The ES turning circle is quoted as being 11.8m compared to my LS430 at 10.4m. Both are a similar length but the LS is RWD as opposed to the ES being FWD/AWD. Parking spaces are generally too narrow and too short so require as James mentions careful consideration.

Piece of wood, cut down broom handle, poly pipe, one end on the pedal the other on the front of the seat squab with a cloth wrapped around it. Move seat forward to depress pedal. -
Common causes appear to be fuel cap seal failed, exhaust leak, O2 sensors and the dreaded valve under the intake manifold. As suggested by Bill the codes need reading with Toyota Techstream to be more accurate. If you have a windows laptop you can buy the USB adaptor for around £50.00 which is less than one scan at a dealer.

Arrr the “We don’t have the tools” excuse, locking the cams is helpful but not an essentially critical requirement, so long as the timing marks are fully aligned when fitting the new belt. Obviously you wouldn’t expect them to order the “Toyota Special Camshaft Locking Tool x2” at £300.00 plus VAT but even a couple of fleabay universal locking tools would be fine for a job every 10 years. You don’t realise the remoteness of Wick until you get to Edinburgh and the sat nav still says 250 miles to go up the mainly single lane A9 and you hope there are no wind turbines enroute. -

There are no wear sensors on the parking brake shoes ( they use a drum within the disc for the parking brake), chances are the pads are worn out destroying the wear sensor or the sensor wires are broken. Also check the brake fluid level as this flags a warning light if low. My other half has always fancied a visit to Scotland but 2 days with me stuck under a bonnet would not be her idea of a break plus it now takes me a week to recover from a DIY oil and filter change! -
There is a rubber sealing gasket on both boot lid light clusters ( circled in red) from your description they have either failed or are missing. Be grateful for that warranty!

If the RRP is £64.44 surely it would be cheaper to order and collect from your local dealer than have a £10.00 odd discount but then pay £30.00 for delivery? -

Hi Ian, sorry to read about the health issues. Considering the UK is the only RHD market within Europe (I think) I can’t see it being snapped up by a desperate French or Italian buyer. -

That’s not good, it makes you wonder what else they “missed” like engine oil if they can’t spot obvious issues and rectify them before resale. I would have been at the point of requesting my travel costs and walking away. I can understand why you hid the Yaris behind the fence when it should have been a GS450h 😀

Apparently not Malc, the rear screen for early LS400 models is completely obsolete so if some scumbag put that thorough the car is basically written off as you cannot replace it. Amayama stock for the later models tends to show NLA or after 2 weeks from ordering it gets cancelled. There may be a few in stock at fitting outfits long forgotten and nicely gathering dust but no longer on the database so computer says no. I understand there are companies which will custom make you one but the price would probably exceed the value of the car! If anyone ever needs a door window for the 96-97 models I have a complete set.

I’m not too concerned given they will probably catch fire before leaving the ground. -
RIP Lexus LS430 - you will be ever missed
steve2006 replied to halpulaar's topic in Brakes & Suspension
Just the single tailpipe is the giveaway something is amiss with the exhaust, unfortunately being mild steel they do rot and with replacements only available from Lexus bodge ups will happen. The air suspension can be converted to springs for around £1500.00 for the kit. Under slung fuel tanks exposed to the elements were another retrograde step compared to the LS400 boot mounted position along with the stainless steel exhaust. I assume from the sales ad you’ve had it over six months so no dealer come back? -

I think in the UK tyres should be rated for pothole damage resistance, noise levels when going in and out of them and road hump performance to give a true level of service life, comfort and noise levels. 😀 -

Seems a bit strange that the guy couldn’t “find any voltage going to the wire” Bit too much of a coincidence that before the work was carried out all was well electrically/electronically but since then a wire has broken causing a fault don’t you think? There are basically three types of wire, supply voltage (12/5 volts)ground and signal the latter 2 having no discernible voltage present one being at ground so 0 volts and the other carrying either a specific waveform signal only viewable on an oscilloscope or a variable voltage. If you want to see great examples of proper vehicle fault diagnosis take a look at “Diagnose Dan” on YouTube.

As a moderator I must admit that until now I wasn’t aware of this but I’m happy to follow up. Please feel free to PM me to discuss further. Steve.

Surely under UK Consumer Rights Laws it could be considered that the vehicle is not fit for purpose and not lasting a reasonable period of time before being stolen often never to be seen again.
