  1. Oh dear, the classic Lexus seized callipers with the slide pins that never get removed, cleaned and re-greased during a service. Not sure if the carriers come with new slides but you need 2 on each side plus the 14mm bolts as well.
  2. Have you smacked the dash yet Simon? 😀 I had a problem with my old Celsior in that it read very low, traced it to a duff KMH to MPH adaptor ( import model). The cruise control light illuminated but I couldn’t set the speed with the fault present.
  3. Den I’ve just done a search and found multiple articles regarding the condenser breaking up on as you mention Toyota and Lexus vehicles in the USA but this is the first time I have heard of this problem and it would appear also many members of this club. There are no prior posts related to this. The only possible remaining warranty on your RX400h may be for the hybrid battery pack provided it has been subjected to an annual health check performed by Lexus but even so it may be worth a call to your local dealer who may have had previous claims for the same problem and may offer a discounted repair. This is an owners’ club with no affiliation to Lexus GB or worldwide so unaware of any Lexus claims procedures. I also had a look at Toyota/Lexus TSBs for any related information but failed to find any https://www.tsbsearch.com/Lexus The only way to confirm it is the condenser is to check it visually but even this is a major dash out job and the associated costs involved with both parts and labour. You were also advised if the car was purchased from a motor dealer in the last 6 months that you may have a claim under the Consumer Rights Act to have this problem repaired at the dealer’s expense.
  4. Reject it, somehow I don’t think you will get the £85.00 retention fee back though. It didn’t have a previous life near Rufford Ford did it.
  5. What’s happened to the OPs post, space bar stuck on ?
  6. TBH to stick an expensive piece of electron equipment in the boot of a car the most unfriendly environment to do so is beyond belief, why when earlier models had them within the passenger cabin either behind the dash or under the seat? An “upmarket” audio company that refers any problems with their own equipment fitted in Lexus car to the “Lexus dealer” It is Mark Levinson not Lexus that designed and manufactured these amplifiers and as the manufacturer Levinson should accept full responsibility for defects not simply “pass the buck” If that is the case why is the equipment not branded as Lexus. Bose for example offer a fixed cost repair service for their equipment beyond the warranty period, as do Sonus I believe. I can only assume that both companies have a financial agreement in regards to this policy. Consumer rights state that goods must last a reasonable length of time and to be fair 11 years would be considered more than reasonable but £2-3000 for the only option of a replacement by Lexus is not. Another consideration is obtaining spare parts, do we have a situation here where the manufacturer refuses to supply parts to third party repairers explaining the apparent lack of repairers? Unfortunately the days of repairing equipment have long gone with today’s just replace it attitude it becomes yet another item for the WEEE skip and the subsequent environmental issues it then poses.
  7. I think the safest way would be to remove the complete unit and then gain access to the bezel from behind. They are normally held in by plastic clips, you could end up damaging the buttons if you try prising out from the front and at €6500.00 for a replacement unit that’s something to avoid.
  8. Have you tried giving the top of the dash above the speedo a thump with the side of your fist? There is a known fault where oil on the needle stop can cause it to stick at zero and a good slap as mentioned when driving can free it.
  9. There is no easy way, IIRC I removed the battery and the tray under it (soak the nuts prior to trying to remove them in WD40 as they tend to shear off). Plenty of light and a dental mirror, 1/4” sockets with short extension bars and double jointed fingers😀
  10. ECU is Number 4 so lower dash on passenger side. I would be back probing the ECU confirming 12 volt supplies, grounds and can-bus communications before condemning the unit. This may help with pin outs. http://zatonevkredit(blocked word)/repair_manuals/raw_content/rm000002n2b02zx.xml
  11. It sounds like you have pulled the boot release, the bonnet release is further down below and as mentioned by Brian a mechanical lever. Picture is an LS430 but look underneath the boot and fuel flap switches.
  12. Difficult to tell I know but mine is blue 😀
  13. Hello and welcome to the LOC. If the check engine light is on you need firstly to have the fault codes read which should help you find the problem. When you have the code(s) post them up for further advice.
  14. Hi Vlad and welcome to the LOC. Being speed related have you checked for play in the wheel bearing, jack the wheel off the ground then rock the wheel with your hands placed at the 9 and 3 o’clock position and 6 and 12 o’clock position to see if you can detect any bearing play. Other things to check although not speed related are the LBJ, UCA, ARB bushes and any other rubber suspension related bushes
  15. “You sit in the driver’s seat and watch......as soon as the low fuel light goes out tell me and I’ll stop”
  16. As above, nearly flattened the battery leaving the doors open a few times.
  17. Any MOT failures or advisories for tyres to me shows a complete lack of care for the car and more importantly safety.
  18. Hi Lewis, Yes OEM parts are expensive here in the UK but there are other sources around 50% cheaper 😀, just checked the MOT history so must have all been done but obviously can’t tell if pattern parts were used. I can never understand how car dealers present cars in such a state when even a quick hoover would improve things but wonder what happened to the driver’s seat. Headlights need a good polish but a common problem with plastic lenses. At least with a dealer you should get a warranty and have enhanced consumer rights should something go wrong. States full service history so hopefully all Lexus and 3 previous owners. Good idea taking a mechanic with you or get an AA/RAC vehicle inspection done and make sure it’s HPI check is OK. They seem to have quite a few Lexus cars for sale and good reviews.
  19. If you want to post up links for any specific cars you are considering please do so, it may be known on the club from a previous owner and gives a chance for members to take a look with you. 😀
  20. Hi Peter and welcome to the LOC, picture below showing thermostat position, just follow the top hose from the radiator. If you have overheating issues it may not be as simple as the stat, these engines are renowned for head gasket failures among others.
  21. As Malc mentions they are factory fitted and simply fit over the metal sills, if you look under the car you can see where they meet the sill seam.
  22. Never seen one of these in GC but there again perhaps not good business in the tourist areas. I’ve seen the taxi drivers giving their cars a wipe over between fares. Coming back over in a couple of weeks, managed to grab a beachfront apartment for 3 weeks. Out of curiosity what’s the fuel prices like over there now John, Christmas was around €1.18 so £1.00 a litre. Just thought I wonder if the £ has crashed again!
  23. I saw the queue at Sainsbury's Ripley yesterday with cars going around the loop to join at £1.44/1.47. I assumed it was “panic buying” and later heard crude had reached “record levels” I also heard the pump price had already been increased at some outlets due to profiteering! Certainly got us over a barrel again.
  24. Now there’s a thing, a cat that runs away and hides when being approached by men with a jack, cutting tool and a baseball bat instead of stolen 😀
