  1. Hi Everyone,

i've just bought a 94 LS 400, it's in great condition but a couple of faults have developed.

The first is the power steering--Every 50 miles it starts making a terrible noise the fluid is full of air and needs topping up, i bleed the system moving the wheels from side to side and top it up, 50 miles later same thing happens. I cannot find a leak!

The second fault may be more serious--when it is started from cold it emmits a large amount of blue petrol smelling smoke, this lasts for about 10 secs then clears. the same thing happens from warm. The oil level is over maximum could this be the cause?

    Any advise would be appreciated.

Sounds like you have a faulty vacuum valve (located on the PSteering pump).

If that valve fails, power steering fluid gets sucked

into the engine's intake manifold and will cause

your engine to smoke. Install a new vacuum valve

    on the PS Pump.

  2. hi mate, try this link, its probably not the only place but the prices seem ok and they do ship to the uk and sell the air shocks if you wanted to go that route, does your compressor work at all or is it the shocks thats knacked !!!! Ian

Thanks for the quick reply - will certainly check them - very grateful. :D

The suspension has never worked since I got it. The green normal light on the dash flashes. The air suspension leaks and lets itself down after a few days. I had a switch fitted under the bonnett to pump them up when they go flat so the compressor seems to work. However, even when pumped up it bounces everywhere. There is a switch in the boot within the tool encave on the side, this was switched to off when I got it - I understand this switch is related to the suspension and used when the car is jacked off the floor. Have never been able to find out what the flashing light is about.

Its a real shame as the engine is awesome. Am a bit stuck as it difficult to sell on/trade for a newer one as it has this awful suspension problem. I dont seem to be able to convince a Lexus dealer to look at it as its an import.

Even with this problem, I still want another - a great car and it amazes me how the temp gauge always stays in the same place no matter how long I sit in hot traffic - maybe it doesnt work :P

THE COOLING SYSTEM IS JUST THAT EFFICIENT.

  3. :shutit: HELP! CAN ANY ONE GIVE ME ADVICE AS TO WHY MY 94 LS400 STARTS TO VIBRATE AT SPEEDS OVER 50? AS I DONT FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY CAR WITH MY FAMILY IN GOOD ADVICE WOULD BE WELCOME AS I AM GETTING A BIT WORRIED CHEERS

Check for any clunking sounds during deceleration and while placing the car in REVERSE. This could be a sign that you have faulty u-joint(s).

There are several things that can cause the Lexus to vibrate at 50.
