The lights are red. The road is dry, and the carriageway in front of me is void of traffic.
I'm sitting in my car, talking to my son, trying to convince him that we should go see Minority Report, when a Lexus IS 200 SC with what looked like a HKS exhaust, gruffs up on my inside.
He blips the throttle.
He blips the throttle again, and again.
I ignore him.
Just as the lights turn to amber, my son asks me if I'm going to beat this guy from the lights. "No." I say to him.
"You don't play with the little fish, when there are bigger fish to fry."
The IS 200 SC roars off before green, leaving me standing at the lights, wondering if I should've taken him.
Then reality kicks in. Against a GS 430 I’d waste him like he was going backwards.
But I don't even have a stock GS.
I have the second largest investment in my life, powered by 300 bhp V8 and a few trick enhancements, from a small, but specialist developer called TDi.
So, the lights turn green, and the IS 200 SC already has the lead on me.
I've just had time to switch the TRC off, before the lights turn green, as TRC would ruin a fast start, before I see the IS 200 SC dart off in front of me.
Thundering my foot to the floor, I feel the car lunge forward, as it sparks into life.
The IS 200 SC jumpstart gives him a car lengths lead, and with a quoted figure of 7.0 secs 0-60 I don’t have to try to hard.
But I need fear not.
Second gear comes on me without realising, as I'm too busy watching the rev counter hit 6000.
Slotting her into second, without so much as a stutter, the car leaps forward again, this time with more power, and this time with the V8 , just warming up.
The rev counter hits 6000 again. Damn that was quick, do I need third gear, no not really.
But where is that IS 200 SC?
He's less than a car length behind me , just as I slam it into third.
As we near 140mph, the IS 200 SC has nothing more left to give.
Meanwhile with 3 thousand more revs of V8 power to go, I lunge forward to 155mph leaving the IS 200 SC well behind.
Having more power, and more torque, any gear proves to be my winning gear.
The V8 and 300bhp has done it's job.
It has provided me with enough power to catch, take, and leave any IS 200 SC behind.
It's time now, to move into the inside lane, and ease off the power, stop have a cup of tea and a bun and wait for him to catch up.
A job well done.....
The game's over, The GS rules!
