  1. My 2004 LS430 a Japanese import was converted from KM to miles before purchase however the UK spec cluster was also mileage corrected. Not sure if the previous owner still has the old cluster but will ask.
  2. Hi Robynn and welcome to the LOC. This video should help, note as mentioned by Peter the yellow plug is for the seat airbag so follow his guidance to avoid it maybe going off unexpectedly. It would also appear the seat has to come out from the rear door. Once you have it out I would remove any fluff around the sliding rails then give it a spray with WD 40 which tends to soften any hardened grease. If you purchased the car from a dealer they should sort this for you without charge. The video is for a LHD car but the method is the same.
  3. Hi Tiago and welcome to the LOC. Air suspension tends to give little warning of imminent failure, maybe dropping on one side overnight is the first time you know there may be a problem. Starting the car will generally pump the suspension back up to normal height and this could continue for months in this state but eventually the air strut will fail. Any suspension issues however tend not to leave you completely stranded the car will remain drive able with care and get you home. Parts are now becoming obsolete from Toyota and remain expensive ( over £1000.00 typically for a new air strut if still available) and if one does fail others may follow. Conversion to coil springs is a popular option with kits costing around £1200 to £1500 but you will of course loose that air suspension magic carpet ride quality. Air suspension was generally only fitted on Japanese market models.
  4. Perhaps get your mechanic to connect an oil pressure gauge to check the reading?
  5. Personally I think that’s pretty normal, the engine sounds smooth on idle with no knocking on cranking. Given it has now been like that since your previous post 8 months ago without causing any problems I wouldn’t worry unduly. Hengst is not a filter brand I’m familiar with here in the UK so cannot comment on the quality or construction as I tend to use OEM Toyota as suggested by Colin.
  6. If there is nothing mentioned in the handbook regarding clock settings and function I would ask Lexus to investigate at the next service. Perhaps a short video of the fault to prevent “We can’t find anything wrong”
  7. It sounds aux belt related, try removing the belt then start the engine and see if the noise has gone. If it has check all the components on the belt run (alternator pulley, idler pulley, tensioner etc).

  10. Hi Ed and welcome to the LOC. If you mean the ABS computer it is located in the engine bay driver’s side, so looking from the front of the car top left. It should just be a case of unbolting from the bracket and disconnecting the electrical plugs. Can I ask how you came to diagnose it as faulty and what symptoms you’re having?
  11. I have a new set, send me a PM, pay the postage and they’re yours. Yes remove the pulley and use a suitable sized socket that fits completely over the outer ring to drift them out and new one in. I just put the pulley between 2 bits of wood.

  13. Hi Tom and welcome to the LOC. Having looked through all your symptoms I would agree with other members to firstly replace the battery if you are unsure as to its age and condition. Make sure the replacement battery has the terminals on the correct side and same position. There is a known problem with the LS400 starter motor not activating just clicking but it’s a major project to replace it being located under the intake between the valley. As regards the immobiliser light not going off you need to turn the key to ignition position and leave it there for around 7 minutes then remove the key, lock then unlock the car then it should start. The VSC light should go off once the car has been driven a few miles. You will probably also find the auto window feature no longer works ( one touch up/down function) this may therefore need resetting. Just ask if you need the procedure 😀

Hi Peter and welcome to the LOC. ”I don’t know much about cars” seems to be an understatement given your knowledge of diagnostics and live data 😀 From what I remember from manifold pressures the wider throttle opening will reduce the air pressure, the Idle Air Control Valve controls the idle speed and bypasses the Throttle Body
  19. According to the database there is only one windscreen type so hopefully it can’t go wrong. Whether there are any in the UK however is a concern.
  20. Having looked at the parts diagrams for both the 1998 Lexus LS400 and the Japanese equivalent model Toyota Celsior I think you may have the latter. The Japanese version does not have the relays missing in yours or the condenser fan, so it would seem you either have a converted Celsior ( Fitted with Lexus badges etc) or the complete front end has been replaced with a Celsior section. Does the vehicle have a complete UK MOT history? Also ask Lexus if they could provide any service history information (normally a free print off when proof of ownership established). Also is the cooling fan belt driven or hydraulic? Take a look under the passenger footwell left side for a black plastic tube.

  23. Hi Stefan and welcome to the LOC. You could try blowing some warm air around the facia and buttons which may dry out the internals but obviously not too much heat to start melting things. I also understand there is a reset procedure for the multimedia system by pressing and holding the on/off button? As for your son I would get him with the hose pipe 😀
