  1. Have you seen the price of LPG recently Allan, it’s now over £1.00 a litre and likely to rise further? If you consider the price of the conversion would you ever recover the cost?
  2. If you google “Lexus ls430 door replacement” there is a good list of videos showing removal of the door card, speaker replacement,lock/handle replacement and actuator replacements. These should get you to a basic strip down position so just wiring looms and door computers to remove and transfer. I know Mike “Bluesman” on here has replaced a door on his LS400 who may be able to assist you further.
  3. Hello Roy and welcome to the LOC. SGS have a good reputation for providing quality products here on the LOC. Many members have purchased replacements from them. In my case and living locally I took my bonnet struts to them and had them re-gassed to maintain originality. They also manufacture quality axle stands and jacks and retail power tools at very good prices.
  4. Not the outcome you were hoping for then, just got to wait for the first insulting offer and go from there taking into consideration the rise in used car values. The target really has to be your envisaged selling price, the price to be paid is your loss of NCB and the subsequent rise in premium. I read the other day that hybrids are the prime target as due to emissions the cats fitted contain a lot more precious metals so are more valuable as scrap. As for the police response....don’t get me started on that issue.
  5. Blimey £10.00 for an isolator switch and 30 minutes to fit = £200.00! Not sure if my certification is still valid but tempted to come out of early retirement😀 Anyone need an isolator fitted, I have plentiful stocks in my shed.
  6. It does make me smile when utility companies say a cut out fuse needs “upgrading” by the DNO. Without various checks being carried out on the earthing system installed, service cable load capacity and looping they cannot simply change the fuse from say 60A to 80/100A. Also many DNO cut outs are only rated to 60A meaning that also needs to be replaced to accommodate an increased current fuse. Also I cannot understand why BG aren’t installing DPIs themselves, the same technical qualifications to fit meters are required for isolators.
  7. DNOs tend to charge you for a DPI whereas most utility companies do them either free or a lot cheaper than £140.00. BG basically did a “fire and rehire” on their engineers so a lot of the “good ones” left who were in turn replaced by fast tracked apprentices. Those that did sign new contracts were then faced with a lower salary and longer working hours which I imagine significantly changed their work ethic. They now appear to be struggling to keep pace with service demands but of course still spend millions on TV advertising for services they then fail to provide in a timely manner
  8. You may get away with removing just the front seats ( 4 bolts and a couple of plugs but disconnect the battery and wait 10 minutes to allow the airbag system to fully discharge.) Assistance removing the seats from the car recommended! If you need any parts try Paul Frost at Lexussparesdirect on eBay, he breaks LS models.
  9. They look like the ones that run around the plenum chamber ( the bit which has the Lexus symbol on it). Picture shows all the vacuum pipes except for the brake servo vacuum line and the two bigger pipes from the air intake pipe work between the MAF and TB.
  10. I’m pretty sure that the LS400 was the last Lexus car built with a stainless steel exhaust as standard and every model after that was a mild steel system. The difference here is that when I recently sold my 1994 Celsior it still, after 25 old years and 97,000 miles had the original system fitted. Its replacement, a 2004 model year Celsior also fortunately came again with an SS system as this was apparently an option. Fortunate for me in nearly 18 years of Lexus ownership I have never had to repair of replace an exhaust system.
  11. If the current tyres have good tread, not old and meet the required specifications why change them now? There tends to be constant “special offers” so I would wait until I need to replace them.
  12. I bought the one recommended by Herbs, took a bit of installing into my old laptop being a 64 bit version but communicated fine with car once done. Not had much chance to delve into it yet but did a quick code scan and all was good.
  13. Plus you don’t have to take lessons to be aggressive and dangerous then pass another test to prove it 😀
  14. I can’t be 100% sure if that is the cam sensor or the suppressor capacitor connector, just have a look in the black sleeving circled to see if there is just one wire in there. Looks like the ignition leads are still original so chances are so are the distributor caps and rotor arms which could be the cause. No fault codes will be shown for ignition faults on this model. You need to determine whether the issue is fuel related (throttle body, injectors or vacuum leaks) or ignition related as above.
  15. It’s £5000.00 on AT probably sold as seen no warranty given or implied!
  16. Strange MOT history, first with an unreadable speedo and 2 tests on same day at different test centres? Is it a demo model or spent the last 5 years going sideways on track days😀
  17. I once bought a brand new British Leyland car which after 2 days developed a rattle on the offside front, another day later the front offside wheel fell off. After coming to a grinding halt I noticed the rattle had then completely disappeared 😀
  18. This was mine in May 2011 having spent 12 years in Japan and being kept in a dry but unheated garage.
  19. If you find you don’t like the fuel that Lexus put in please let me know .....I’ll give you a quid a litre😀
  20. Sorry to hear this, another unfortunate situation where the jack didn’t collapse at just the right time! Yes feel free to post the RX in the “Cars for sale” section of the forum, please just follow the listing requirements, pretty sure another member was looking for one recently too.
  21. Hello and welcome to the LOC James, it looks like you’ve found a very nice well cared for example there. 142,000 miles.....just about “run in” then 😀
