  1. Your "3 month inferior warranty" was incorrect as so many traders say 3 month. If anything goes wrong in the first 6 months they are liable under the Sale of Goods Act unless they can prove that it wasn't faulty when you purchased it. The new consumer rights do not supercede the Sale of Goods Act but give additional rights covering most goods.
  2. You may well be correct but that is what I was told by an advanced police driver friend of mine in Huntingdon at the time. This was backed up by several of his colleagues. He told me that if, for example, A vehicle in front was doing 35mph in a 40mph limit then it was perfectly acceptable to accelerate past the limit to facilitate the overtake in a safer manner. As I said though, a camera just does what is set up to do.
  3. It used to be the case, and may still be, that in order to execute a safe overtake it was legal to briefly exceed the limit provided you went back to the limit following the overtake although I think the actual amount over the limit was not laid down. This was back in the '70's so not sure if it is still legal. Cameras would just record that you were over the limit though.
  4. As a former gen 2 owner I don't know what a gen 3 should be like but my gen 2 was certainly nothing like you describe for throttle, braking or steering........................maybe try to find a good gen 2.
  5. The vehicles pass the EU emissions test as it tests for Co2 and not Carbon Oxide, so what are you going to fine them for? They're going to fit Adblue tanks to existing vehicles including EU ones, to comply with the US test for Carbon Oxide emissions. Now how about a fine for those manufacturers producing hybrid vehicles because of the damage to health and the environment by the open cast mining methods and both the production and destruction of the batteries? Your hybrid may run partially cleaner than a diesel but getting it on the road is more destructive. The pollution from cars is a drop in the ocean compared to industry. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk The tests that were rigged were not for Co2 emissions they were for NOX, mainly Nitrogen Dioxide which is the main pollutant from diesel engines. Diesels emit lower amounts of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and carbon dioxide than petrol so whilst the Co2 figures will be higher in real life that is also true of every vehicle on the road and will be until they stop testing in lab conditions.. Not really sure what you are referring to when you say Carbon Oxide.
  6. Well the government have announced that they will not be making VW owners pay more tax as a result of this, which is exactly what I said in post #2 of this thread John. It would have been logistically nigh on impossible.
  7. Something is obviously amiss. Is it the same on all the fan settings, is it the same on both external air and recirculate settings? Even on tickover you should be getting heated air if the air is set to that. Out of interest it may be worth adjusting temp to 16, high fan and see if the air is really cold without having to use high revs......try on tickover.
  8. I am convinced that this will not affect VED retrospectively or indeed until 2017 no matter what the outcome. At the moment this is all pure conjecture since there has been nothing to prove that the EU results were not achieved within the "rules" as the loophole used in EU testing was known to the relevant authorities and ignored. It is only because of the publicity surrounding the US fiddle which has prompted these cries of outrage by various EU countries who were apparently aware of methods used to obtain better figures..........as indeed they are regarding the total falsification of fuel consumption figures which they are complicit in.
  9. Probably nothing immediately as between both our cars we have only done around 7k annually so we will survive with just 1 car. Reall sorry to see my GS430 go but usage over the last 3 years or so just didn't justify running it.
  10. That article indicates that various countries governing bodies allowed a loophole to be used with their full agreement by allowing things such as fully charged batteries to be used to eliminate emissions caused by the alternator making the engine emit more carbon. If you fully read and digest the article it appears that whilst the tests may have shown lower readings it would appear that it was within the EU rules. I am not arguing that the tests were possibly flawed but that doesn't mean to say that owners will have tax bands changed upwards. The new revised EU test is coming, according to your linked article, in 2017 so that would be the time when cars produced from that time might be re-banded.
  11. Distance is relative and it is worth travelling for a decent one, even if you have to travel to look at more than 1 before finding the right one. Mine has just sold and the buyer travelled from Kent to N.Lincolnshire to view it and had no hesitation buying it, but I had been totally honest regarding a couple of issues.
  12. Confirmation of what John? It doesn't really clarify anything with regards to UK since all that is being said by EU is that the results and methods etc will be looked at and random checks carried out.
  13. They are pretty bulletproof but are renowned for brake calipers sticking which can then damage discs. Look on autotrader and Lexus UK websites.
  14. Hyundai i30 1.4. which was purchased new for wife November 2009 and has now done 22,000 miles. I would not hesitate to get another Lexus if circumstances change. 13.5 years oh GS without any reliability issues speaks for itself.
  15. Nice to see good feedback and appreciation of good service.
  16. Diesel powered cars will still sell unfortunately. Emission tests should take account of the fact that diesel fumes are known to contain carcinogens.
  17. To be fair, it is so far only in the US who have stricter regs. Probably don't need "fiddle anything" to meet EU/UK regs. The harm to the brand will be huge. If other manufacturers are involved then don't just look at so called German marques, any manufacturer could be at it.
  18. VW are part of VAG.
  19. The tests are carried out differently in UK. It was "What Car" on BBC this morning who explained it all. Sorry David but could not make sense of your post! "What UK is say about the VWs in the UK"??????
  20. Agreed, but whereas she enjoyed driving the 300 Sport and loved the styling (which I did too) she has never really taken to the later GS models and as a result didn't really enjoy driving it even though she drove it superbly when she had to.
  21. Well, after owning a GS300 Sport for 6 years followed by a GS430 for 7.5 years, I no longer have a Lexus. The car is currently on its way from Lincolnshire to Kent with its new owner. In 13.5 years of ownership both cars were totally reliable and I am really sorry to have sold it but realistically 3000 miles annually and 4000 annually in wifes car makes it pointless owning 2 cars any longer. I hope the new owner gets as much pleasure and trouble free motoring from it as I did. He is a club member and will no doubt be on at some time. I will still be around the forum though.
  22. As above, it is something I have always done no matter what I am driving. Years ago it was acknowledged by a quick double flick of lights on/ lights off before the currently accepted method was introduced. Strangely though I find the worst drivers tend to actually be van drivers. They frequently don't bother pulling in anyway but the ones that do rarely give no acknowledgement.............probably because they are not looking to see when they can safely pull in.
  23. Apparently the EU/UK test is different to the US which has far more stringent regulations on emissions. There should be no change to taxation class/rates in UK according to a report on BBC TV News this morning.
  24. Hope the viewing goes well. If the gen 3 are as good as gen 2 then they are a really great motor.
