  1. No new rules .Its always been the case that you shouldn't use your car in a dangerous condition so nothing has changed in relation to the law or rules. They can only advise you not to drive it away (as MOT places always have done in my experience.) The previous MOT is also still valid until date of expiry if you take it in early. However people are confused and I'm in no doubt that some garages will use this to their advantage. That said garages are also at risk of getting numerous cars left / dumped on their premises if they attempted to force the issue.
  2. My lad stuck his 132,000 mile 13 year old shed Hyundai Getz through Halfords for an MOT last year despite my warnings . It sailed through with no advisories. He's going to try the same stunt tomorrow - different Halfords - lets see what happens. He lives away so its out my control but its a cheap and interesting experiment. I recall when I had my IS200 various posters on here taking up Halfords service offers back in the day but like many I tend to avoid. Its a shame really as they are almost a bit of a national institution, sort of like M & S but at least you know what your'e getting with M & S if you get my drift.
  3. Can i ask the current owner why he has decided to sell after a few weeks ownership. cheers
  4. He's saying the front gather less dust. I've never seen that myself on any vehicle I've owned
  5. It appears the oil filter is an element that fits inside a housing so no chance of confirming if that's been changed. I'll pop down tomorrow.
  6. You could be onto something A quick google is showing IS200t as 4.6 compared to 4.5 for IS300h....
  7. Absolutely. The oil should be changed every year according to the service book and they've ticked drain engine oil / replace filter and refill engine oil but as I said above that means little as they ticked hybrid health check as well - best of luck with that one on an IS200t 🙂
  8. Why were they free if you don't mind me asking. I've looked at my previous quotes for service plans. The two more expensive plans did actually include MOTS' but you could argue they weren't free as the differential in price was probably the cost of the MOT's...I dunno I could do with syncing them however, although its not a great issue as my usual MOT chap is round the corner but doesn't do the fancy coffee. 😉
  9. I hate having to check after a main dealer service but can anyone explain why they wouldn't fill it to the maximum mark. Does that also look a bit dirty to you for fully synthetic oil? After the previous two services it was basically transparent although having serviced cars for 35 years I'm aware that running it down the road can alter that. I'm even struggling to locate the oil filter to determine if its new (which is a decent indicator of an oil change having taken place) . I'm feeling slightly cynical as on the service check list they ticked having done a hybrid health check on a non hybrid car
  10. No free MOT with my Lexus plan I'm afraid..unless I've missed something (first MOT next month)
  11. Its hardly difficult. Its the usual method for moving locked cars out of confined spaces or just moving locked cars full stop. The alternative is a chain around your towing eye and a small truck and they may well do it sideways which is quite entertaining. Needless to say I wouldn't want to confront a load of spanners on my return or the alarm might be the only way of locating your pride and joy. Fit a new blade, free re test and job done.....or be a muppet, go elsewhere and pay for a new MOT. I do get the sentiment however and there are plenty of other places who would welcome your business. Finding a trustworthy garage is worth its weight in gold.
  12. Nothing a trolley jack wouldn't sort but you probably wouldn't want to get the free re test done there after that cunning stunt 😉
  13. You initially stated it was a puddle and there was no one else there. You then stated it was two foot deep and other cars were coming behind you. I think the assumption may have been you took a risk on driving through floodwater. My point was that its not beyond the realms of possibility that an Insurance Investigator could read your posts and they will without doubt contact the dealer anyway . I appreciate you had problems with the dealer but you really should be careful about posting about the incident or at least get it straight.
  14. Are they releasing the Lexus toaster ?
  15. Not the sort of thing I would put in the public domain. Admitting to driving through 2 feet of water and expecting to come out the other side like Jesus of Nazareth. 😉
  16. Keeping the revs really high can over come the exhaust issue but when it comes to an air intake you've had it.
  17. You sound a few cans short of a six pack. That has to be the most bizarre post I've read on the internet. You are comparing accidental death to homicide ..and arguing that because one exceeds the other on London public transport terrorism should be treated as a non entity. Lets declare a war against ladders shall we as those bad boys kill more people than terrorists. You've won the internet mate in what must be one of the most least confrontational places I know.. I'm out and if this thread was locked it would save the world from your inane drivel....here's hoping.
  18. and what exactly is the 'daily pressing issue with life' that comes before mass murder of innocent men, women and children Linas .. your need to get you and your old shed from A to B as quickly as possible per chance ?
  19. Of course but not every country has the capacity to invade a foreign power to ensure its future fuel supply.
  20. A nightmare road trip today from Dorset to London (me driving due to a SW train strike) The stress only resolved itself when I parked in a station car park for £2 and then effortlessly made my way around the capital by tube / public transport. I had to sit next to a stranger - not sure how I coped with that😉...oh hang on the same happened on my recent flight to Dubai
  21. Spending money on 'nonsensical 'cycle lanes and pavements ? There comes a point in numerous threads Linas when it becomes obvious you're on a massive wind up . Your VED is just as likely to go on pavements, as it is supporting homeless mothers from Liverpool .Take your'e faux wrath out on them as well 😉
  22. Absolutely agree and am aware of that. My point is actually the concept of public transport against that of the motor vehicle for the future. I previously said I would rather see funding aimed at improving public transport (and subsiding it). Again public transport abroad is impressive in places but I dont use it in the rush hour so cannot compare.
  23. Says me ! Thats based on having a large family, a large circle of friends (obviously not as large as yours) having worked in several large organisations and following a large football team all over the country using the countries expensive rail network. In other words general life experience. Public transport does actually work in my experience and many people would rather take a train into Manchester Piccadilly or Liverpool from Crewe, get off and walk to the shops or work than drive into a city and try and find a car park. Did I say car park ? Have you ever parked in a city close to where people actually want to go , the prices are extortionate , in short supply and that will not change, electric vehicles or not. We cannot magic up parking facilities. Park and ride..heard of that ? Yes you drive and then take a ride into the city using either public or private transport. Private organisations need to make a profit for their shareholders, I thought you supported that sort of stuff 😉. If you want the Government to go back to running the trains then what chance do you give them when you are suggesting they are allegedly incapable of sorting out the road system because they cant channel the traffic from a four lane motorway onto a single carriageway into the next local town.
  24. I'm not sure that warrants going on the MOT, perhaps an advisory on the service report. As for wear I had a service last week at 15116 miles so similar to yours but the car is on Dunlop SP sport Maxx and two years younger. I think both cars weigh about the same, handling may differ as yours is an F Sport. You may find it useful ..or not N/S Front 4.8 4.8 4.8 OS Front 5.1 5.1 5.1 NS Rear 4.9 4.9 4.9 OS Rear 5.2 5.2 5.2
  25. Interested in how they are doing this and whether its something that can be applied to current IS200t engines through an official software update .The engine does suffer from a slight degree of throttle lag (as do many BMW's for that part).
