  1. Probably NLA but here’s the price of the head unit ! As I mentioned you will be very lucky to find a good used replacement, maybe Yahoo Japan but once you have the cost plus agent fees and shipping it won’t be cheap. I didn’t even repair my unit which was the Premium Sound System as I had no service manual or circuit diagram. Finding a repairer will also prove difficult I think. An easy way to test your speakers is to disconnect them one at a time then connect another known good speaker to the removed wires ( one off your home hi-fi will do) and then see if the sound is correct.
  2. Get yourself an automotive stethoscope, they are similar to medical ones but have a long extendable probe on them for a easier access ( obviously be aware of moving parts when probing). It should help you localise the cause by having a listen, if the noise gets louder you are getting closer to the cause.
  3. There is a strange quirk with UK road tax. Mine is a Japanese import and the road tax for these only has 2 bands below 1500cc and above 1501cc so I pay £295.00 for the year on a 2004 model year LS430 when for a UK car it’s emissions based at £360.00. I would assume therefore that if you imported an ISF or RC the same would apply effectively more than halving the amount.
  4. Have you not considered a Merekat cool bag? Every time you open it you get 2 free cinema tickets.
  5. One of you has actually got it correct but failed to explain part 2 of the question 😀
  6. IIRC the Lambda or stroichiometric value is the perfect air and fuel ratio for complete combustion of the fuel used which in theory should produce the best efficiency. Values vary dependent on the fuel used I.e. natural gas, propane and liquid fuels such as petrol but for cars is generally around 12:1 air/fuel ratio. Heavy reading link 😀 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air–fuel_ratio Twin turbos Dan, the way to go or an ISF engine.
  7. The rear AC pipes to the arm rest fridge are known to fail, repair is expensive due the the location and parts cost so many owners have had them capped off and accepted warm Diet Coke.
  8. Hi Chris could you confirm your model year as the last IS200 models were in 2005? I think a change of gearbox oil wouldn’t do any harm and also check the mechanical linkages for the gear changer ( WD40). Does the clutch seem OK I.e. not slipping and bite point good?
  9. The last of the LS400s 1998-2000 gen IV) had ARS fitted as standard but what is it and what does it do. No I haven’t missed an E off the end and it has nothing to do with the seats 😀 No prizes, just for fun and brain activity.
  10. That would explain the massive increase in the “standing charge” to finance the upgrade to provide domestic 3PH supplies for car chargers.
  11. No Arfur Dudley surely, his next door neighbour is called Terry.
  12. I didn’t think optional extras were offered for Lexus cars just everything was included as standard fitment. Does anyone know if the rear armrest refrigerator in the LS430 is frost free or do I need to scrape it out occasionally. 😀
  13. If my memory still serves me correctly at 230V that would be 20A the same maximum rating of the cable.
  14. When working in the area I used to order and then collect service items from Lexus Derby but it’s now cheaper to pay the postage from LPD than make a special journey of 30 odd miles. They also stopped inviting me to model launches and open days.....perhaps one oil filter and washer each year wasn’t enough to qualify even though I praised their customer service on here many times. So transmission in neutral these days re Derby.
  15. By all means post up the diagram and your service guy details, one of the most asked questions on the forums is “Anyone know of a good independent in “
  16. Good spot Malc, the car is effectively being sold with the fault declared. The previous picture showing the engine bay seems to confirm starting problems with one of the battery terminal covers sitting on top of the fuse box....jump leads anyone. I have a feeling the engine will be nicely warmed up before viewing commences ensuring a fine idle. The low washer sensor fault hasn’t been sorted either. A final clue is the number plate.....the car sux so don’t buy it 😀
  17. Yes it certainly is, also on fleabay, plenty of other “fine” offerings from the car lot in front of his neighbours’ houses. Strangely no mention of his usual sold as seen no warranty implied or given but still not disclosing as a motor dealer. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/304495593509?hash=item46e55a0825:g:RZMAAOSwcNtiYW69
  18. Hi Ian and welcome to the LOC. From the thread resurrection I see you have already been searching but to answer your last question yes you are. Unless you have a spare key already programmed to your car? Even if you buy another key it cannot be programmed to your car without the original master key. Lexus dealers should be able to provide a new key and programme it from the vehicle details but at a significant cost and you would need to have the car sent there. It may be worth calling a few local auto locksmiths as I seem to remember other members being supplied with a new fully programmed key for significantly less than the dealer route.
  19. I’ve used a damp Brillo pad on house windows before to remove paint splashes and the like without causing any damage but not on car glass. If your valeter couldn’t remove the marks it does make me wonder if the marks are embedded in the glass rather than surface marks. If you do try it certainly don’t go for the central area of the windscreen (MOT A and B areas) but as manufactures say in their disclaimers in an inconspicuous area, perhaps behind the rear view mirror mounting position and then check the result.
  20. As above, check the valve and check for punctures in the tyres. What condition are your wheels in? The usual Lexus quality normal results in flaking paint preceding corrosion of the alloy, if the paint has lifted around the rim beading air can escape under the paint even with sealant applied if it is not thoroughly cleaned up before application. A weekly pressure check may be the short term action.
  21. Hello and welcome to the LOC Teemu. That’s sounds perfectly normal, as long as they both go off once the engine starts all is good.
  22. That’s a great result there Ray especially finding a decent independent and making a fantastic saving on parts as well as expedited delivery. Also thank you for your comprehensive report after repair this always proves useful to other members in similar positions. Just the battery drain to sort then, could the same guy not look into this also? I’m also going to move this post into the LS section.
