  1. I do not think the reference is an individual to buy for £500, it is it’s breaker value for scrap, or as Malc says Paul Frost , for parts, but I think Paul tends to break up 430’s
  2. Testing, testing… I have a 1999 Lexus LS400 with 175,000 miles. It’s not perfect and needs a couple of small things doing to pass its next MoT so I am trying to decide whether to get it through the MoT before selling. What is it likely to be worth with and without a certificate? DS With an MoT you’re looking at £2,500 to £5,000 – and one chancer is asking £9,995. Without an MoT, it’s £500 tops for the parts.
  3. Well done Stuart, was all worth it in the end.....roll on another year. Rgds, Roger
  4. Hi Phill, as a result of your comment my LS 430 not going anywhere soon. Drove it for 200 miles on a return trip yesterday, and it is just “brilliant”. Decided to go ahead and change wife’s car for an RX450H in September, which will probably mean less miles on LS, but at least I will still have it to enjoy , although having been out in the latest RX 450 h premium, it is pretty damm good. Thanks anyway, Roger
  5. I believe that 2 year extended warranty for £800 is a bargain. If you want any sort of comparison, try the outside warranty companies, who also come with “ small print exclusions “ I have an ext’d warranty on my wife’s Honda, which like Lexus has a brilliant reputation, and recently had an alternator fail, cost was £750 , including new drive belt £86. I know that it could be done in a much cheaper way independently, and of course the Honda dealer like Lexus will quote. “full ” price, which they don’t actually pay, but given that I really am not bothered and when I sell the car, the buyer has the piece of mind that the job has been done properly, with a guarantee. The Honda warranty was £750 for 3 years, but of course the Lexus range are more complex. That is my view anyway.
  6. Phil I don’t think the objective is to get “too cold “ . I checked mine after my post, and the surface temp of the seat is cool. It does not cool me, the aircon does that. As I said , having completed over 3000 miles in Spanish heat last year I certainly appreciated having them, but it was more a case of understated comfort rather than feeling a chill......if you get my drift. That was my experience anyway. But I have a more pressing problem that my wife wants to buy an RX450H, both my children have them, and the new Premier is just wonderful.........but do I sell my beloved LS. The person I bought it from is desperate to buy it back, so have a willing buyer.....or do I just keep it but end up using it occasionally, which as Malc has said is not what these cars are for, and with which I agree. Hard decisions!!!
  7. I cannot agree with the above comments. Last year I travelled right across Spain with temperatures far higher than that experienced here now, over 38 degrees constant, and my cooling seats were brilliant. The whole seat was very cool and made for an exeptionally comfortable journey. At that stage I was unaware of seat filters and have only just cleaned them out.
  8. Lower control arm, part of front suspension, it is the rubber bushes that fail. I was being over negative as all was well.
  9. Great news and great cars, Norman. I was comparing against other cars. I do know they are brilliant, on my 3rd Lexus and circa 300,000 miles over the years. Cheers, Roger
  10. Hi Paul , whilst I do agree with you, remember we are talking about a 16 year old car!! Roger
  11. Well that time of year again and although I have no need , I always view this time with anguish. Well glad to report flew through again, no advisories, for the 4th time on the trot. 92000 miles now and took the opportunity to look underneath, and all looking good. My only concern after reading the threads on here was the LCA, so I asked him to check and they were absolutely fine. Roll on next year, cheers, Roger
  12. I have had dealings with Paul and I agree with the previous description of him. In fact my LS430 is in Darwin next week for service and mot.
  13. Really sorry to hear of your predicament and hope you get sorted, cheers, Roger
  14. & I would agree that at the first sign of corrosion to change the rad. I think the problem is , is that the corrosion is internal and not visible, and therefore prevention at a set time is probably wise. From Lexus dealers point of view this is very rare, but from reading on this forum you would not think so. I took the view to change, and there was no sign of any corrosion at all after 16 years. Having said that it gives me peace of mind and I am glad I did, and it would appear my Lexus OEM part was a bargain. Cheers, Roger
  15. Just had word from the specialist: car is all back together and the transmission is fine - "drives beautifully". Assuming it holds up I've dodged a bullet there I reckon. Or should I say it's just a flesh wound :) Really pleased for you, have many more miles of happy motoring, Cheers, Roger
  16. Agree, thank you for giving us an alternative. I could not see what the cost was.
  17. If the gearbox has survived, and works ok, and a new radiator is fitted, why would you need to fit an additional cooler. I did take the precaution of replacing my rad, a year or so ago, with an OEM purchased from a Lexus dealer, and fitted by my Independant. I think the cost was £280ish. I had no trouble before, and obviously hope to not have any in future. That included a 1000 mile trip across Spain with temperatures in the high 30’s and never had any over heating. There was no evidence of corrosion in my old rad at all. I do think that unless you know the full service history, and that the anti freeze has been changed as per that service schedule, it is sensible as a precaution to replace the radiator. Wish you luck with decision, Rgds, Roger
  18. Peter, thank you for that, all done and cleaned out filters. Much appreciated
  19. Amazing thread, thank you for that. One question, how do you access the seat filters, which incidentally I have been quoted £70 to replace at Chester Lexus in the past.
  20. Paul Frost is Lexussparesdirect, I have dealt with him. Found him very honest and straightforward and would recommend him.
  21. Hi Alex, Paul Frost at Lexussparesdirect, known on here stocks new replacement subs. I bought one from him and he also fitted it. I’m sure he will have second hand door speakers in working order if that is your problem. Give him a call and good luck, Rgds, Roger
  22. Hi Alex so pleased you bit the bullet and it is all working well for you. Mine continues to perform well with no problems, Rgds, Roger
  23. I always used autoglym, I think their products are excellent. However I purchased, Soft99 Fusso coat Light PTFE Car Wax, from eBay and I have to say it is far superior and lasting, just brilliant. Where the autoglym product would now need re applying, my Lexus is parked outside all the time, the Fusso is still beading and water and dirt just run off and it is so easy to wash............just my experience.
