  1. The good thing is that whilst rust coming through is annoying, it is relatively easily fixed, as Malc said not bad for 15 years old, and generally there are not too many major issues to deal with. If yours is mechanically sound, just deal with these issues and enjoy. That is what I have decided to do. I get more comments about how good a ride, from friends, than any other car I have ever owned.
  2. Have a look at post on Jan 15th by Katana 92 covering this subject. I always bought Toyota / Lexus original battery, but it did not last. Replaced recently through Tanya batteries , Enduroline 072, perfect fit, was £79.95. Love your car, should last another 10 years, Rgds, Roger
  3. This happened to a friend with a GS 300. He lives in France but returns each year for mot, and does not do a high mileage. I advised him to run the car on Bp ultimate or shell v power for a couple of hundred miles before the mot. Result, 4 years later the car still passes the mot each year with nothing else done, although each time his emissions worsen. Still it passed.
  4. Hurrah, just enjoy 😊 , and remember what you have just written, Rgds, Roger
  5. Hi Graham, you are quite right, the air struts can be renewed singly, however I understand the recommendation from Lexus is that they should be done in pairs. I think that you only hear about the ones that fail, which tends to amplify the problem. Cheers, Roger
  6. Just to put your mind at rest I replaced my battery with an 072 lead acid, not from Halfords but obviously the same recommended spec. Not had any problems, apart from running down because of lack of use in winter !! It is not expensive to put a code reader on to check, I wouldn’t have thought. As Colin Barber says usually oxygen sensors. Good luck.
  7. Jon, find myself with same dilemma, but having sorted most of the future problems, radiator, air con pipes, all new brakes, discs, tyres, sub woofer etc. etc, I came to the conclusion that I would be driving another Lexus, at some point having to do the same. I do about 7k miles per year, so mine should continue now for a decent time without further large outlay....... but it is very tempting, for not really a large cost to change. I think I am too attached to mine, but plan in future to change for an LC 500, the last V8 probably to be made, when the prices become more sensible. I think in your situation I would go with my heart , good luck Roger
  8. Thanks Phil, that does make sense. It is just that I always insist on tyre depots torquing to manufacturers specs which I check. Having said that I have not had to use the supplied wheel brace, thank goodness......Sod’s law I now get a puncture, Rgds, Roger
  9. So you don’t forget, the wheel nuts should be torqued to the manufacturers spec, for which you will need a torque wrench, this might remind you.
  10. I have looked seriously into converting, but it just is not a viable option, and would take too long to pay back, before seeing any saving. Apart from the cost of conversion , it does bring restrictions on Euro Tunnel, which I use, plus the other items already stated. I am not against conversion, and if you have one already converted then happy days, and good luck to you, but not for me.
  11. The yanks have had the advantage of cheap fuel over the years as do The Gulf States, so big market for gaz guzzlers, but sadly not here. All these large engines will ultimately become a thing of the past.
  12. They are extensively available in Middle East, particularly Qatar.....two a penny !!
  13. No temp tourists aren’t , only if you need Spanish plates and an ITV ( mot). Agree with John, don’t mess with Guarda Civil
  14. Hi Bob that is really interesting. Will have a look at mine thanks, here’s, Roger
  15. I would just echo what John has said. The Spanish ITV is very thorough on headlights and if it is that you need left hand drive lamps , that is what you will need. There are companies on the web who supply, but they are expensive. Maybe Spanish breakers could have them ?
  16. I use rain x, find it excellent, don’t need to use wipers at high speed , but as stated not a glass cleaner. Cheers, Roger
  17. Do those items first, which in any event will give peace of mind. Don’t worry about the air suspension, most do not fail and just enjoy !!!!!!!!
  18. I remember reading that the nature of driving in USA is longer distances, therefore less stop/start. This was given as the reason the service intervals etc. are, different. Not my opinion , just something I read. Roger
  19. I do think that any issue connected to LS430’s and LS460’s has to been viewed in context. If you compare these cars to any other luxury car of the same vintage and cost to purchase, Merc’s, BMW, VW, JAG the actual maintenance cost of the Lexus is minor in comparison. If it means changing the radiator, after a considerable number of years, which I have done, is probably the only major outlay to give peace of mind, then I think that this is ‘ fantastic’. The major outlay is only low hundreds at most, and not thousands, as on the other brands. Continued Happy Motoring , Roger
  20. It might be worth giving Paul Frost a call. I am not in any way expert , but I do know that he refurbs the various control arms, using proper original parts. I think he does it on an exchange basis. He trades on eBay as Lexussparesdirect, I have no connection with him other than myself and others use him and find him totally fair and with integrity. He tends to specialise in LS 430’s
  21. You seem to be an expert on what Paul Frost does. Why did you not mention that most of his stock goes to the US, which is where the LS was developed for, and where there are considerably more LS’s still on the road. I do get a little tired of reading reviews on their forum about the incredible mileages LS430’s do without fault. A little intelligent thought might conclude that with many more on the road covering very high mileages, parts just might fail, so hello Mr Frost. Maybe it was just a fluke that Lexus dominated the JD Power survey for years, and if good cars are properly cared for, don’t usually become bad cars.......but things can and occasionally do, go wrong.
