  1. Hi Raja and welcome to the LOC. Sorry can’t really help with your question as always been a secondhand LS400 person, are you looking at outright purchase or PCP? Pretty sure you’ll get some more advice from other members.
  2. You could try Rockauto for aftermarket or Amayama for OEM units, anything safety critical not ebay.
  3. FJ currently insure my 1994 Celsior on “classic” but wouldn’t even consider my 2004 Celsior even on a normal policy. Due to the expiry of my full NCB ( Classic does not give NCB) I struggled to find a company who would even cover me with nil NCB, some wanted at least a year, another insisted on me fitting a Thatcham Alarm so that left AF at nearly double my last “normal insurance” premium and that is restricted mileage.
  4. They are so cannot ever be used on electric windows as they would keep jumping off their tracks 😀
  5. Becoming the same here with the football, there’s no such thing as natural football these days, it’s just become too technical with “set pieces” and teams spend more time passing the ball back towards their own goal than advancing towards their opponents. I used to get more entertainment from playing the game on a Nintendo Wii.
  6. Great write up and thank you taking the time and trouble to do it for all members. There are similar motors in the door lock actuators, as you mention replacements are a few pounds and the hardest part is actually removing the lock from the door but the self satisfaction and cost savings are worth the effort. You have also discovered the practical aspects of Fleming’s Left Hand Rule which determines the motor direction in relation to the direction of the magnetic field 😀
  7. I wasn’t wrong either ”While current estimates suggest that there are 700,000 vehicles that are incompatible with E10 fuel in regular use on the UK’s roads, the government estimates that scrappage schemes will remove the majority of these, leaving only a few of what they term “cherished and classic” vehicles.”
  8. So basically you can continue to use older non compatible vehicles but you’ll pay more duty/tax for the privilege over the next 5 years. Such determination to remove these vehicles from the road, What’s next an E10 scrappage scheme.....here’s £2K off a Nissan Leaf!
  9. I’ve replaced a lot of the LCDs in the early LS400s, you need to be very good at desoldering/resoldering, have a decent TCP iron with a fine bit, braid and liquid flux or you could damage the print. Also confirm if the replacement is suitable for RHD models as they are different for LHD on the LS400 and cost a lot more for RHD but not as much as these at £120.00!
  10. I bet Michael Portillo has a yellow pair for his train journey programmes 😀
  11. Hi John and welcome to the LOC. Usually places, fleabay for stupid offers and tyre kickers, Autotrader, Pistonheads, Gumtree, Classic Car magazine or even on here if you read and follow the “Cars for Sale” rules 😀
  12. In the past I’ve managed to buy sets of wheels from ebay or gumtree locally at a good price always worth a look. I think I paid around £140.00 for this set of 18” off an IS250C, dusty but cleaned up lovely.
  13. Sounds about what my guy would charge me for a job like that. If you can access the area behind the panel it may even push out by hand before going to a specialist but you’ll never get the paint looking good with a rattle can.
  14. From what you say you have spend little if nothing actually repairing the car, the cost has all been routine maintenance such as brakes, filters and fluids i.e. your service costs. If it ever goes for an MOT and fails miserably for severe corrosion say on subframe or mounting areas then you reconsider your options, the engine alone will still be worth more than the scrap yard value of the complete car. You have also owned the car for some time so will no doubt know it’s history, why replace it with another where you don’t.
  15. Hi Jenny and welcome to the LOC Apparently quite a common problem on Toyota/Lexus hybrids, due to suspect quality and high currents the contacts within the contactor (a form of electrical relay) can stick resulting in the fault code you now have. Sometimes a physical tap on the contactor can release the contacts but this may only result in a temporary solution as they are likely to stick again. Unfortunately only the complete unit is available as a replacement and given the dangers of working with HV electrics a DIY approach to repair is not recommended unless you are competent to carry out such work and have the required PPE. Further professional diagnosis is also recommended to confirm the fault is the contactor unit given the price! You don’t provide your location, there are several specialists within the UK but maybe not in your country? https://diag.net/msg/m5yo52ugtu9jod7l4pxa0dsdyp https://share.qclt.com/丰田普瑞斯原厂英文手册pdf格式/repair manual/04pruisr/05/21bpm/0aa4228.pdf
  16. Yep 32mm 12 point required as nut is 12 point. 1/2” drive minimum 3/4” preferably.
  17. Have you tried Paul Frost for the door, he has several series IVs breaking at the moment?
  18. Arrr OK I see now, my 2004 Celsior is converted from AS to springs, unfortunately Strutmaster don’t list a kit for the Crown but may be worth an email to them. If you want adjustable units it may have to be aftermarket only.
  19. Very true, when it says “MOTED” I personally think it’s mis-spelt and should say “MOATED” because it appears to have sat in one for a few years.
  20. Just spotted this, OK JDM Toyota badged and heavily modified but a GS300 at the end of the day. https://www.pistonheads.com/buy/listing/11464843
  21. Expensive but very good example and MOT history. https://www.pistonheads.com/buy/listing/11861575
  22. Surely changing from air to adjustable coil overs will make height changes even slower and more difficult as you would have to physically turn the adjuster rings each time?
  23. There are various options for the wheel sizes including both diameters and widths, the rear driven wheels tend to be wider than the fronts and therefore the tyre tends to be wider. To ensure the rolling radius is the same with different tyres on the front and rear the aspect ratio (35/40) is different. This is known as a “Staggered Wheel” set up and is common amongst more “ sporty” cars. Looking at the list below 19x8 is a 19” diameter rim 8” wide, the next option is 19 x 9, same diameter but 9” wide. So the reason why you have different tyres is probably because you have wider wheels on the back, what are the other figures off the tyres, the first 3 give the tyre width in mm. For example 245/40/18.
