  1. I think access to spare parts is the fly in the ointment, over the last few years more and more parts are NLA. Take springs for example now very hard to source OEM. OK there are always aftermarket suppliers of various quality but would this detract from the value when a buyer discovers XYZ autospares UCAs on the car? In the UK rust is another factor despite taking action to prevent it, rear arches spring to mind.
  2. I managed to fit one to my 1994 Celsior, again not easy but I did manage to do it including the remote boot release. Another member with a 1994 UK spec model also bought one but the wiring was completely different even tracing back to the door switches so after several hours it was a no fit. It is still in my garage, not mine so stays there. The trunk release doesn’t need a relay as there is a factory one. The remote keys were a bit flimsy with the rubber key ring bit splitting soon after purchase.

  6. As I mentioned previously chrome wheels will not look good for long here in the UK as I know from experience. Mine were totally bling and I received some nice comments but 2 years later they looked bad with no one willing to refurbish them.
  7. Given what a set of DHP wheels in decent condition are fetching these days you’ll probably recover the cost of the replacements and refurbishment if you sell them. 😀
  8. AFAIK the only circuit diagrams for pre 2006 cars are in Japanese as they were all Toyota badged until then in the JDM. I have a 2004 Celsior and due to the above have left the original Japanese sat nav and audio system in due to additional items like ETC being fitted in them. My old 1994 Celsior had to be hardwired when I replaced the stereo as there were no diagrams available so I basically had to trace every wire. You’re going to need a good contact in Japan and a translator.
  9. Hello Harry and welcome to the LOC. I also have a 2004 Japanese imported LS430. The speedometer can be replaced with a UK specification one but the mileage will need correcting from KMs to miles. The Sat Nav is another matter as the language is hard coded into the system meaning there is no option to change it from a menu. The only option is a replacement UK spec system if you can find one although even this is not plug and play due to the Japanese Toll road system or ETC. Mine has a UK spec cluster fitted but given the hassle the Sat Nav is still Japanese along with the announcements.
  10. The early models up to 1994 were all 3 speed plus overdrive so effectively 4 speed transmissions using the Aisin A340E. Looks to be a 92-94 model given the digital trip display. Also appears to be a UK model having the external radio aerial and 2 piece headlights.

  12. I’m struggling to comprehend that a 2 litre lemonade bottle filled with petrol would now cost £4.00! That amount wouldn’t even fill my lawnmower! Perhaps as we appear to be heading back to the 1970s with super inflation, strikes,possible power outages and a new album from Slade it will drop back to 68p a gallon. 😀
  13. Yep. I like your methodology, lots of small mods done fairly cheaply in the main and not taking weeks to fit. Fortunately my Celsior seems to have most of them factory fitted.
  14. The rears come on individually with the rear doors opened, the fronts have no effect on the rears. You can also switch them on manually.
  15. Hello Gene and welcome to the LOC. Which model Lexus do you have? I have in the past successfully repaired the door lock actuators by replacing the motor inside them. Most of the time is spent getting the assembly out of the door and putting it back, motor replacement took around 30 minutes.

  17. IThe “best” would be from Lexus but at a price. There are the usual suspects on eBay with Chinese copies which may last a few years. Also consider a local locksmith who will either have the key in stock or order one for you, they would cut the key ( if allowed) and transplant the electronics.   18. Did my brake service on Monday, there are actually 2 shims per pad so I fit them with just a light coating of copper grease between them after cleaning all the old stuff off. The shim kits from Lexus are ridiculously priced for a few bits of shaped metal plate. If you can wait Amayama have them for around half of Lexus UK prices although from Japan I would expect executive jet delivery at that price for shipping!

  21. It sounds like the mirror sense position switches are playing up . To avoid removing the glass try spraying some WD40 in behind the mirror glass using the extension nozzle pipe then use the position control to work the mirror up and down a few times.

If these parts are not available as OEM and you fit aftermarket units ( if available) you could run into problems with MOT type approval requirements and you would also need to declare the modifications to your insurer who may decline cover with non approved parts. If you still want to proceed check out these guys close to you.
  23. Just clean the shims fitted to the old pads,thinly copper grease them and refit to the new pads. Clean up the stainless steel pad retaining springs and the retaining pin. Don’t forget the retaining pin R clips.
