  1. Cheers George thanks for your input, I purchased from the seller you recommended, took some installing as the 64 bit driver wouldn’t load and the provided link for it failed but I eventually got it downloaded from the internet. Tried it out briefly today and did a full scan and nothing flagged apart from air suspension codes which are understandable given it no longer has it fitted. I put my spare battery on charge to boost the car battery on jump leads for further diagnostics which will hopefully lead me towards the backlight issue....the only bus I fully understand is the number 93 into Alfreton so a bit of a steep learning curve for me.
  2. It’s the “optical pricing” that annoys me.. 149.9 a litre.....gosh that’s a lot cheaper than 150.0 a litre and just try putting exactly £30.00 in, it now jumps from £29.99 to £30.02.
  3. Same with savings interest, base rate increased twice, Barclaycard statement immediately reflected this by increasing rates not that it affects me as I always pay in full. Strangely enough not a peep from my savings account provider.
  4. I was trying to find this out without success. If by some miracle the gas wholesale price falls and remains so does this mean that the “Price cap” will be lowered contrary to the next cap in October where another rise is suggested. I thought that the cap was there to prevent suppliers making extortionate profits which if the wholesale price drops significantly they will achieve. Not holding my breath as I still remember the “potato shortage” when the price of chips went through the roof. They never came back down in price when supplies normalised and the wholesale price of potatoes dropped back down.
  5. Damn, I should have got to this Tesla charging station earlier!
  6. I was reading an article yesterday explaining why wholesale gas prices have gone up so much but the way it apparently affects electricity generation was amusing. A proud moment was reached when the generation companies managed to run the network for 55 straight days without using a coal fired power station...impressive until you discover that only 3% of power is generated this way. Electricity generation costs have increased due to a lack of wind resulting in the use of more fossil fuel generation. Back to the 70’s here we come, super inflation, strikes for more pay, leaves on the line, wrong type of snow plus wrong strength of wind. Electricity in the following postcode areas will be switched off between 5.00pm and 7.00pm this evening to allow the required demand be met for car charging in the following areas. Candles, candles...get your candles now!
  7. Better than Footman James they wouldn’t even give me a quote for the new Celsior because “It isn’t on our system”
  8. “Cheap rate” car charging will disappear so let’s assume with yesterday’s new “energy cap” a KWH is 30p. Also assume the charger is 7KW and is used overnight for 4 hours. So 28KWH @ 30p = £8.40. Add in the yet to come “Electric vehicle Charging Duty” assume 20p/KWH so £5.60. Add VAT to the total charged at not 5% but 20% the same as petrol/diesel. Then just wait for the network to crash when the wind stops blowing 😀
  9. Hi Mark, welcome to the LOC and congratulations on becoming a Lexus owner. I don’t think there are any aftermarket exhausts made for any Lexus model and OEM are very expensive for mild steel, many members have opted for a custom stainless steel cat back system which works out both cheaper and longer lasting. Lexus alloys are renowned for corrosion and a full strip and repaint is the way to go. If you don’t have a confirmed cam belt change date just do it along with all the other associated bits including the water pump. Go for a branded kit (usually Aisin) and take a look at Rockauto.com for parts as even with shipping and VAT they are usually half the UK price.
  10. I would be asking at the dealership on the next service regarding both issues but something to check is the cameras mounting area at the top of the windscreen behind the mirror. With the weather we’ve had recently is it clean to enable the cameras to see clearly. Below is a video which may prove useful on the system operation.
  11. A hybrid V8....now that does sound tempting....the beat of both worlds!😀
  12. It could be worse like a large speaker mounted under the rear bumper booming out.... “Caution this Lexus IS reversing, beep, beep, beep.” 😀
  13. I picked up a friend of mine and his wife on Saturday night in the Celsior who’s previous cars have included BMW, Mercedes and Bentley models. He commented that although he was impressed with the quality of Lexus cars it was the enormous front grille on the new models that put him off buying one. I must admit that the grille which was once subtle on earlier models has gone OTT taking over virtually all the front of the car. I appreciate that it’s not only Lexus big grilles are in fashion now like shoulder pad dresses were many years ago but Lexus following the fold like Lemmings heading towards a cliff.
  14. Yes, remove the spark plug on the No.1 cylinder and gently lower a long screwdriver into the spark plug hole until it is sitting on top of the piston. Turn the crank pulley nut and watch for the screwdriver rising up indication a rising piston then align the crank pulley marks, then check the camshaft pulley marks. If both the crank and cam pulley marks now align correctly you are on compression however if the cam pulley is misaligned you are on exhaust and the engine needs turning over another complete revolution. Don’t forget to remove the screwdriver!
  15. Hello Andrew and welcome to the LOC.
  16. The distributor caps are a bit of a pig to do as you have to remove the belt covers to get to the screws, I used a 1/4” drive ratchet set with long extensions to get to the cover bolts. The passenger side coil is also awkward being on a slant.
  17. This happened to my old Celsior during an MOT ( the only times the car was lifted this way) but unfortunately only discovered some time after.
  18. Cheers again and thanks for the comprehensive update. If you look in the MOT history it did fail once on front LBJs and it did get OEM Lexus replacements but with today’s roads just one pothole can wreck them or the UCA.
  19. Cheers for the update. Must admit I hadn’t looked under the arches for a while as I always jet washed under them after each winter to get the salt off them plus the underside and nothing mentioned at the MOT. It certainly looks better at the rear as it looked a little high after I replaced the KYB springs ( hang onto those as becoming very hard to find now). Glad it’s found another caring home 😀
  20. Any updates on the car Aaron? I know you mentioned a few niggles and possibly a damper problem.
  21. Also bear in mind that aftermarket units may be for LHD vehicles so beam patterns may be wrong plus units should be BS marked to comply.
  22. Just a quick clarification question, did you buy this car privately or from a car dealer?
  23. I noticed that Linas, mine shows 5 at a standstill but obviously does pull off in 5th gear.
