  1. My wife owned a Persona 1.8Sri (Mitsubishi 1834cc DOHC engine/drivetrain) from new for 13 years and it regularly returned mid 40's mpg.....even when I drove it. Figures are brim fill figures. A lot depends on how they are driven from new, including acceleration and top speed. We certainly seem to get better figures on the cars we have had from new and we certainly don't hang about.
  2. Which company is that then?
  3. I can't understand why he reported himself! Technically he was not employed by the BBC (so was not violent to a fellow employee) and was under contract purely for Top Gear. Will this affect his upcoming contract with the BBC and if so would he be in a position to sue for breach of contract since the offence happened on a different contract. Whilst I agree with you that if you are employed then this sort of conduct could lead to instant dismissal I think maybe this might have been "handbags at 50 paces!"
  4. Having used mix of Morrison's, Asda & Tesco fuel for as long as it has been about in various cars including Lexus GS300 for 6 years (60k + miles) GS430 for 7 years ( only 26k miles), Rover827Si, Audi 100, Hyundai i30 to mention but a few I can see no reason not to use their fuel. To date none of my cars or wife's cars have had any fuel related issues and have given excellent fuel consumption. I do, however, respect that some people do not trust "supermarket fuel" and don't use it - which is their prerogative.
  5. But until the RCF has been around a while there is no evidence regarding reliability, faults etc. As you say, Top Gear did not drive cars long term. In all honesty the RCF can only be judged when it has been around a while to judge how beautifully built it is.
  6. Tends to suggest that the only reason for these silly wheels is to save money and optimize profitability. The "mpg figures" are not normally accurate for everyday motoring and are not achieved on the road anyway.
  7. Never come across that in t&c's on any of our policies. I would think that technically it could be a getout for insurers who could say they insured for max of xyz miles and it has been exceeded without notification. Just a thought! Mileages can be easily checked from MOT data. I called Churchill last year to increase wife's mileage expectation from 4k to 6k but they did not increase premium. I was advised to specify lower expected miles and if needed to increase then phone them and it is cheaper than taking higher mileage at outset.
  8. So if you get a puncture and have to put on the spare whilst carrying passengers and a boot of luggage, what would you do with the wheel with the punctured tyre? No space in the boot, so maybe on a rear seat passengers knee! I would not have thought that the weight difference would be an issue for motorists, just for manufacturers to be able to "claim" an extra 1 mpg or lower emissions. I could possibly understand their use IF the manufacturers ensured that the spare wheel housing was of a size adequate for the full size wheel to fit into.
  9. The IS engine is nothing special that really requires 98 octane fuel. Lexus dealers don't put it in and Lexus don't tell you to use it. Standard unleaded is fine for them. In 13 years of Lexus ownership I have never felt the need to use higher octane fuel and the same for Hyundai, Honda and Mitsubishi power units.
  10. oOo oOo Does beg the question if OEM has lasted over twenty years and 113k miles how come these "OEM quality or even better" are only guaranteed for twelve months! I think we know. Your car has lasted over 20 years and 113k miles (which is not high mileage for these cars). What length warranty did your Lexus come with when new? Certainly less than 20 years. We tend to put too much store in warranty times I think.
  11. I just cannot get my head around these so-called "spacesaver" spare wheels. There should be a proper full size spare not a midget sized thing which could cause major problems.
  12. Timing belt fixed price at Lexus £345. Water pump, tensioners, pulleys......if needed would add maybe £150 for parts and virtually no labour cost.
  13. Yes, 10 years or 100k so yours is overdue. Had mine done on 10 years even though mileage now is only 71k.
  14. I had this code a year or so back but have not bothered with it. Apparently it only really comes into play over about 4,000 revs so it doesn't cause me any issues. I can start car and drive for days with no warning light on and then it will come on when engine is started and then stays on for maybe 1 or 2 journeys or sometimes a few days then nothing again for days. Doesn't affect me at all although I have been told it can affect fuel economy at higher speeds but I only do around 3,000 miles a year in it now so again no real issues for me. My trusted local garage says around 7 hours labour.
  15. Never charged by Lexus or Hyundai (wife's car) I don't worry about excess as I have annual hire car excess cover for whenever I hire a car....mainly abroad which also covers courtesy cars to I think about £4k excess.
  16. So have you been charged for courtesy car in past from Lexus Stuart?
  17. What would you consider a big insurance increase Stuart? My insurance is around £200 and wife's is just under £150 so an increase of £100 would be a very big increase. Don't forget also that it will be increased for about 5 years. It would also affect both premiums as we are named on each others cars.
  18. I think you are wrong Smiler to say MOST garages find faults! Reputable garages will be just as unbiased as council MOT centres.
  19. What was the fault code?
  20. Usually best in the rear passenger footwell. I always put behind drivers seat. The sanitiser will be drawn in from there. I have used in both my Lexus and also in wife's cars. Follow the instructions carefully and it works.
