  1. Hi Darren and welcome to the LOC. Great choice for your 1st Lexus 😀
  2. I doubt if this car belongs to a member they would admit it but spotted this on a YouTube video. Pulls out from the wrong side of the road then turns left in front of an approaching vehicle then brake checks! Video link below time is around 17 minutes in.
  3. I doubt it, servicing seems to be more check and tick these days. Even the calliper slide pins aren’t greased during a service leading to the eventual “seized calliper”
  4. If you’re referring to the white stuff around the capacitor that’s glue not electrolyte leakage so it’s fine.
  5. Hi Michael and welcome to the LOC. If it was all working before the sensor replacement I would be going back to the garage that did that work and firstly ask them why it isn’t now. If they won’t sort it start by checking the fuses beginning with the Radio No.1 fuse (Fuse 16 in the number 2 fuse box) https://fuse-box.info/lexus/lexus-ls430-xf30-2000-2006-fuses-and-relay
  6. I bought a tin of this, with the amount needed it will outlast me and the car 😀 https://tinyurl.com/58znnev8
  7. Nicely presented and looks very clean, pity the MOT history can’t be checked.
  8. 5th injectors, DPFs and EGR systems, Ad Blu, emissions scandals, cracked EGR pipes.....no wonder I buy petrol imports
  9. I would find a local independent garage with Lexus experience rather than a dealership. Make sure they have access to Techstream the Toyota diagnostic system and knowledge of the D4D engine. If it turns out to be a faulty 5th injector, software issues or a wiring problem a decent garage should be able to sort it for a fraction of Lexus prices. I don’t know what’s going off with Lexus at the moment with the warranty changes and increases in repair costs but those quotes are horrendous!
  10. Have you also considered UK aftermarket suppliers which should provide the correct type?
  11. Just got my new plates made up, tried locally but no one does the Japanese sized ones which I am legally entitled to fit. Eventually found a company in Leicester who were happy to receive scanned copies of the V778 and paper part of my driving licence instead of posting the originals. Also requested they deleted the copies from their computer system once issued, the V778 is worthless anyway once the transfer has been made. But of course my licence is still valid. No matter what security measures are put in place crooks will find a way around it, I do wonder how many cars actually fail the MOT on numberplate issues like incorrect character spacing or missing makers details and a BS number.
  12. Have a look at this thread, you could try disconnecting the battery first as mentioned which will cost you nothing but remember you may have to reset the auto windows.
  13. Hi Desta and welcome to the LOC. From your numberplate I see you have a Lexus IS220d. What colour is the smoke? When the smoke happens are there any other problems like a lack of engine power? Any warning lights on the dash? There are some known causes but more information would help us to help you. 😀
  14. A security code wouldn’t prevent the unit powering up. I would start by checking the associated fuses for the audio system. Although unlikely the cables you have soldered in may be shorting out on the PCB, screened cables may also be a better option to minimise interference.
  15. Physically removing and fitting the seats generally involves 4 bolts and a wiring loom connector but the electrics are a little more involved. Lexus normally have the additionally required wiring loom already installed but not connected and you will also need the switch panel and maybe fit a fuse or 2 in the existing fuse box. Being Japanese imports I’ve never had heated seats in either of mine, my latest one only has rear heated/massage seats but it’s never bothered me.
  16. The last two sets of wheels I have purchased were found locally on Gumtree and FB Marketplace, I think I paid £130.00 for the set of staggered IS250c wheels shown below, they needed a good clean which costs a little time and effort but were almost immaculate. Occasionally they come up in the for sale sections so keep an eye out.
  17. Difficult from a picture but looks “borderline” The tester’s manual states that if the tester is not sure how far the corrosion has penetrated the benefit of doubt should be biased towards a pass. The other issue I would imagine is that Lexus would be fitting OEM pre formed sections of brake pipe whereas the local garage would be rolling out the copper pipe, cutting back to a good section then jointing with the approved joint type. Not sure about the IS250 but my front to rear pipes are not only plastic coated but are contained within plastic ducting so unlikely to suffer from corrosion or impact damage. The ends as in your case are the only exposed areas and I had both mine replaced from £60.00 locally.
  18. Just take it to another independent MOT station and ask them to take a look and give an opinion on the pipes and whether they would, in their opinion, during a test fail the car for it.
  19. Hi Matt and welcome to the LOC. We have quite a few LS600h owners on here so hopefully some will chip in with some more info. Regarding Lexus servicing and the age of the car it wouldn’t make much difference so. I would find a good independent that understands hybrids. Any that interest you feel free to post up links for input and advice.
  20. More unfortunately Barry is that Morrison’s are very unlikely to provide any CCTV footage due to Data Protection it normally requires a request from the police. The police have of course concluded the investigation by providing a crime number....case closed....unsolved...file under statistics. Had the police actually investigated and identified the thief then the CPS took it to court it would have been another slap on the wrist for the 120th offence!
  21. Actually making a claim is the acid test for the insurance company, it doesn’t matter that they beat any quote, offer free excess or give you a stuffed meerkat every renewal. What does matter is a timely response and a fair and reasonable settlement, they always come to the table with an insulting offer (their own “Market Value”). If you still have access to the eBay details, particularly photographs submit them to show the condition of the car, there is one on eBay at the moment with 124k, FSH at £2995.00. Also bear in mind used car prices have been on the increase too. Hopefully you don’t have to resort to another Battle of Hastings. Good to hear the police have completed their investigations by way of a crime number....that’s why crimes does pay!
  22. I already have a Lexus LS430 (OK the Japanese version) so could you ask the young lady at Halfords if I could be her boyfriend? 😀
  23. Given the MOT advisories for all the tyres that sounds like skimping, OK I can understand the owner not replacing them now with the car for sale but by the sounds of it they are the original tyres so 12 years old and well past their lifespan on age. Personally I wouldn’t feel safe driving this car home with those tyres still on. Price now reduced to £22,000 so now pays for new rubber all around.
  24. It seems to have rolled onto its side, suspect on original tyres from MOT advisories so immediate expense, I wonder what the rear bumper damage is about?
