  1. It has everything to do with it and the law recognises it. You really should try studying the Road Traffic Act and the Highway code Linas. I actually forget how many times I've reminded you of this. As a motorist you should drive to the conditions, not what you 'think' the conditions should be Instead of going off on a tangent and blaming everyone because you were slowed by 45 seconds when getting to work for example. I would give the same advice to every road user including cyclists, tractor drivers, horse riders, BMW , Audi and last of all Lexus drivers 😉..who are course the decent type. Someone mentioned group rides, agree they can be a pain but lets be honest it's probably once a week and I would expect them to afford the same courtesy as I do to motorists. However in the big scheme of things 99% of the population would never even come across them. Toodlepip..clearly its gone off topic..
  2. If you are incapable of driving a car without reasonable consideration for other road users you really shouldn't be driving. That is the law, no ifs, no buts and is totally down to you as the driver of a 1 or 2 ton vehicle capable of causing massive harm .Your manner of driving and acceptance of the road conditions and the hazards you may encounter are absolutely essential. I've never seen 'flawed concept or flawed idea' put down as the cause of death of a cyclist / Horse rider or pedestrian. You should treat every corner as if there's an obstruction on the other side, hence the poster above referring to Police driver training and 'limit point's' . If a road is deemed unsafe for cyclists then they are banned, if not then expect a cyclist to possibly be there or anything else like a broken down vehicle, a tractor or any myriad of things.
  3. Many motorists been wiped out by cyclists lately ? The last thing a cyclist feels is 'smug', more than anything they just want to avoid impatient angry motorists. A road is designed for many road users not just you.
  4. I was correct on the cycle hating UK public. You are getting confused with car hating Councils that fuel the fire for the bicycle hating public. This is based on cycling more miles in the UK than I drive and in direct comparison with the many EU countries I cycle. The average (not all) UK motorist who comes up behind a cyclist either won't know what to do and get flustered / frustrated or simply see a cyclist and think 'I must get by them' and to hell with the consequences. For sure lack of Infrastructure is a big thing but a bicycle is still a vehicle and has every right to be on a road even if a crappy cycle path is still present. 'Lycra lout' is a UK generic term for anyone on two wheels wearing a comfortable item of clothing . Easy to say and accuse when sat in a 1.5 ton steel cage with multiple airbags.
  5. Totally agree about cycling. It really is part of the future along with a suitable public transport system (we can only hope). So in that respect the Netherlands lead the way with Germany / Denmark following, the health benefits of course are fantastic. The issue in the UK is that we have a cycle hating, car loving public with historically poor cycling infrastructure. In our area as soon as any cycle scheme is announced it gets trashed in the press by the same people moaning about the amount of traffic on the roads, you really couldn't make it up. Regarding EV's the Government stand to lose billions in fuel tax so the criticism further up from a previous poster may be a case of catch 22. Damned if you do and damned if you don't. Something needs to change but people historically don't like change. The meat thing is also interesting, I'm not a great red meat eater but the message is certainly getting out there.
  6. I think you're getting mixed up. The EU came out with a directive that all cars produced since 2011 should have daytime running lights fitted. There is however no legislation or law that headlights (or even DLR's) have to be used 24/7 unless under certain circumstances like bad visibility or the hours of darkness, thats for most EU countries and the UK.   7. Image Issue ? I'm all over the F30 and G series forums and these things are very reliable and certainly not a big risk. I think they look great. I've had far better customer service from my BMW dealer than my Lexus dealer(s) but appreciate others have had different. I'm coming up to three years ownership in a B58 3 series and I had one issue, it happened at the same time a guy on here had the same problem with his LC500...a misted headlight..they were probably made in the same factory. If you're buying new reliability really isn't an issue, even beyond three years the warranty is very good value should issues arise.
  8. Its funny you say fridges as I was thinking washing machines. I mean they're electric as well but with more moving parts. In the world of domestic appliances there are certain brands that are known for reliability, Miele for example. I think current standards will remain in the motor Industry with Lexus leading the way in overall reliability. Talking of EV reliability there have been some horror stories in that regard. Tesla for example, someone posted their car had broken down a dozen times. Kia currently have an issue with their EV's catching fire when charging and Audi have had major problems. I've test driven a few EV's and they still rattle and roll, road noise / wind noise etc and were noisier than my straight six. That said the talk is also that many people are jumping straight to EV instead of hybrid and this is where Lexus need to catch up across the range. I still think they'll retain the No 1 spot if people actually have a decent Lexus EV range to choose from, with decent tech / Infotainment as the latter is the way things are going.
  9. I've touched a few BMW's with a barge pole and currently have one that Toyota borrowed the engine from to stick in their most prestige sporty motor (and I don't mean the Yaris GR )...........fancy that That doesn't make me a moron btw, more you for such a sweeping statement.
  10. Reads thread, shakes head ...again All the best with the car @gtanny I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I've owned a Mk 3 IS (and a Mk1 for many years) and they're lovely cars and they do turn heads, even now. Mine was the pure petrol version which has a big following in the US, was a fantastic unit but discontinued here due to the usual emissions stuff so the hybrid was always going to be top dog. You only have to go back through the forum as far as 2013 to see what a solid, reliable car you've purchased...best of luck.
  11. That's been the only semi realistic price I've seen for months so no real surprise it went. Some of the others have been hanging around for an awfully long time so its dealers tapping into the V8 or bust scenario (or just being greedy as mentioned) . I'd find it hard to move on a car that was selling for a similar price 24 months ago as many of the current offering are. Meanwhile the opposition move on.
  12. I can't help but think its where you live that has a massive bearing on Insurance. I'm a little older than you with the same NCB and I was quoted £217 for a 17 plate RCF I nearly purchased recently. Winding voluntary excess to zero its £277. Cheaper than my 6 pot bimmer. I believe (or at least I know) I'm in a low risk area.

Sure you do Few of your mythical countries would have responded to some random bloke with a tracking wand ringing the police and claiming a stolen vehicle 'might' be somewhere 'over there..in that yard and beyond that gate' ....and in one of those units but we have no idea which one. I know this for a fact as we did overseas stuff. That said , this is the beauty of the UK...we do it properly. I'm pretty damned sure if you rented one of those units and the doors were ripped off and the premises searched, your stuff turned upside down you'd be wanting answers....hopefully not on here.
  14. It wasn't the exact location. It was a large complex with a number of independent units. Access was denied by one large gate. The trackers had no idea what unit the car was in until they gained access into the communal yard the following day. You think they drove off for a tea break ? The video explained why a warrant wasn't obtained, naturally that guy on the video was hacked off as he wanted to placate a customer and get some kudos for his company. As for you speeding rants...don't speed..end of.
  15. People who break into or steal cars rarely do it as a one off (the theft of high value vehicles tend to be organised crime but not always). So they can get custodial sentences dependant on their history of offending. The UK police are not 'dysfunctional'. Just do what anyone else does, I've visited far worse places than the UK for policing and crime (many of these in the EU) so make appropriate, common sense crime prevention measures as discussed in this thread.
  16. The laws are perfectly adequate . We have an offence of handling stolen goods that covers some of your criteria, it actually carries a sentence of 14 years, theft is only 7. Then we have TWOC and so on. If its impossible to prosecute car thieves then I must have wasted a career locking them up If you can't see the link between lack of resources, crime figures and priorities then I can't help you. Low Police numbers are everyones concern.
  17. Exactly this. Any call about a car being stolen there or then would be acted upon but only ** if there were units available**. People have little idea about how absolutely run off their feet the Police are nowadays. Police numbers have been decimated and with them went plenty of specialist departments that would ordinarily deal with this sort of thing. All calls are graded and looking at GMP's Incident response policy for example, a crime in progress will instigate an emergency response, so yes you will get a response if your car is being stolen. The next level down is a priority response which means attendance within an hour. So if a stolen vehicle was located and there was a risk of it going missing again Police will attend, again dependant on resources. Many expensive vehicles that are stolen are presumed to have trackers by crooks. As a result they are often driven away and parked up somewhere, the presumption by those stealing the car is that if it does have a tracker it will be recovered by Police within a few hours. If its not recovered they will pop back and take it away again. 'Tracker' the company are excellent, they used to equip Police vehicles with software to track stolen vehicles and plant, as stated most of it was recovered intact parked up whilst they played a waiting game so would recommend them. Some videos have been posted above. As someone who spent the best part of a decade involved in asset tracking, the frustrations are there to see. However expecting Police to rock up without any prior consultation , drop everything, get multiple search warrants for numerous premises (in one vid they had no idea what unit it was in until access was gained via a side gate the next day) is stretching things . Its extremely labour intensive and rarely going to happen at a drop of a hat especially when you look at graded response criteria. There are numerous others issues at play here and without any idea of the process involved in obtaining warrants, the staff required, the risk assessments, plus the paperwork involved in RIPA if you required observations on the premises for example (quite often used to be the case ) then its easy for people to scoff and fully understandable why it rarely goes to plan. I agree with the visible deterrent like a crook lock or similar, I would go as far as having some kind of 'This vehicle is protected by a tracker' type sticker on the vehicle and if it was over a certain price point then certainly a tracker from a named company or otherwise with a facility that you're using so you know its on the move.
  18. Such aggression. Its always Interesting to read why people move on and more importantly what they move into. I can remember the excitement on here when the IS300h first came out. Personally I wouldn't dream of criticising their choice when changing, that isn't the point of the thread but saying his new car looks 'a real mess' , criticise his comment about toys then go on a rant about why it doesn't compare to the IS300h anyway is crass, pure and simple.

  24. Worth going pre reg ? Quite a few on BMW AUC from early £31k with little or no miles and they have some wiggle room on top . The best PCP I can find is £403 down, £403 a month 2.9% APR I believe its BMW Park lane and the Emergency services offer.
