An excellent write up and thank you for taking the time and trouble to make it, I have pinned this also. The “seized calliper” problem is I assume the lack of maintenance ( removal and greasing) of the slide pins. Given that most of us are aware of this why is it that Lexus servicing procedures don’t include this as part of the brake service? Having said that I would think “Your callipers are seized...you need new ones” is far more profitable than a dab of grease to prevent it happening in the first place. When I purchased my Celsior in 2006 I immediately serviced the brakes and all but one slide pin was removed with relative ease with one requiring a little more assistance. Initially I used copper grease then moly and finally discovered that Red Rubber Grease provided the necessary lubrication and lasting effect. The car today still has its original slide pins fitted and I have never suffered from the seized calliper problem.

I was 100% confident Phil, my other one got failed once due to the fact the tester couldn’t find the switch for the rear fogs (being retrofit of course) this was despite him having had no problems for the years previously. To ensure the same problem did not reoccur this time I put a nice sticker next to the switch which I have subsequently removed. The guy is of little words, “it’s a nice motor” was the only comment he made.

Jaguar Land Rover to develop Hydrogen Fuel Cell technology

Ooh a Flux Capacitor, does the Lexus version include a 100,000 year warranty on it dependent on travel back or forwards in time 😀 -
It’s quite complicated Hugh, there are 4 specifications A,B,C and C-F with A being the “base spec” ( Ford Fiesta Popular) to C-F being the “top spec” ( Ford Fiesta Ghia). But you can specify options on all specs so for example leather or wool seats, sunroof, sat nav ( yes in 1990) and suspension type. Mine is a B spec but has leather seats, no sunroof and TEMS spring suspension the latter being very rare. The same year C-F has the massaging rear heated seats and rear entertainment system. They are as you mention generally very clean underneath compared with road salted UK models.

Jaguar Land Rover to develop Hydrogen Fuel Cell technology

Nuclear that’s the way to go....a cheap and cheerful Chinese made mini reactor taking up little boot space and reconditioned fuel rods available from loads of ebay sellers on an exchange basis, you just couldn’t go wrong 😀 -
Lexus Dealer Service - No Hybrid Test
steve2006 replied to Paul-B's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Personally I would ensure you have written confirmation of the requirements, if it takes months to clock up 600 km and your hybrid battery fails in between the last thing you want to hear is “sorry your check wasn’t carried out at the correct time interval so your warranty is invalid” -

I bought this when I did the idle up valve job, been fine since, no more white start up smoke or fluid loss. I also manually prime the system by spinning the pulley by hand in the normal rotation direction for around 30 turns to get things pre lubricated and stop the initial whine. Belt back on, front tyres either on a couple of glossy magazines or off the ground to assist the lock to lock bleeding process. 1 litre will be plenty to do the job. Dextron III. Good price delivered to your door. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/224391466698?hash=item343ec60eca:g:uK0AAOSw~FFgU8D0

Help! Another Sunroof Problem!
steve2006 replied to Gaz.88's topic in Lexus IS200 / Lexus IS300 Club
Hi David and welcome to the LOC. No I’m not normally up at this time in the morning 😀 When you say stuck....at what position, tilt, open, closed? Try this first. Reinitialize the sunroof by following these steps and see if that helps. 1. Move the sliding roof to the maximum tilted position 2. Release the switch, press the same switch again and hold it for 10 seconds 3. The sliding roof operates in a cycle of TILT DOWN>SLIDE OPEN>SLIDE CLOSE>TILT UP 4. This completes the initializing. -
Is300 - rear end unstable in higher speed bends

Agreed, shocks in the first instance...how you checked them for leaks visually and done the bounce test? Also check ARB bushes for wear and diff mountings. -
Having recently purchased the newer Celsior from Phil I wasn’t duly concerned about the short remaining MOT knowing it’s history and the work already carried out plus the visible condition of the car. My pre checks did reveal the rear LED numberplate lights were flickering with some sections out completely and the offside sidelight was out but all easily sorted with replacements. Took it in this morning at 07.15 and got the telephone call at 08.30 to collect it with a straight no advisory pass. This also means that with just one garage the 1994 Celsior which I’ve had for 15 years will be going, I could justify the cost of keeping it (tax and insurance is less than £500.00 a year) but I can’t look out of the window and watch it shivering on the driveway.

Just checked on LPD and they have 5L of Toyota Type IV transmission fluid at £39.44 against the RRP of £65.00 at the moment. If you are planning a fluid job get it now maybe. https://lexuspartsdirect.co.uk/parts/lexus-gs/lexus-gs-phase-i-1993-1997/lexus-gs-engine-service-kits/lexus-5-litre-type-iv-automatic-transmission-fluid/

Most Lexus models now have Dual Zone Climate Control” but mine has took it one stage further with “Dual Zone Time Controls”. On my side I set my time to GMT let’s say 11.00 am so getting ready for some lunch, meanwhile the other half has hers set to GMT + 10 and getting ready for a Singapore Sling in Raffles. 😀 -

Talking of digital readouts a guy on my works team got the same new van as myself and they had the digital speedometer, he refused the van because he wanted a “proper speedometer with a dial” He got his wish too then left 6 months later. I also remember getting a Timex LED watch for my 18th birthday, red LEDs as that was the only colour made then back in 1977, 21st saw me getting an LCD watch with backlight. Both took ages to set up just for the time. -

I’m not into air vent mounted things, they tend to droop as the vent slats move, fall off and get crushed by the entering size 9 or break the air vent slats as happened with an air freshener I had. Plus I’ve never heard of “Quartz” what models of cars do they make. Would be fun on my oscillating centre vents though when the passenger asks what time it is “Just a second it’s coming over to your side now” 😀 -

That V8 will still be going strong Malc even if it eventually falls out of the shell......a mobility scooter, a couple of custom engine mounts and a V8.....can’t see any problems with that. My name is already down for the Tesla Mobility Scooter, there’s no way I’m getting halfway across the road and the green man goes back to red.

I thought exactly the same, looking at the rear bumper I immediately thought “ only one previous careless driver”. The steering wheel and interior don’t look “15k” but the last MOT appears to validate the claimed mileage. There are some gaps in MOTs perhaps on a private plate but why would a “one owner” change plates twice over 3 years? I’d be looking very carefully at that “Service history”. After being stood for over 5 years it will certainly need some parts and money put into it.

Does look nice but is it normal practice these days to take photographs of a car before it has even been washed never mind valeted especially in present times, OK if it’s stood on the forecourt for weeks it will need doing again before sale but when you are asking nearly £35k for a secondhand car and there’s obviously been no effort put into presentation I do wonder what the rest of the dealership is like. Quite a few available, looks like PCPs are coming to an end and time to grab a depreciation bargain.
