  1. What is the wheel you are “looking at”? You need to consider airbag safety for sure if working on the steering wheel.
  2. At 96,000 miles all my discs are still the original factory fitted ones, there is no perceptible wear lip on them or scoring on the contact surfaces. The front pads have been replaced 3 times, the second replacement was with EBC pads but the dust was excessive so I replaced them again with OEM pads shortly afterwards. The rear pads have been replaced once.
  3. The valve spring problem apparently only affected cars built between 2006 and 2008 so yours should not have been affected. https://www.cars.com/research/lexus-gs_450h/recalls/ The information link is for USDM versions but may prove useful, if you have the registration number and a few other details you can also check on a dedicated Lexus UK checker. The MOT history checker is also an invaluable way of seeing if there are any “advisories” suggesting future repairs may be necessary for example “slight play in lower ball joint” or “dust cover deteriorated”. Other items like “near side tyre close to legal limit” also give an idea as to whether previous owners have looked after the car when it comes to essential checks. Finally as you are purchasing from a motor dealer the Consumer Rights Act provides you with protection should something major go wrong with the car, this is particularly useful within the first 6 months when any defect is deemed to have been present at purchase so any “wear and tear” excuses are difficult to disprove by the dealer. Finally finally you are buying one of the most consistently reliable brands in the world so relax and enjoy the experience 😀
  4. I remember buying a new battery from Lexus Derby some years ago. Personally greeted by the parts’ manager I was asked to take a seat in reception and then provided with the usual hospitality of coffee and treats. Casually glancing around I then saw the same guy sprinting from the Lexus dealership to the Toyota dealership across the car park to reappear several minutes later with my new battery. Strangely he didn’t sprint back with it 😀
  5. Thanks Steve that’s a very nice tutorial and will certainly help other members, that other website you mentioned is only for Scubaru Impreza models 😀
  6. Not got a GSF but having looked at the price of the parts alone £1048.00 fitted looks good, if your dealer offers a 10% LOC gold membership discount it would be worth upgrading as you would save your subscription 3 times over 😀
  7. Hi Ray and welcome to the LOC. As Malc has mentioned this is a fairly common problem and is due to the motors failing internally. Replacements from Lexus are very expensive at over £400.00 EACH although working secondhand ones appear occasionally on fleabay. Amayama.com will supply them for around £180.00 each including shipping plus VAT. Replacement also involves a strip down of the steering column which is DIYable with moderate mechanical skills or a good 2 hours garage labour. A lot of owners have manually positioned the steering wheel to their liking by turning the motor drive shafts then disconnected the motors electrically which may be the case with yours.
  8. Great result with “Olde Skool” service skills, let’s have a think what the Lexus dealer would have done. ”Your alternator has failed....you need a new one...parts and labour £843.00 plus VAT * we can get you in next week” Amazing how once past the M55 Blackpool intersection the M6/M74 becomes like a motorway in the 70s. If you’re going near Wick could you get me a bottle of Old Pulteney and drop it off on your way home please. 😀 * educated guess.
  9. Hi Stephen and welcome to the LOC. Which model are you considering buying as the LS460 is not hybrid, that’s the LS600h?
  10. Just check the wheels for excess heat, if one is a lot hotter it could be the proverbial seized calliper problem, the effect would be more pronounced from a standing start but overcome once the wheels get rolling faster.
  11. Seems to always be the same, we appear to have some of the best consumer law protection in the UK but it’s a complete mine field getting through it. I seem to remember when the VW emissions scandal emerged owners in the USA got no quibble refunds and class action whereas in the UK they got “Sorry” and lo and behold the compensation chasing claims brigade appeared.
  12. Just thought did the Japan price include VAT pre paid?
  13. UK Lexus pricing policy..... retail cost of part, add UK surcharge of 30% then add another 20% VAT. Take Toyota type IV transmission fluid, UK price is around £60.00 for 5 litres, USA price for equivalent amount around $30.00.
  14. Good morning Derek and welcome to the LOC 😀
  15. Looking at the exploded diagrams for both the 450h and 300 (2006 models) they look the same physically but obviously different part numbers. Found these?
  16. “I just knew when that Kwik Fit guy got the impact wrench out those nuts were going to be overtightened!”
  17. I did notice that during the first lockdown unleaded dropped to 99p a litre and was one of the few times I have fully fuelled up, today was £129.9 ( the .9 should be made illegal!) and it got £30.00 worth. Derv was £1.35 and SUP was £1.37 rounded up.
  18. I was offended when he got to number 2 and he stuck his fingers up at me.
  19. Looks like you’ve done well there, Lexus don’t service slide pins but new callipers are always on the shelf 😀
  20. I wonder if fuel duty will be lowered to help the economy?".................Oh a pig has just flown over the house 😀
  21. Same here, a quids worth provided a evenings cruising and still enough to get to work and back a few times.
  22. Missing those days of 68p a GALLON! 😀
