was just as handy in 95% of cases as the N55 engine it was replacing and significantly quicker than a 250. I also decided in the reliability and looks stakes I would pick it over the BMW and Audi equivalent which quite frankly bore the arse off me. Lexus isn't all about ragging it with kids in ST's and 0-60 figures....you have your car because you like the engine...I like the engine, we all like the engine. Quick is isn't so dont even go there and exaggerate your figures.
-
Yet some folk take great pleasure at slagging the IS200t...a car that should rip the 250 a new one. Its swings and roundabouts. If you cant take it don't dish it out is probably the best way to look at things. The IS250 is far from fast, however its a gorgeous motor. I nearly bought new in 2010 and again in 2014 but by then everything else had blown it away so went to the dark side. I came back but its ISF/ RCF or bust if you want genuine performance from Lexus. Can I also say that these sort of threads go back years. Some people appear to think that the IS200 / IS250 are performance cars....they aren't. Why do a minority of owners think they are simply because they have a 6 pot..

He can still cross that bridge when he comes to it, mine was still solid at 12 years when i got rid. Theres a thread on here somewhere where someone suffered no drone, plenty of options before heading to your local stealership and no reason to get rid of a quality car at 10 years old.
