Definately something wrong there......I have a GS300 MKIII....last week I did 140 miles through yorkshire then back down the A1 at 85 and still got 37.1 MPG!!!!....and thats a petrol!!!!
-
Operative Words being "If your sensors are on".........will always check in future!!
-
Another thing bugging me regards the new GS is the Headlights appear to be pretty useless....OK on full beam but not dipped.
I notice that on the american forums this is an issue, and many folk have adjusted their headlights themselves ...(apparently the dealers are reluctant to do it for safety reasons)....
Anyone tried this....is it a simple operation?
rgds Tony.

The Sensors only work if you switch them on, I think it is so you can turn them off in certain situations, sometimes I do when "Q"ing in traffic and am a little to close to the person in front.....beepbeepbeep.
The Reverse camera still comes on but sadly I was in a dimly lit Multistory so only got a great view of the barrier after I hit it. Life goes on........

Lesson Learn't Yesterday!!!
Always rely on my sensors and rear parking screen.....
Reversing into a space yesterday in car park....sadly quite a few people about admiring my wheels....
reversing......waiting for the initial beeps.....still reversing.......BANG!!!
Must have turned off the sensors by accident
....Note to self......always ensure sensors switched on before reversing
Good News......pretty much polished out

My 1999 Sport didn't have an engine cover dude!
But then I don't know wether it should have or not!! Ran well for 2 years without though :-)

Just thought I would make a few observations after my first long weekend away in the Lakes with my new"ish" Car.
Just wanted to see if my observations concurred with others, and wether any of my niggles can perhaps be remedied.
GOOD STUFF:-
1:Faster Car than the Old MKII :)
2:Even more bells and whistles to play with
3:ML Sound system is fantastic ;)
4:Much better handling than previous model
5:MPG amazing (140 miles from west Yorks to A1...then A1....driving with gusto, aircon on 37.1 MPG) :o
NOT SO GOOD STUFF:-
1: The B****Y rattles and creaks :tsktsk:
(Have sorted out the most anoying by stuffing felt between dash and windscreen, on rough roads my door makes noises...like it's moving about) Also the Drivers seat creaks alot when cornering!!!
2: Gearbox not as smooth as previous
Basicly if the rattles and creaks would disapear it would be a super car......anyone had similar issues and remedied them without taking to see Mr Lexus?
Rgds, Tony.

Cheers Dave,
That should stop the strange noise
:duh:

I have a GS300 05 Plate I purchased a couple of months ago,
my tyres skip/trip when on full lock.....(when Cold)....
the muppet who had my car previous did fit cheap rubber to the front mind you.

I have had on loan both the is Diesel and then the IS250 Auto (paddleshift)
At the time I owned a 1999 GS300 Sport (best car i've ever had)
The IS220 diesel is awful.........not at all lexus like......anybody who first gets introduced to the Lexus brand with one of these will be VERy disapointed. Horrid Gearbox......quirky handling.
Then I had an IS250, super smooth gearbox, good handling (i think it had larger boots than the diesel) and all the toys.
for me all IS's are too small....I now own a 2005 GS300 SE-L..........worth a look, filled up in Swindon last weekend.....drove around town 20miles then traveled back to north Notts.....Ave 35 MPG. (prev GS 26 mpg at best)
I have come to the conclusion however that the Latest Lexus models don't have the same build quality and feel as the previous models.........shame really. Big Sway for me is the Excellent Lexus Custard Service.
-
I agree with you JCC.
I traded in a 1999 GS Sport. Felt like you were driving a fine quality car.......Sadly missed.
I Have had the new GS for a week or so.....and although a good car....it's doesn't seem to be up to the old Lexus Standards......could almost be similar to driving a top of the range ford or vauxhall!!!!
I think my next move will be to either BMW or Mercedes.....I wonder if Lexus would be happy to service one of these for me?

I am talking Creaking rather than rattles.
.....and it is more noticed when it is cold.
I see that many of our American chums are resorting to fixing the problem themselves by inserting
various materials between the windscreen and dash. (see U.S Forums)
I still think it's more than a joke that this should be happening on 3rd generation Lexi.....
......apart from that.........It is a cracking Car

Hi ALL<
Recently upgraded from a Mark 2 GS300 Sport to a 2005 M3 GS300 se-l.
My 9 year old gs didn't have a rattle or a squeak!!
My new GS rattles like a guddon. Noise is coming from the passenger side top dash area.
Have been on the USA Forum and there are huge threads of people who seem to have the same issue, many saying it has something to do with the "white windscreen clips".
My car is out of warranty so if anyone has any suggestions on how to irradicate this rattle, I would be most greatful.
In pursuit of perfection?!?!?!-------o dear

:D
Nice one Alan,
Took me 10 Seconds and now my roof works a treat.
Happy Days. Which model dod you buy? I just bought mine too. 2005 SE-L 67k £12995. Bargain i Thought!
Thanks Again. rgds Tony.

Hi got a 2005 GS.
The sunroof opens and closes, but not as it should.
Basically any button will slide the roof back as well as tilt it, and it doesn't have the one touch open close facility.
The manual suggests that if the Battery has been disconnected then it maybe nessecary to carry out a reset. Tried this,,no joy.
Any other ideas before I drop by Mr Lexus's house.
Rgds, Tony.

Thats a V------1999 plate by the way!

Just bought a 2005 (new shape) GS-300 SE-L. Black with cream interior. 67,000 miles £12,995
Not a bad Price I didn't think!
How much do u reckon they offered as trade in price for my Lexus GS300 Sport Navigator 120K
(FLSH Superb cond etc)
Picking up later next week........Looks like New!!! Happy days.
-
Sadly Yes....
New Caliper on the Nearside!!!!
-
Driving home the other night and a BIG BANG from nearside of car!!!!
Next Much Squeaking and Rattling From Rear Wheel
Needed new rear caliper and bits due to damage!!!
....Cause?.......>>in each rear brake assembly there is a 2inch metal strip which holds back the Handbrake cable inside the assembly......this dislodged (corroded), spun around the assembly and knackered the whole issue!!!!......
....This may be the cause!!!
However it provided a great excuse to visit lexus-----never has being relieved of cash been so much fun. (had new GS for a few Days :-) )

It all depends on how many miles you do.....LPG conversions cost the best part of £2k.
I am in the same situ.......as much as I adore the Lexus brand, Cust service etc....am still looking at the latest model BMW 5 series 3.0d.....faster than the GS 3.0 petrol but much better MPG......u can pick up a 53 plate for about 12k................
I would have considered the IS Diesel.....but it's not a very nice car.....gearbox is not good.

Thanku for your replies,
Have found that Vauxhall Stardust Silver is pretty much an exact match.
Are there any issues with using normal bodywork paint on alloy's---surely if a laquer is applied after it should be OK.
Rgds,Tony.
-
Hi Folks,
Am planning to spray my wheels up to tidy......however have found that the cans of silver alloy paint available locally is a darker shade of silver.
Does anyone know of a company that supplies Alloy Paint in a can that will match.
Rgds, Tony.

I must admit I am rather impressed with the mpg on a long journey.
The other month I averaged 37.1 MPG over 140 miles of mixed driving through yorkshire and then A1.
............................
By the way, is it normal when the brakes need replacing, for the back end to rattle like a gud'n over bumpy surfaces......think it maybe the shoes rattling in the calipers.......![](//www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png)
