  1. How much for Lexus to do it?!?!?!

I think I'll use the garage I used to go to before I got my IS

Last week, matthew said, he once paid £95 for it. I was quoted £211, so when the guy said £15, I told him he didn,t undertand what I wanted, so I had to speak to his boss so confirmed it.

  2. hi all,

got me tyres aligned just now in Ilford Lane, East London for 15 quid. Yes fifteen quid. I thought they were having a larf so I really had to check shop out. I was shown the machines and stuff cos they could see I was a bit sceptical. They sell tyres and alloys.

Anyway, I know it,s not Lexus but it beats the 211 Quid I was quoted on Friday by Lexus in Grove Park. By my poxy maths, even if I go there for an alignment once a month, it will take 14 months before I catch up with the Lexus quote.

Someone please tell me I cocked up. I actually stopped to ask for directions to a shop where me mate used to align his beemer, till I was told they will do it.

If they had charged around 100, I would have gone straight to Lexus, but 15? I am sure it would be up to 30 quid next week as they could see the disbelieve on me face.Fingers crossed.

  3. you have to de-badge them but it,s basically the same company, same car, if not better. A lexus is a Toyota in a posh frock. Toyota is a well respected brand in Japan that,s why the name was kept. But in Europe, a Toyota is another Corolla to everyone.

For me, once it,s the same car it doesn,t bother me. If you debadge a Soarer, and debadge the SC from America, you will be hard push to tell the difference if you are not a car enthusiast.

Anyway, I have seen a few Soarers debadged as Lexus, but Soarers were not meant for the UK and Euro market so anyone can still tell it,s a Toyota. Unless ofcourse it,s a left hooker from the States.

So my advise will be to take the Toyota badges off and leave it to the imagination of people. Don,t bother with a Lexus badge.

  4. I don,t want to put their name in the NAME and SHAME column but they really take the biscuit. They don,t even offer LOC discount.

Got a bit of time to "shop" around other Lexus garages whilst my cracked bumper is being repaired.

I mate of mine knows a brilliant garage in Ilford where he used to align his beemer. But I really want to use Lexus to align but 211 quid?

  5. have done 41K. Will have to check it in  next week at Croydon then. Scary though.

Thought alignment was checked every 20k service?

Surely that should have been picked up then?

Unless its been thrown wildly out lately.

got me car at 25K and did a service 8K ago but not with Lexus. It was a Jap "specialist" co.

  6. Bonjour Teddy

Where have you been to have 4 Toyos for 500 Euros ?

    @d'taleur

    Bonsoir old boy,

It was in Trier mate. Went to Lexus Bitbourg, but the bloke told me there's nothing wrong with my car, when it was blinding obvious.

Got to shoot off now cos me parking ticket has run out. Just got one for 24 Eur. Back in the UK tomorrow.

  7. "Attention! Remote start systems are designed for fuel injected, automatic transmission vehicles ONLY." counts me out :(

If you live in an area where minus double figures in as consistent as rain in Blighty, and have to scrape ice from yer car daily, plus freezing yer b***ocks off for the first ten mins drive, then you would surely amend yer post.

It shuts off the engine after it's warmed up. Got the Clifford 600 but stupidly didn,t ask for an engine start. I Paid the price this winter. :D :P

  8. hi all,

just got 4 TOYO PRoXES TIS 215/45/17s fitted for 500EUR including fitting, balancing, tracking but still the car's ***** want to dance ballet at 80MPH. It keeps drifting to the right all the time.

The nearest Lexus was 20 miles away and was ina rush so had to get the local garage to fit.

Can it be an alignment problem or a steering problem. It's terrifying.

    help

  9. as I posted earlier today, my RS had been played with a bit in Japan. Check the details on my signature and so has Kavey,s.

I have never driven the "normal" 210BHP RS so can,t say, but it will surely go past 145MPH. The pic is blurred but I really had to raise the car after four months cos it was so low I found it difficult to park in public garages etc. So on you aerodynamics resistance, there,s your answer. Look at the pics. The car is fully kitted out.

But believe me son, I have done it. I probably have to hit the Autobahn from Koblenz to Frankfurt and set a camera in the dash to prove it.

Would you believe it would hit 120MPH in fourth. When the dealer told me they did it on the M20 on the way from the SVA, I didn,t believe it till I tried it out meself. The car is a revver.

Tyre Rs would roar past you at the lights but man on the Mway it,s not that straight forward for them.

  10. I've no doubt about 140. As I mentioned on my previous post I did 220km/h (137) in 5th at which point the engine still has lots remaining. I just ran out of space otherwise I'd have loved to see what she'd do in 6th.

You simple math assumes a linear relationship between bhp and top speeds. Not so. Given that the higher the speed you go, the drag increases by the square of speed. (Read that somewhere). And given higher rolling resistances at higher speeds, you'll need more than a linear increase in bhp to reach the 159mph. In that case you'd need NSX sorts of power, with its lower frontal area aerodynamics and its super efficient gearbox and drive train (transverse mounted mid engine / rear drive has less power loss).

No standard car I know of can hit the rev limiter on top gear. 7750 rpm in 6th? No way. Not unless you change to a lower final drive. (TRD 5.1 final drive anyone?) Standard gearing always makes sure that top gear is for cruising comfort.

    Hi there,

got the same RS200 6MT motor as Kavey , and yes I have hit between 150-155mph and backed off. It's the biz.

Not sure about yer maths but I have done it. I was so busy checking if it was true that I didn't even know which RPM I was in. I don't see the argument here. Just don't mess with the Japs. Well, mine has been played with a bit in Japan, and am sure Kavey's had too. Will let you know when I get the chance to nail it fully to the carpet. It could well be the 157MPH Kavey said.

My boss drives a merc and he had a similar arguement with me. He claimed a four pot normal aspirated motor can't have more than 210 horses. Again, just don't mess with the Japs, full spot.

  11. This is why this site is great. You think your car is f***ed up only to see that it's a common problem with others. It's worse when am reversing up a hill. The shuddering noise the clutch makes, makes it feel like it's about to stall, which is not the case.

When am in 3rd and going round a bend after existing the motorway, it just wobbles. When am moving off in 1st and the steer in full or half lock, the clutch does the same thing.

I had my clutch changed 3 months ago and it's probably worse than the old one with was slipping anyway.

  12. Have P1 racing alloys (were on car when I bought it), but they are almost impossible to maintain. Absolutely sparkling when clean but the white alloys get dirty too quickly and they look a bloody mess. Difficult to clean the inside.

Will probably keep them for the winter months, and use the new ones I get from spring to autumn..

Dont know if the mille miglia's the the correct ones but they would come with the tyres as a package. So I guess if the fit the tyres, and the tyres are the right size, then it shouldn't be a problem. Unless I don't get your question.

  13. Hi all,

I currently have the Bridgestone GRIP11 215/45/17 and they are due for replacement, especially the back.

A guy wants to sell the Mille Miglia Imperia alloys with the tyres, but he can only get the alloys in 225/45/17 and he,s convincing me to go for that instead of the standard 215/45/17.

I know some of you guys have different sizes and profiles in 17s. Does it make that much of a difference in handling as the guy is trying to make me believe?

the 215/45/17 Bridgestones hqve being brilliant , except in the wet. please advise.

PS. Tyre being considered is the TOYO T1-S PROXES.

    Cheers

    T

    hi G?

a pair of carbons for me son. how long is it going to take as me MOT is coming up in 5 weeks.

Had mine replaced but the replacement was crap.

  16. have to consider a CLIO V6 ,although i will neeed some spare boxers and a bog roll as that thing is bliding quick. just too small for such power.

HONDA ACCORD 2.2 TYPE R, SKYLINE R34, IMPREZA WRX.

But the mother of them all has to be the MERC E55 AMG.will consoder that if i won the lottery.

brabus have come up with another one that's even the dog witha whooping 670lb ft of low end torque.

  17. hmmm. If for sheer speed then AUDI over IS.but lexus any day for me. the is 200 will really feel asthmatic in a race with the S3.

last summer, i had the "pleasure" of "racing" an S3 for about 80 miles in belguim. it's got more low end torque than my ALTEZZA, i think (as it stormed past me on the steep Namur hill), but the bloke couldn't hack it in corners and flat out speed. my altezza has been tuned up a bit too and can push past 150mph. that's where he lost the plot.

to make matters interesting we had a 5 series beemer and and a MERC 320. In the end it was left with me and the beemer. hell raising experience though as no one was prepared to duck under 130 mph.

Had a similar experience with a Golf VR6 from the French / belgian border near Lille.

but IS has more class than the S3.

  18. . Also avoid the icy part of the snow if you can. you get better traction on the fresh snow than the hardened bit.

Us Snowboarders are used to looking for the powder lol!!

p.s. No snow in the Midlands until now, gonna go for a play tomorrow :yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:

another snowboarder? work with a few nutcases, who spend a bloody fortune on the damn thing. During last year,s trip there was a risk of alvalanche on our last day, and these nutcases still went up there.

We are off there in a few weeks and I am afraid I am going for the ***** up. Sad, but can,t beat a great ***** up at 4,000m

  19. I'm quite new to this having only had my IS for bout 2 months, but it hasnt got any traction in the snow that just appeared today! Even with the snow button on, wheels spin as soon as you touch the accelerator.

Also any kind of turn makes the tail slide out. Is this normal, is the traction control supposed to do nothing!!

Please help cos I don't wanna end up crashing it!!!

took me 6 hours on a coach from Stanstead to Golders Green last night. snow and chaos everywhere.

If you aint got winter tyres, here,s a good tip cos IS 200s are **** on snow.

Pack the boot with some heavy stuff. even a sand bag. the heavier the backside, the better the traction in these conditions. Use the snow button, but try and pull away in second.

Avoid braking (if you can). Kick down from 3rd to 2nd to first and then brake gently. any heavy stuff then yer arse would be spinning. so kick down well before the junction and you will realise you don,t even need to brake.

avoid sharp steering. switch lanes slowing. Also avoid the icy part of the snow if you can. you get better traction on the fresh snow than the hardened bit.

    good luck.
