  1. Hi Richard and welcome to the LOC. Either make one with some 6mm threaded rod and 2 swivel joints, the link below is for the LS400 but just measure the rod length on yours. Parts available from RS Components Ltd. https://www.evansweb.info/2009/11/23/ls400-ride-height-sensor-repair/ Or contact SGS Engineering in Derby who will supply a ready made one for around £50.00. Or buy one on fleabay for around £20.00 https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1313&_nkw=lexus+headlight+levelling+rod&_sacat=0 Or pay Lexus £500.00 plus fitting for a complete new sensor assembly. If you are still stuck I can make you one but not until mid June as on holiday presently.
  2. They are not a routine service item like oil and filters and you will certain know when they fail either at MOT time or you start to get knocking on the front suspension. Potholes play a large part in their demise so avoid as much as possible. I’ve never heard of one failing and resulting in immediate catastrophic failure like the hub detaching as the warning signs mentioned above come first. Keep an eye on the dust covers for holes or splits and if you really want to confirm serviceability a pry bar between the lower arm and hub will show any play when lifted up. The old adage “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it” comes in here, same applies to UCAs and other suspension bushes.
  3. Given that only 5 of the codes are current and 2 related to battery I would agree with Herbs regarding the condition of the 12V auxiliary battery. Given that the aux battery is charged from the hybrid system excessive charge current demand and the fact the battery has a temperature sensor if the battery gets too hot during charging it could lead to a shut down situation. If not you need “Diagnose Dan” on YouTube I nearly forgot welcome to the LOC.Robert 😀
  4. RGood point Nicolas, I’m presently in Rhodes, Greece and can speak enough Greek to hold a conversation. The look on the locals’ faces when they see an obvious tourist and then hear their own language is priceless. They always ask where I am from completely surprised that a lazy Englishman had made the effort to learn their language. Asking for a table in a busy restaurant in Greek almost always guarantees a nice table, more food and much better service after they have overcome the initial shock 😀

    MOT

That was probably because rear wipers are not part of the MOT inspection it only applies to “Windscreen wipers”. Rear window view is also not part of the test only windshield and side windows require clear vision. The tester’s manual is a little ambiguous in that the internal mirror must show a view to the rear of the vehicle so if you can see the rear seats that’s a pass the fact that you cannot see out of a mud covered rear window due to a defective rear wiper/washer doesn’t appear to matter.
  6. Plenty in Dubai....they use them as taxis there 😀

    MOT

The same way as all family owned companies when the number crunchers take over!
  8. The topic title had me slightly worried in that I initially had visions of the car sat on the hard shoulder burning away merrily with nothing daring to pass and a 10 mile tailback on the opposite carriageway after 2 accidents involving rubbernecks. Having now read the full topic my heartbeat and BP have now returned to normal 😀 No picture MNMJ?

    MOT

Is it just a complete coincidence that since the death of Mr. Toyoda the Toyota Chairman there have been so many changes within the company, if Mr. Toyoda had said all servicing is 100 Yen those around him would have probably just bowed deeply and accepted it. Since then the new management have changed the servicing system including the removal of discounted set cost servicing for older models. Add in the head in the sand attitude to can bus thefts. Just where is this once league topping global company going?
  10. Only after 12.00 Malc so only 20 minutes to go now.😀 Logged on again so speed up.
  11. Usual culprits are the rear cables (one to each axle) which tend to seize however there are various mechanisms like the quadrant and its return spring that can also seize. If you detach the single cable from the pedal (R clip and pin as circled) see if the pedal then returns fully up by just pulling the release lever. If all is now good here check the quadrant for free movement, the return spring is present then move onto the cables to the rear drums. If it is seized cables replacement is the best option as lubrication may only provide a temporary fix if any. I would normally attach pictures but the internet speed here in Rhodes is soooo slow.
  12. Volkswagen and emissions.....don’t go there John 😀
  13. Hello and welcome to the LOC. Given the notoriety of the Lexus diesel engines it could be a multitude of reasons but to begin with I would be looking first at the EGR valve which is prone to sticking due to carbon build up ( also given that his device only becomes operational once the engine has fully warmed up matching your symptoms). There are plenty of DIY tutorials related to removing and cleaning the valve although new replacements are reasonably priced. Another problem is the 5th injector involved in DPF regeneration which if faulty leads to over fuelling and white smoke.
  14. Hello David and welcome to the LOC. Obvious question I know but since the car came out of winter storage have you checked the tyre pressures? As for the camera if it was replaced previously by Lexus I would challenge the dealer on their decision and reason not to replace it under warranty.
  15. As I now own Phil’s Celsior and was aware it did not meet the required standards even though an equivalent UK specification model did I contacted the DVLA. Several weeks later and despite explaining it was a JDM import they requested a letter from the manufacturer confirming it met Euro standards. Toyota UK obviously wouldn’t be able to do this and contacting Toyota in Japan is more or less impossible. Regarding the vehicle tax being cheaper this is because the taxation class is based on engine size ( up to 1500cc or above 1501cc) and not emissions based as is the case with UK cars.
  16. Not seen one but basically remove the retaining clip (orange box) then slide out the sensor. They are very expensive from Lexus but plenty of 3rd party options available on the usual sites.
  17. Hi David and welcome to the LOC. Not sure if this applies to your model but most have some adjustment to the tension by way of changing which slot the bars ends go into ( choice of 3 positions)
  18. The last time I left the Celsior in the garage for 3 weeks during a holiday I came back to a flat battery, called the AA out to be told it was shot and I needed a new one. They take details of the battery I would assume because if you call them again for the same problem having not replaced the battery they may refuse service or charge you. I left it a few weeks after giving the battery a full charge but when cleaning the car a couple of days ago it only just started afterwards ( doors open so interior lights on) so I ordered a new one. Battery arrived the next day and left in porch but spot the obvious mistake…on opening the packaging the matting material was soaked presumably with electrolyte from the vent. Cannot check levels or top up as a sealed for life battery. Now awaiting a response from the vendor and thanks DHL.
  19. If you are just moving it a few yards say out of the garage and back that’s fine, years ago you could tow conventional automatics for short distances below a certain speed but with the advent of CVT not nowadays. I think the main reason why they need a suspended tow is because if the engine is not running the transmission fluid pump is also not running which could lead to overheating and transmission failure.
  20. Hee hee I know that situation, this week the Karcher sprang a leak so google problem, watch Youtube video, dismantle and order part, left in pieces. Petrol strimmer won’t start, no fuel reaching primer bulb, dismantle to discover fractured fuel line. Order replacement fuel line, left in pieces. 1982 Suzuki GSX 250 arrived complete and running now in various boxes. Thankfully I drive a Lexus.
  21. I just purchased a hog ring kit with the crimp pliers and rings when I did mine from fleabay. Take plenty of pictures when disassembling regarding fastening positions etc, there are also some tapes on the covers which require tensioning.
  22. Helpful hint coming… When bleeding the power steering instead of jacking the wheels off the ground simply place an old glossy magazine in front of each wheel and then drive onto them. As you turn the steering the magazines make it easy with no tyre scrubbing.
  23. Hi Marcin and welcome to the LOC. It looks like the suspension height sensor connecting joint, fairly common failure as the aluminium corrodes and they snap. You can make them from a piece of threaded rod and a couple of swivel joints or buy the complete unit for around £100.00 on eBay.
