  1. Hi and welcome to the LOC. You say you are "picking up the car from the dealer on Sunday" I take it this is not a Lexus dealer but any dealer should be sorting this problem out for you BEFORE you make the purchase. If you are saying they are selling the car to you with the fault I would tell them where to go and walk away from the sale. It also seems a little suspicious that the garage has seemingly "misplaced" the service history if so what proof do you have it ever had a service history? Any Lexus dealer should be able to provide a service printout on production of ownership documents IF the servicing was carried out by Lexus,if it was done independently there will be no records on their database. At this moment I would take with a pinch of salt what the Lexus dealer says is the problem with the car, guessing over the phone that the oxygen sensor is faulty is in my opinion very unprofessional, they at least need to examine the car and check any stored OBDII fault codes before coming to a diagnosis. It would appear that the dealer you contacted wasn't particularly interested in new business and decided to fob you off, suggests to me to find another Lexus dealer. The petrol filler cap causing this problem is one I haven't heard before. All in all the sale seems sus to me on the above grounds and I would think very carefully what you are doing, even if the dealer offers a warranty, which they have to by law, these are normally limited to the main components and may not be comprehensive. PS you seem to have already asked this question in another post and received advice from other members including myself,my advice remains the same,if in any doubt walk away. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=70912
  2. Hi, 10 ohms sounds a little low at normal operating temperatures, you could always measure the output voltage when cold and monitor it as the engine reaches normal operating temperature to see if it alters correctly. I have posted a link to typical expected measurements at various engine coolant temperatures but this is not model specific just a guide. http://www.freeautomechanic.com/ect3.gif You could try putting the sensor into some freshly boiled water then check the resistance as a comparison. There could of cause be another reason for the high reading in that your engine is actually overheatin,g given the rising and falling of the gauge this could indicate an air lock in the cooling system giving flow problems
  3. Hi Mike, There seems to be some debate on whether to clean them or not but it is suggested that you just spray some carb cleaner in but don't use a brush or anything just allow to dry naturally. They are a very sensitive device so take care, why are you thinking of cleaning it?
  4. Eventually got mine with Sky,after A-Plan let me completely down with a renewal, for £325.00 £250 XS 10 years NCB (protected) and included the legal help. There were a few errors on the proposal which I have corrected and returned also car is showing at the moment as an LS400 when it is a Toyota import ( there is no model listed on the log book) so I sent a copy of the V5C vehicle details pages to ensure there is no confusion.
  5. Hello and welcome to the LOC sorry to hear your 1st post is problems with your LS400 I think we have had these symptoms before,if you check the engine bay fuse box you will probably find the 120A fuse blown, happens if you connect the battery the wrong way around or sometimes when connecting correctly. No easy way to replace the fuse it bolts in from underneath so don't try pulling it out!. Make sure the battery is disconnected before replacing it!
  6. Walk away that's probably the reason it is being sold, faults and all or ring Lexus and get a repair estimate then deduct that from the asking price, you'll probably get the car for free then!
  7. Everything you need to know is here for the 1990 to Oct 1994 model http://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls400/336540-diy-battery-replacement-in-lexus-key.html Don't forget to check the switch under the driver's dash to make sure the remote is switched on!
  8. Hi, Below is the tutorial for the earlier LS400 so yours should be similar, the tutorial shows replacing the bulb with an LED but of course you can simply replace the bulb with a bulb of the same type. http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/lighting/ignition.html
  9. Hello, welcome to the LOC and congratulations on your new purchase. I think the majority of members on here own IS200s or variants of so there should be plenty of help coming along soon. I'm not familiar with the IS sound system but seem to remember there have been problems with them with various error codes coming up for the CD changer, getting them repaired is not easy as no-one seems to do them but a lot of owners have replaced the existing system with after market setups which works out cheaper than trying to sort the original. Which ever way you decide to go it will need yet more help from your bank account lol. If the IS uses the Pioneer system with the cartridge for the discs the discs normally go into the cartridge with the playing side facing up unlike conventional system where it is label side up.
  10. Hello and welcome to the LOC, We had some meetings in Doncaster at the VUE cinema site.
  11. There have been problems with the courtesy light door switches causing random faults, easy to remove, check and clean them before going in deeper.
  12. Hi and welcome, The most important thing to have with any Lexus is a full service history, they are extremely reliable IF looked after properly, another thing to look for is how many previous owners it has had if there have been a lot of changes it could indicate owners getting rid rather than spending money getting it sorted. Find out how long the present owner has had the car and ask why they are selling it. Remember parts are not cheap for these cars ( but reasonable I think personally even from dealers) and when a car reaches its 3rd or 4th owner the residual value means they aren't worth spending a lot on a say a major suspension rebuild or they have been fitted with pattern parts. Generally make sure the cam belt has been done I think it is every 60,000 miles on the older model and 90,000 on the later ones and have a good test drive listening for suspension knocks. Check carefully for any repaired accident damage these cars are precision built and any excessive panel gaps should not be there. There are plenty out there so you can afford to be picky if there is any doubt walk away. If you post the links for those that you are looking into we will always give you feedback. Good luck with your search and keep us updated
  13. The power mirrors were fitted to the JDM models, mine is a 1994 and has them. The exploded parts diagram doesn't help as it just shows the mirror as a complete unit so there are no internal parts to compare,I know the mirror casing was changed on the later models but there would probably be no need to alter the internals. The only way to find out is get the 2 side by side,if the spare mirror is a reasonable price it may be worth buying just to see. If it is the same you have saved yourself some money,if it's different there's always ebay for reselling it.
  14. I finally got a cover note from Sky today after having to chase it,some errors on the proposal which have been amended and the cover note shows the car as a Lexus but I was told the insurers would be informed it was an import model Toyota and to make sure it was clear I made a written note on the proposal form and sent a copy of the vehicle details from the logbook. Also checked on the MID and the car is showing up as insured so OK there then. Just got to save up now for some petrol! lol As for A-Plan no one called me back and still haven't despite promises from Phil Snow, had it been up to them I would by now have not been covered, the consequences of which could be financial ruin if involved in an accident and the possibility of having the car crushed!!!
  15. Good result Mike, I'm wasting my life repairing TVs and all the other domestic electronic rubbish produced these days!!! lol
  16. I have replaced the original head unit and boot CD changer for a single DIN JVC CD/Radio using the original speakers and fitting a separate sub amp where the old changer was located ( only did this because the effects system in the amp failed) HID hi/low kit Smoked indicator lenses. Tinted rear clusters. LED sidelights, puddle lights and number plate lights. New Mitsubishi EVO 9 wheels. Clear headlight protection covers. Eaton M90 Supercharger system. OK I made the last one up!!!!!
  17. Hi Mike you're welcome, If you disconnect the LPG system it should default to running on petrol only but dependent on how the switch over is done the car may not start at all on petrol. Just another thought with the strong smell of petrol it could be the car is running on both LPG and petrol at the same time i.e. both sets of injectors are active together which would cause serious running problems due to over fueling. LPG fitting centres should be able to check the system and perform a diagnostic check.
  18. There seems to be some software glitches with the iphones and ipads it may be worth contacting Apple to see what they have to say, having said that the staff at my local Apple dealer seem a little aloof even when I am spending thousands on new stuff for my company, trying to get a "freebie" is like getting blood out of a stone!
  19. Hi, I take it you have no fault codes logged? You need to determine as others have said if the cause is fuel or ignition related. If you have a fuel pressure gauge ( either borrow one or buy a cheap one) you could measure the fuel pressure when the fault is present and either confirm or eliminate this as the cause. If the fuel pressure is OK then you are looking at an ignition related fault and you need to establish whether a spark is present at the plugs when the fault occurs. A common cause of no spark these days is an intermittent crank position sensor and they become temperature sensitive and can fail when warm although normally if the sensor fails to provide the correct signal when the engine is running the car will go into limp home mode with a reduced rev range/performance and the engine management light would come on.
  20. Hello Mike, From what I understand the LPG system has an "Injector Emulator" which basically tricks the petrol fuel injection system into thinking it is working as normal when in fact the engine is running on LPG. Seeing as the car runs fine on LPG this would suggest the ignition system is all OK (coils, plugs, leads) or it would also misfire on gas as well. It may be worth getting the LPG system checked out or have a look yourself for wiring damage to the LPG system.
  21. Hi and welcome to the LOC. I use Safari on my MacBook and have never had a problem, having said that you are probably running a completely OS to me ( I have Leopard 10.5.8) but if the other browser you have seems OK you seem to be sorted. Anyway back to business which Lexus model are you thinking of buying?
  22. Hello Sean welcome to the LOC and congratulations on buying an LS400. There are quite a few alternatives when it comes to wheel choices the main considerations are the offset which affects the position of the wheel in the arches. I have linked a good guide below showing the original offsets and you can also look for other vehicles which have the same or similar offsets and the correct 5 stud 114.3 stud patterns. It also depends on whether you are looking at new wheels, refurbished or secondhand as there are many choices,Ebay is normally a good source. You could also consider having your own wheels refurbished. The dash problem as you are aware is common but easily repaired if you have the skill to repair yourself, there are even some tutorials to help. http://www.carlsalter.com/wheel_fitments.html

  24. Convicted offenders now have to pay an additional amount to the "victims of crime" fund. It won't be long before anyone convicted of a motoring offence will have to pay into the "victims of potholes"fund
