Looks very nice and well looked after, mainly straight passes on MOT (parking brakes always seem to give trouble probably through lack of use). The promised 12 months MOT should show any potential defects and it looks like previous advisories were sorted as not mentioned subsequently. If the test drive went well and you have thoroughly inspected it it looks good to me but at the end of the day that is your personally decision whether to buy it or not. Buying from a motor dealer gives you more consumer protection if things do go wrong and they also appear to have a good 4.9 rating.

It’s a Lexus so nothing simple here, they use “Actuators” which pop up the nozzle then return it after use. Personally I would remove them and give them a soak in soapy water and clean them because the units are £270.00 each! Part numbers are 85208-53030 for the left side and 85207-53030 for right side. I cannot see any electrical connections on them and I think they use water pressure to operate, it’s got to be worth seeing if leaning the crud/moss out will restore them. If the valves aren’t shutting completely your windscreen washer pressure will also be down as they normally all feed off the same pump.

On the RX400h the exhaust manifolds and cats are one unit hence the price of £1150.00 and £875.00 for each one. What has the car actually gone in for ? Do you have the Engine Management Light on indicating this fault ? If you have had no previous emission problems at MOT time or exhaust blowing I would be looking for a second opinion.

The local Stratstone BMW dealers at Derby has closed down and seems to be being redeveloped, not sure if it is going to open again as BMW or they’ve thrown the towel in.

You can buy chromed plastic wheel nut covers but with the lock nuts being round they may not stay on.

I used to live fairly close to that ford at Rufford and it was a nice shortcut between the A614 and Boughton. In the later 1970s I had a company Ford Escort van and there is also a wooden footbridge over the ford. People used to stop on the bridge to look at the river just below, me being young, reckless and irresponsible at the time simply accelerated and charged through. My new Celsior has a unit mounted under the rear parcel shelf which is an air purifier unit with an ion generator but disappointingly no flux capacitor. Anyway back to the present, according to the instruction manual there is some nasty high voltage stuff inside, an ultra violet source and a replaceable filter. Mmmmmm...I wonder if that filter needs replacing, I’ll check the price but probably around the usual pollen filter price of £40.00 odd. Toyodiy let’s have a look, good job I was sitting down .... $219.35. Amayama have them up for £70.00 plus shipping plus import taxes but still going to be £100.00. Probably never been replaced, certainly never will be, if a warning ever comes up it will be in Japanese anyway. Also went to the local garden centre today and filled the boot with bedding plants. By the time I got home they had grown 6” taller and were in full bloom....you can’t beat purified ionised air. Lexus in pursuit of purification.

I think Toyota have now realised that a single extended warranty claim can wipe out the money paid for it in one foul swoop even with trade priced parts and ignoring the labour costs.

I understand that the 220d engine D4D is also fitted in the Toyota Avensis so I had a look on their forums. Some of us will remember the early LS400s that suffered from some weird electrical faults due to wire breaking inside the loom as it passed around the boot hinge. Fortunately it was fairly easy to fix by opening up the loom, fixing the break and then taping it all back up. Today I decided to do a little “housekeeping” on the new Celsior/LS430 as there were a couple of exposed wires hanging down in the boot for the retrofit rear parking sensors. I removed the boot trim to gain access and after removing the trim piece which has the boot light in it ( not the boot lid light) I came across a black plastic cylinder with the boot lid wiring loom going into it before exiting again on the other side. It appears that this device is a spring loaded spiral, the loom goes into it and is then wrapped around a spool. When you open the boot the spool turns and the complete loom extends between the device and boot and when you close the boot the spring tension pulls the loom back in again. So basically there is never any stretching of the loom and the earlier model problem will never reoccur. A bit difficult to explain but if you look at the loom as you open the boot it appears to extend and when you close it the loom retracts into the spool.

The first thing to do on any modern vehicle with warning lights on is to have any stored codes read, Lexus being part of Toyota use Techstream to interrogate and diagnose the fault codes. Any decent garage should be able to get the codes read which should point you towards the causes. Were these lights on before the rear brake job or after? I’ll also move your post to the RX forum as you may get more responses from there.

The later front 4 pot callipers will bolt straight onto the hub mounts after removing the original carrier brackets. Later LBJs or an angle grinder if left original ( latter not recommended). Discs are larger diameter so dust shields will also need modifying. Wheel clearance, 16” may fit dependent of design but generally 17” plus.

Some of you know my views of ebay.......the world’s biggest counterfeit store. Paypal were the “buffer” between buyers/sellers and ebay now they are going direct you are basically giving them, via variable Direct Debit, authorisation to take payments as they see fit with 3 days notice instead of the normal 14 days notice from what I understand. Reports to ebay regarding suspected ( in most cases obvious) counterfeit goods being sold result in nothing being done, a seller who from feedback has sold a few used household items suddenly has 100 plus cordless drills for £10.00 each delivered. In most cases the account has been hacked and from there hacking into your linked bank account for those who know how is probably a few clicks of the mouse. Fleabay....what’s not to like 😀

Did the workshop that replaced the 2 bent valves not replace the valve guides and seats at the same time? At around £10.00 each it would have added just £40.00 on the bill but saved you all this hassle yet again.

MOT failures on tyres make me cringe..... a quick walk around before using the car and a weekly 10 minutes out of your life to check the pressures and tread wear. To discover you have an illegal tyre fitted only at an MOT is not good when it could have been like that for 364 days since the last test. Worst scenario is an advisory the previous test and a fail on the same tyre the next test

Mine would qualify on mileage having covered only 94,000 miles, unfortunately age is a different matter at 27 years old😀

As Malc says don’t worry about it, if the day ever does comes and your facing a saggy back end the chances are it will lift as soon as the pump runs and you can still use the car. It won’t leave you stranded. Once you know you have a problem then think about the best solution at that time and as Brian suggests exercise your suspension to keep those seals in good condition.

Both rear exhaust boxes were missing and straight piped! Left before the dealer even got out of the office.
