I would purchase through Toyota or Lexus dealer. My personal choice I know but does not half give me peace of mind. -
Hi Phil I agree with you. I use an independent to work on my car. I insist on Oem parts which he buys. In his experience, that is his preference because he knows they will fit, plus as you say if anything goes wrong you have a warranty. You can get everything cheaper if you look!! , but not always best solution, Rgds, Roger

White Ls

I have a pearlescent white 52 plate LS 430. Apart from the obvious ribbing I get for it being like a wedding car, I find it very easy to keep clean and it looks amazing when just polished. My wife has a black Honda CRV, which although very easy to wash, seems to look dirty. -
Ls 430

Congrats on your purchase. Had mine now 19 months, had 59k on clock when I bought it, now done 74k. Apart from servicing, and same as you replaced waterpump and cambelt straightaway, the only failure has been a wheel bearing. The ride is just incredible for such an old car, which was way ahead if its time. It somehow feels like it will go forever......I hope so!! Going to put a new rad on next service, so avoid gearbox oil contamination. Enjoy your wonderful purchase like the rest of us. Rgds, Roger -
That is correct it does not affect your no claim bonus. However what is does do is affect your renewal premium, so they will recover it one way or another. For me it is more cost effective to pay, plus I want to know who does it, will do it properly , rather than leaving up to the insurance company.

Buying Advice
RgrWynne replied to Edus Amedda's topic in LS 400 / Lexus LS 430 / Lexus LS 460 / Lexus 600h / Lexus 500h Club
Hi James, to be honest whichever model you buy, it will probably depend on how well it has been looked after. The previous owner of mine bought a high mileage but chauffeur driven LS460 in the belief that it would be ok. It came with a full 12 months MOT from a Midlands garage. He had bought from an, as it transpired, reputable dealer, because the first thing he did was MOT it again to find quite a few thousand £s worth of suspension problems and an MOT failure. The dealer paid for remedial work. The one you are looking at is a one owner, and if it has full Lexus Service History, get it checked but could be a good buy. I also think that the gearbox oil contamination and cambelt change are not enough to put me off a good LS 430 if one comes along. They are relatively inexpensive to prevent, I will fit a new rad next year. Rgds and good luck, Roger -
Buying Advice

I think that car enjoyment can be a very selective thing. I liked the almost retro feel to my LS430 versus the more modern LS 460 which I think is a fabulous car by the way. The previous owner did not like the ride or the gearbox, versus mine, but of course it is very subjective. These vehicles are over engineered and run in a very de stressed state, which is why they go forever. They are also extremely forgiving, as I sold 2 previous GS 300's that I had done over 100.000 miles in, to a business partner. He never looks after them, or has them serviced properly, and they just keep going. To be honest I could cry when I see the condition, but on they go. -
Buying Advice

Hi All, I purchased a 2002 LS 430 over 13 months ago. It had 58000 miles on the clock, having done 15000 miles in the previous 8 years with the same owner. It did not have proper regular servicing, but did have oil changes etc. It looked immaculate in pearlescent white, but had in fact been standing outside on the owners drive in all weathers. I paid £5k which I thought was about right and everything worked, and still works. I immediately had a full service with an independant I know and trust , but who is Merc trained. I had cambelt, iridium plugs and everything done, total cost £850. Since that time, the vehicle has been brilliant and I just love it to bits. I have now done 70300 miles, with a new wheel bearing and battery last year. She runs like a dream. The MOT passed with no advisories 2 weeks ago. There is no rust or anything at all that does not work. The previous owner bought a 460, and I rang him after one year to tell him that the car was as he told me. He said he wished that he had kept it and does not like his 460 as much. I intend to keep this car for a long time and enjoy luxury. Hope this helps. -
I went to London the other day with a business colleague , then on to Portsmouth. We did 633 miles in the day sharing the driving of my LS 430 2002 with 70k miles on the clock. I just had to try the rear seats and be driven ! It was wonderful, with reclining seats and adjustable massage control. It was a very comfortable experience for very little cost. Over the whole journey and we were not hanging about, my 72 year old colleague was a racing driver in his youth, we got 29.8 to the gallon , which I think is fantastic.

Just come back from holiday in USA . Flew into Los Angleses then up Pacific Highway to Oregon. I have never seen so many Lexus's. Every other car seemed to be a Lexus of some type, and there are literally hundreds of mainly LS 400's, obviously in daily use. They are a massively popular car over there and you can see they were obviously built for the American market. It was a delight to experience.

Hi guys. Bought my 2002 LS 430 Premium Pack in July. It had only done 59000 miles and in excellent condition. I always use Lexus Original Parts, and try to follow the service recommendations. On checking the handbook there was a reference to the above for the front seats. It said that to use the functions without changing the filters or without filters could reduce the component life. I found where the filters were housed and no surprise there were no filters, so t thought I would get some. I phoned Chester Lexus and I could tell during my conversation that they didn't really understand what I was talking about. Eventually they said that having spoken to their longest serving mechanic they had never even seen the filters, or changed any. If I wanted to buy 2 , they would cost £71 each. I declined!! Anybody any views? Thanks, Roger
